    Thank you very much for this particular video. I'm about to move to a new construction house where the builder or construction company has wired the home with CAT5e, and this device will tell me if the connections are working when I do my first walkthrough of the home which will be some time in early August. By the way, Klein Tools VDV501-851 Cable Tester Kit with Scout Pro 3 link shows an amazon "starter kit" for about $78 USD right now, but the Klein Tools VDV501-852 with locator remotes, PoE cost $185 USD, which is more than what I'm willing to pay for such a tester.

    • @UltimateTechHub
      @UltimateTechHub  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The starter kit is really good. You don't need the PoE tester that's kind of overkill and too pricey. Thanks for watching and keep me posted if you have any issues.

      @@UltimateTechHub I finally bought the VDV501-851 for $72 USD + tax, and it should arrive today from Amazon via UPS. Again thank you for your video.

    you are awesome too. in my opinion my 10 dollar tester works great but yes, a tester of some sorts is a huge necessity for networking. when i first started running my network i screwed up in crimping. i only got frustrated wondering why it was not working until i got my tester. then i knew what i was doing wrong and fixed myself. now i have a great network. a 10 dollar tester is really all you need to make a good network. yours is nice but overkill for a tiny home network.

      I agree but I got mine when I was in college doing physical networking and testing. I love my tester and it's helped when I screwed up some rj45 terminations. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it!

    What is the point of Bandwidth MHz? Is the Speed or Bandwidth more important?

    • @UltimateTechHub
      @UltimateTechHub  ปีที่แล้ว

      Bandwidth is how much data can be downloaded or uploaded at one time. It's like a highway. The larger the highway the more cars can travel at the same time. The larger the Bandwidth the more data can travel on the cable at the same time. Your speed is the max speed that data can travel. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

    I am currently having issues with TV no line connection after 5 years usage inside of Church. I bought a Klein tool tester. Can I use the remote on the connector at the opposite end approximately 30 feet to TV receiver connector. Thanks for your video demonstrating how to hook up tester with remote, Klein instructions did not show this condition.

    QUESTION: do you know of any testers that can test the cable with one end as a connector and the other end as a wall jack?
    Maybe I’m not searching for it right but I can’t seem to find one.
    Thanks in advance!

    I have a basic continuity tester for my own use. However, in my work, I have used more sophisticated testers, including for certifying installations. Word of advice, based on experience, be careful around PoE. Some testers don't like it.

    • @James_Knott
      @James_Knott ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cam5816 Which situation? PoE? Power over Ethernet is commonly used for things like access points, cameras, VoIP phones, etc.. This puts power on the Ethernet cable for powering the device and that power can be harmful to cable testers.

      Not completely relevant question but I ran into a issue where I used power sources 5 port Ethernet hub and since I plugged into the wall jack, all my Ethernet wall jack in the house aren’t working anymore. Seems like the whole network is damaged somewhere. Any idea how I can test and figure out what caused it?

    • @James_Knott
      @James_Knott ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rishisood5685 Well, it could be the switch is damaged, as it's hard to damage anything else. All you can to is test the switch one port at a time. You just have to test and see what works or not.

    How does the device do with dreaded temperamental connections? I have a summerhouse, with a 30m or so cat5e cable running to my house. I have 99.9% uptime, I lose network connection for at most 2 minutes a day... Not a big deal but annoys me. If the network connection is good at the time of testing, will this device tell me all is ok with the cable?
    Thanks

    • @UltimateTechHub
      @UltimateTechHub  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The device tells you that the connections are correct with no faults. If you have an occasional connection drop its from your router or switch or modem. The cat5e wires rarely fail randomly and I've never seen it happen with a cable that passed the network cables tester.

    • @jamesatkins4830
      @jamesatkins4830 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UltimateTechHub thank you for the quick reply. This actually goes with my initial suspicion for what causes the dropouts, as I used an old router in the summerhouse effectively as a switch and for WiFi, when I reset that router I had no dropouts for several days which made me think it was the old router. I've recently changed it for a gigabit switch but the problem is still there.

    What tester would be good to test the actual speed of the cable?

    Reality check, with few exceptions particularly longer distances from a 20,000 SqFt house or to out buildings or speed requirements >1,250 MB/s fiber is nuts in a house. Instead in most homes including most mansions CAT-6 should suffice. CAT-6A is a pain to manage and terminate. CAT-6 can run 180', so taking 15' per ceiling drop that leaves 150' runs (150*150=22,500 SqFt).
    Personally I have a 2.5GbE/10GbE clean home running vanilla CAT-6 RJ45. 10GbE to PC/NAS/NVR and 2.5GbE to everything else (TVs, APs, etc).

    The only way this tester is any good is if there is a totally cut wire or shorted wire
    Bottom line it’s garbage
