  • A fairly simple and straight forward fix the problem of the valves sticking inside the control unit causing hot air to pump out into the cabin even when the temp is set on low.

    Hi Rod, I know I'm late to the party but thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to post this video. I have a high mileage A6 which developed this very problem some while ago. It was intermittent so I didn't bother about it too much. Would normally happen on the hottest of days! By turning the heater up full then down again the problem cleared itself. I have followed your instructions and cleaned out the valves, so far all is well. In answer to an earlier comment the rubber seals sit underneath the two coils. They are a bit like the sort of rubber seals found in household stop cocks etc. Keep up the good work.

    Your video helped me so much without I don't think I would have attempted this fix...thank you so much! Also for anyone else who tries this really make sure you are careful with those screws even with a magnetic bit one fell and it took me almost an hour just to get it back out...so be careful!

    Rod that was so informative, thank you... what a save!!! It's true, every garage will say the same, a big job requiring taking the car to a thousand pieces followed by a million pound receipt in labour and parts. But this is brilliant. And thank you Rod. And thank god for youtube!

    I followed your video to the letter. Having a magnet handy as I extracted and replaced the torx screws was a brilliant idea as I am the biggest klutz in town and would have surely dropped them. That said, this was an incredibly easy repair. For $9US, the cost of a magnet and 2 cans of carburetor cleaner my ac blows cold again. I had taken it to 3 different shops, who each ran diagnosis. Three different prescriptions, none of which was either cleaning or replacing this control unit, for repair. All in excess of $1,000US. Thanks for posting.

    Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to do this. I'm
    sincerely grateful. Be careful when
    screwing the 6 little screws back in to hold the metal lids on the
    valves. They are self-tappers screwing into plastic, very easily cross
    threaded. I snapped one with only very moderate force using a
    screwdriver style Torx10. (Had to drill and tap a new hole as I couldn't
    get it out). The magnet idea is a life saver.

      Glad you were able to fix your A.C. My issue is that the ECON light on my 2006 a4 Quattro is constantly on, and the fans blow, at best, warm air, or hot if I turn up the temp. Did you have the same issue? From looking around I'm hoping it's something easy like this. I'd appreciate any input!

    hi thanks for this video, I do that this morning, no result :( Icy cold on the passenger side, less cold on the left dashboard, warm on the left of the steering wheel, and warm on the right of the steering wheel....
    Isn’t it a breakdown panel in the console that makes you sweat? Or is the module dead ...

    A very Helpful video,, i think i got the same problem but in my 05 A6 3.2 FSI i m getting more hot air in the side vent as compared to the center vent....Do you cleaned under the Magnetic coil around the Valves(cylindrical housing) shown in video at 4:30 .

    • @rodnette3
      @rodnette3  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaspreet Chahal I cleaned the valves and carefully cleaned the valve seats but you have to be really careful not to use anything abrasive that will take part of the metal off as it will fall straight into the cooling system. It will only let minimum water through anyway unless it is severely built up, so it wont be an issue. It is only when the valves are stuck wide open and you have full flow that you have the issue. I just cleaned the valves for the heck of it whilst I had them out. Hope this helps.

    Hello. I guess I am experiencing the same problem with my 2005 year A8.
    AC is turned on to LOW temperature, sometimes it works but sometimes it flows hotair instead of cold air. As you know A8 has dual zone climat control and this happens sometimes to the passanger side and sometimes to the drivers side. Sometimes both sides flows hot air.
    Is this the same problem that you had?

    • @rodnette3
      @rodnette3  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is the exact same problem and although I don't know the A8 setup I would imagine it is very similar if not exactly the same.

    • @rodnette3
      @rodnette3  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is entirely possible. The heating system is dependent on coolant flow through the cabin heat exchange unit. The valve system controls this flow

      Per Bjerg If the heating is ok and the cooling isn't it is more than likely need a regas on the AC. This fix will NOT help that problem. You will need to take it to an Airconditioning repairer.

      When abroad I had a mechanic looking at it and the tube going into the cabin it is cold. The mechanic told me he had to remove the whole dashboard at middle console to repair it. His english just wasn't good enough to explain what is wrong.
      I'm just looking for an explantation on what really is wrong with the AC and hopfully an easier fix.

    Hi. I have A8 2003 4.2. My problem is a bit opposite, Audi doesn´t heat into the cabin the warm air(half-warm yes, but not warm). I have to set HI temperature to be "normal" temperature.
    Could it be this?Should I try to clean the valves like at A6?
    Thank You

    • @rodnette3
      @rodnette3  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Veroslav Lenc It could be a similar problem in reverse. You could try this and see if it makes it better. The valving just controls the flow of the water from the radiator through the heater so the valves could be stuck in the shut position. The other thing to check out would be that your coolant levels are OK. If you don't have enough coolant in there you wont have enough fluid to flow through to your heater circuit. If you are adding coolant make absolutely sure that you are adding the correct one. Try all this and see how it goes

      @@rodnette3 Hi are you still replying to this clip of yours I'm sure after watching this I have the same problem which is 1 of many with my 2007 brd engine in an A4 the other problems are drenched relays under my ecu which the workshop I sent it to hadn't diagnosed in 5 months of having the vehicle I've found out more on my own in less than 5 days of having it back

    • @rodnette3
      @rodnette3  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnSmith-uq4zp that is hardly surprising. Stealerships just want to throw expensive parts at the car at your expense instead of thinking through the issue. I have moved on from the Audi several cars ago now but still have fond memories of it. The HVAC issue was a downer on it though. I am not sure about your relays but that does not sound good. I would check if it is water or coolant and try and find where it is originating from, although I suspect that you have already done this. Could be as simple as a pin prick size hole somewhere. Have a look with the engine up to temp and running to see if there is any fluid. There may be a sign if it is spraying but water will generally follow gravity. Hope you find a fix

    • @rodnette3
      @rodnette3  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you run your AC on hot you are effectively introducing another radiator into the system. This will explain why the motor runs cooler. I would start having a google around before throwing money at it. www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-discussion-112/3-0tdi-running-temperature-2942597/

      @rodnette3  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK Bender that is a different problem altogether, however I may be able to guide you. Your problem is that you are not getting any hot coolant flowing into the cabin from the sounds of things. First step I would try is to get the car up to operating temperature and with full heat selected on your dashboard feel the hoses that connect to the HVAC control unit shown in this video. You may have an obstruction somewhere along the line. Your valving on the HVAC control may be seized shut not allowing any flow of hot fluid through to the internal heating core inside the vehicle. If this is the case doing this and freeing up the valves will also remedy your issues. However it is very hard to diagnose problems, such as this remotely. Hope this helps you

      @@rodnette3 thanks mate. I actually tried that after work last night on the way home. It worked. What im finding is that if I have it at full heat (hi) it blows fine, and if the weather is really cold and I put it on say 23.5 degrees. The aircon heat works fine, until the cabin temp picks up alittle, then it starts blowing cold, if I keep ramping up the temperature it blows hot again, but then starts blowing cold. So if I leave it on hi, it blows hot. It almost like theres an issue with the cabin temperture reading or something. Thanks for the help though mate. Bad luck with the footy on the weekend too.
