Man that sounds so great! I was there,about 14 years old ,but I was at a strip almost every week with my Dad and his brother! My first race was at San Fernando when my Dad was racing his 57 Chevy,that my Mom drove into the fireplace,and,they are still married! I love old drag racing! I have not even been to a NHRA race since 2004!
Saw that car run many times back in the day. Snake for a stretch had the most badass F/C on the planet. This was a transitional era as big money was on the leading edge of taking root in the sport that would change it forever. Gone are the days of well over 100 F/C's to an era now that it can get dicey for just a full field at an NHRA race. If given a choice of sub 4 sec, 300 plus mph runs or 6 sec flat at 230 mph, I'll take the latter and more F/C's without even batting an eye. I don't need a circus act in the pits between rounds, give me a crew of a couple, adjust the clutch and minimal maintenance, refuel and head back to the staging lanes for another pass.
