This is how you build a kitchen island. It's not really a DIY project if you want to be quick, but it's totally something you could do by yourself. Find your cabinets, build your frame, and set your countertop on.

Side note: You didn’t build or have an island. If the counter connects to a wall or other countertop, it’s a peninsula. An island is not connected in any way to anything else.
