I'm not lying when I say that exo is the most talented kpop group since 2012! EXO is the most versatile group. They pulled of all genres so well, all type of music. They have everything I need. Slow song? Got it. Upbeat song? Got it. Ballad, rnb, edm, reggae, metal? Rock? You name it, they got it EXO is the opening of the 3rd generation of kpop. They become pioneers in various things, they set the bar, set standards, they become goals that are followed and become role models for their juniors.Many idols idolize exo both as a group and individually, ofc exo is the idol of the idols. EXO is the real legendary king of kpop 3rd generation. Even Forbes says EXO is a legend along with One Direction.EXO is the only group that can compete and beat kpop generation 2nd, become number 1 in generation 3rd, and remain in the top row in generation 4th. Legend thing!

The guy you said that looks like a normal guy, he's D.O. On top of being an idol, he's a very well-known actor in Korea so you won't see him with crazy-styled hair often. He did shave his head for movie roles so you would probably see that in some live performances. He's also one of the main vocalists and leans more towards R&B. The one that was rapping in Overdose, that's the main rapper, Chanyeol. Hope you will react to their live performances next. If you react to their concert performances, best to use the ones in Seoul. Japan ones usually get blocked.
As an ARMY who also loves EXO, I came to hear Overdose! I absolutely love that song. It's my first time listening to Lotto too! I think it has more EDM sound with no 808 so that's why you were missing the bass. I liked the synthy vibes. I've also never heard Tempo. I thought the bridge was amazing and wish there was more of that with the 808 and reverse snare switching to a super mellow R&B ballad sound. I loved the vocal cut layered under the harmonies that you were impressed by starting around 11:31. It was a very nice harmony, I totally agree. I love love love the bridge in Overdose and then Chanyeol's rap following so much. I love the use of percussion in Overdose. I think that the choreographer integrating the percussion in parts was genius and made it so pleasing to the eye. So glad you listened to it!!

Thank you for this, many people didn't really appreciate Tempo enough and was quickly overshadowed by Love Shot, which is sad because the song really shows how good their vocals are. I suggest you Love Me Right, sing for you, and Ko Ko Bop, or if you are curious about their live performances, the best one for me is the Mama + Monster + Wolf in Japan.
I'm glad you mentioned how funky they can sound. Tempo is not their only funky song. They weave funk throughout their entire catalogue. It's one of my favorite things about them.
The one with a normal hair is DO, you can add a great actor to the list. That's why he doesn't really do bold hairstyles because of his acting. And the harmonization part is no surprise for us because EXO are after all the Kings of Vocals, and their synchronisation in all sort of categories is just top notch. Pps. EXO have been around for a little over 9 years and they put out A LOT lol i'd suggest checking a compilation video because MVs alone don't do them justice :)
The song is called "Tempo" and the album is named Don't Mess Up My Tempo, so the song is constantly changing tempos. I think the change in tempo is also supposed to mirror the uncertainty and unsteadiness that EXO are feeling within the storyline in the MV. However, if you read the lyrics, you see that the song is talking to a girl and they are telling her, "Don't mess up my tempo." And yes, part of the tempo in the song is created by the squeak of what is thought to be bed springs. However, as with everything EXO does, there are duel meanings depending on how deeply you want to interpret the song and MV. On the surface the song and MV is meant to be enjoyed by the casual watcher and listener like you would any song on the radio, but if you want to delve in deeper and explore EXO's storyline, then there is so much more going on. D.O has short hair because he is also an actor, and at the time he was filming an international movie called "Swing Kids" where he starred as a North Korean soldier who was a prisoner of war during the Korean War in the 1950s, so his hair was short for his character in the movie. If you watch more of EXO's content, you will see D.O. had even shorter hair -- he had a buzz cut for a pretty long time because the movie took a long time to film -- plus, shortly after this MV was filmed he enlisted in the military to serve his required 18 months as a South Korean citizen, so he needed to keep his hair short for that as well. (He has since been discharged from the military and he is now back with EXO.) As an SM group, it shouldn't be a surprise that EXO are amazing vocalists. That is just what SM is known for. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing vocals and dance skills. That's just a fact about the type of people SM selects to become part of its company. All of SM's artists were first chosen for their vocal and/or dance skills, and even the rappers get intense training as vocalists. None of SM's rappers became a trainee because of their rap skills, all of the company's rappers learned to rap, or really became good at it, only after joining the company. That is why SM is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry because they put a huge emphasis on showcasing outstanding vocal talent. And EXO is a perfect example of that. So each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. The aesthetic of the "Tempo" MV is centered around the color red because the setting is supposed to be depicting the members under the Red Forces' control. Without going into too much detail -- there is so much going on in EXO's "Tempo" MV that it's hard to grasp it all -- what fan theories think is happening in "Tempo" is it is showing the members of EXO all trapped in separate dimensions. Each of those rooms, could possibly be a different dimension and that is why you see the glitches and why you hear Xiumin and Baekhyun with that computerized voice, because they aren't all in the same place at the same time so their voices are being distorted as they try to connect between dimensions, etc. They could also still be trapped in different rooms within the maze, like what we saw them in in "Overdose." For several of EXO's MVs we believe they are still trapped within the maze and they are continuously trying to find their way out. The maze seems to affect their connection to their powers and it clouds their minds and dulls their senses, so not only are they fighting the Red Force and X-EXO, but they are also struggling to break free from the fog the Red Force has them in. That's why you see some of the members just lazily sitting around and kind of blankly staring off into space at times. Baekhyun is the one that is singled out in the MV and he is the one standing above everything looking down, so this is one example of where we think that maybe he is the only one who has avoided the Red Force's control and he is observing everything that is going on from the outside. You see Chanyeol being interrogated by Chen with the inkblot test and that is thought to be the members trying to figure out who are the real EXO members and who are the evil X-EXO members created by the Red Force -- or who are the real members and who are the clones. At this point everyone is suspicious of each other and no one can be trusted. As you may have noticed, halfway through the MV Chanyeol's eyes and hair change color, so some think that this is either showing two different versions of Chanyeol who appear in two different time periods or dimensions, or one is Chanyeol the EXO member and one is Chanyeol the X-EXO clone. In the very last scene, that is Baekhyun with that cube. I am not sure what that means, but I am sure it's foreshadowing something to come in the future with EXO's storyline. You also see EXO's Chinese member Lay in this MV, but you won't see or hear him sing or dance in this MV because you watched the Korean version and at this time the Chinese government only gave him permission to appear in the Korean version of "Tempo", but he wasn't allowed to participate in the song. If you want to hear Lay sing you will have to watch the Mandarin version of the "Tempo" MV. Lay has a few lines in the Mandarin version, but he was not allowed to work with the other members, so all his parts were recorded separately and they had to be inserted into the song and MV. He had to get special permission even to take part in this comeback, and this is the closest we have gotten to seeing him back with the group since all these political issues between Korea and China started almost 5 years ago now. And so far, this is the one and only time you will see him in an EXO MV and song since 2016. However, the tension between Korea and China has started to let up and the Chinese government, has recently rescinded their ban on Korea and China working together, so we have the potential to see Lay come back to do a project with EXO in the future. It's kind of mind blowing the amount of planning and manipulation SM Entertainment has been doing over the years to connect all the dots and to continue the story. It gets even crazier when you realize how even the most minute of details were crafted to be a hidden message or detail within that storyline. Nothing in this MV is random or done just because, even the smallest of detail has been planned out to either connect to something to do with EXO's storyline from past MVs or it will become a key part to help explain something in one of their future MVs. Here is a list of the members and what their powers are to help you pinpoint the powers being used in their MVs and live performances. EXO-K 💦 Suho (Kim JunMyeon) is the leader of the group and he is a lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control water (Fun fact: Suho in Korean means guardian, as in the guardian of EXO. That's why as the leader of EXO, his stage name is Suho) 💡Baekhyun is a main vocalist and his superpower is the ability to control light 🔥Chanyeol is the main rapper and lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control fire and his spirit animal is the phoenix. 🌏D.O. (Do KyungSoo) is a main vocalist and his power is the ability to control earth (dirt) which gives him strength/force ☄Kai (Kim JongIn) is a main dancer, lead vocalist and sub-rapper and his power is teleportation. I'm pretty sure Tempo doesn't change tempo, *from my understanding.* The bridge goes in half-time giving the illusion of the tempo slowing down if you're just thinking about the accentuated beats, but it's still the same tempo. Edit: Also, I really commend you for this comment!!
EXO has an extensive back catalogue as they debuted in 2012, so have changed their sounds and styles a lot over the years. If you’re going to be skipping around MVs/live sets rather than going chronologically, you'll probably get confused at the number of members as they go up and down depending on era. EXO’s concept is based on them being aliens from the Planet EXO. There were 2 pre-debut songs, ‘What is Love’ and ‘History’, followed by the official debut 'Mama' (which means majesty, not mother). This MV gives an introduction to each of the members and their superpowers. There are 2 versions (Korean and Chinese) and you will need to watch them both to get the full picture. The reason for this is that there were originally 12 members of EXO, who were split into two groups of 6 and each video focusses on one group. EXO-K (Korea) Suho (water) (overall Leader) (Lead Vocalist) Baekhyun (light) (Main Vocalist) Chanyeol (fire) (Main Rapper/Vocalist) D.O. (earth/power) (Lead Vocalist) Kai (teleportation) (Main Dancer/Lead Rapper/Visual) Sehun (maknae) (wind) (Lead Dancer/Rapper) EXO-M (Mandarin) Xiumin (frost) (Lead Vocalist) Kris (flight) (M Leader) (Dancer/Rapper) Luhan (telekinesis) (Lead Vocalist/Lead Dancer/Visual) Lay (healing) (Main Dancer/Vocalist) Chen (lightning) (Main Vocalist) Tao (time control) (Lead Rapper) Although they identified as separate groups, the next few singles featured all 12 members in the MVs. However, again Korean and Mandarin versions of the MVs were released with the main vocals being provided by the relevant group. This continued until 2014/15, when 3 of the Chinese members left (Kris, Luhan and Tao) and the remaining 3 (Xiumin, Chen and Lay) joined the Korean group, now calling themselves just EXO, which made 9 members. Lay is the only one who is actually Chinese. (the guy with the normal hair you mentioned in 'Tempo') had both enlisted. With their latest comeback, ‘Don’t Fight the Feeling’, which is coming out on 7 June 2021, Lay will be part of the group once more, which everyone is extremely excited about although he won’t be going to Korea for any promotions. For this comeback there will be 7 members as Suho and Chen are both currently enlisted. Baekhyun and Chanyeol (the rapper you mentioned in 'Overdose') were both involved in recording the new album. However, they have now both enlisted too, so won’t be involved in any promotion, which leaves 4 active members in Korea. The 2 youngest members (Kai and Sehun) still have to enlist sometime in the next couple of years, while Xiumin and D.O. have both been discharged. In addition to the main EXO albums, there is a lot of solo or sub-unit material from almost all the band members, even before they started enlisting, as they are all vocally excellent. As if all that wasn’t enough, most of them play multiple instruments (especially Chanyeol and Lay who both produce and write music too), almost all of them are actors - D.O., in particular, has won multiple awards and was recently included in a campaign showcasing the top 200 actors in South Korea. Several of them have also acted in stage musicals - Xiumin is shortly to star in Hades Town. If you're interested in learning more about the band and the individual members, which will help you to recognise them, then I would suggest you start with the Cesar Oh guides as they're very good - there is a group guide and one for each member. They also do a series on EXO’s concept and where all the MVs fit in, which is extremely complex and goes way beyond the superpowers. You're definitely going to want to check out live stages as EXO are even better live than in the MVs, but beware of the Japanese ones, they often get blocked.
The member you pointed out in Tempo (black hair + short cut) is D.O. aka KyungSoo ... he's not your average kpop star and i think he might be your favorite in the group ... to tell you a bit more about him, he's known for his agile vocals and very RnB influenced style, he's a dancer, a licensed chef, a prestigious actor and he's loved by the general public for his kind and calm nature and professionalism The rapper you pointed in overdose is ChanYeol ... he's one of EXO's main rappers ... he's also not your average kpop idol (he called me untalented in every language lol) ... aside from being a fire rapper he's a very talented singer, he plays multiple instruments (drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, piano) he's also a DJ, an actor, a composer, lyricist, producer (producer name Loey which is Yeol backwards), designer (designed the EXO logo), he's a 6'1 tall, kind-natured, animal-lover, passionate man that's why he earned the nickname 'giant baby' This is why i recommend watching the group and individual guides because EXO are just too talented to not know of what they're capable of ;)

The one you mentioned having short black hair is D.O. (Do Kyungsoo). He is a very famous actor in Korea (acting critics gave him the title of best idol actor in Korea) so he has to keep his hair simple for acting roles. He is also a very simple person himself so he doesn't like all the crazy hairstyles and colors. On top of that he is one of the best kpop vocalists so he is indeed a very simple person but insanely talented.

So Exo didn’t start getting English subs for their videos till 2018. Also all of Exo’s songs are connected to their concept that they are aliens from Exoplanet and being hunted by an evil force called The Red Force oh and they also all have individual powers.

Fan theories believe that "Lotto" is the prequel to "Monster." "Monster" is from EXO's EX'Act album and "Lotto" is from their EX'Act repackaged album. So, to understand the story in "Lotto" and "Monster" you have to connect the two storylines. How I interpret things is that the story starts in "Lotto" as EXO goes undercover and works to take down the gambling ring, which is thought to probably be run by the Red Force, and now that we know about EXO's clones, from their "Obsession" storyline, maybe even X-EXO are involved. You may have noticed that you don't see Kai dancing in the "Lotto" MV. Lay -- EXO's Chinese member and EXO-M's main dancer -- and Sehun -- EXO-K's second rapper and also a main dancer -- are the dancers highlighted in "Lotto." Kai was injured during this time and couldn't dance. And if you see a live performance of this song during this time, you will notice that Kai is absent when Lay is part of the performance. You might also notice, if you watch a live performance, that in some live TV network performances of "Lotto" that they change the title of the song to "Louder" and the lyrics are changed to use the word louder instead of lotto as well. Gambling is illegal in Korea and it's one of those things that are banned from being talked about in mainstream media. So in order to make the song TV- and radio-friendly they had to change everything to "Louder." I think the two stories in both "Lotto" and "Monster" actually overlap. I think both MVs take place in the same location and around the same time frame, and in each MV you see the members in different moments as they try to destroy everything to do with this gambling ring. You see them breaking everything in both MVs and you see them smash the car in "Lotto" and in "Monster" you see the car has now been set on fire, and they burn the money and other things in "Lotto" as well, etc. At the end of "Lotto" you see the police or FBI have come in and are just starting to take the members into custody (they are not there to kill them LOL), but if you remember in "Monster" it shows all the members have now been arrested. So I see it as the fight starts in "Lotto" and continues in "Monster." At the end of "Monster" all the members were now in custody and Baekhyun rescues them as he releases them from the back of the police van allowing them to escape, etc. The birds you see in the cage are roosters -- cock fighting roosters to be exact -- and they are another form of gambling. And the dogs are probably guard dogs like what criminal enterprises use as part of their security to deter someone from causing trouble or wanting to rob them, etc. The dogs are thought to be part of the Red Forces' security efforts. Don't worry, SM and EXO don't like animal cruelty either, that's the whole point they are trying to make. It's just another form of evil that comes with gambling. Also, in the "Obsession" MV we see EXO are the members in all black and X-EXO are the members in the colorful outfits with the crazy makeup and hair. If you notice, in "Monster" the members are all in black for part of the MV (In parts of the "Monster" MV we see EXO in black and red outfits, which we have now started to think is supposed to be X-EXO in those scenes because of the red on their outfits), and in "Lotto" they are pretty much in black or dark neutral colors, so that is why I think both MVs are depicting the story from EXO's point of view. So, I think what we are watching are the EXO members trying to take down X-EXO and the Red Force and stop the evil and corruption that the Red Force is inflicting on the world which is depicted here as corruption through illegal gambling. We are not really sure what the girl takes from Chanyeol at the end of "Lotto", but it definitely wasn't money. If you pay attention to the lyrics, one of the English lines is, "I don't need no money." That is why they burn the huge stack of cash. Most theories agree that the currency that EXO values the most is flowers. There is an overwhelming use of flowers in many of their MVs, and as you will see in "Love Shot," for example, they aren't collecting money but flowers. And in "Hey Mama" and "Blooming Day" and "Love Me Right", etc. you see them with flowers. My theory is that the girl is somehow connected to EXO's quest to find and protect the Tree of Life and that is why at the end of "Lotto" you see her secretly take something -- which if you pause the MV and zoom in, you will see looks like a small video tape -- to somehow help them in their quest. The video tape is thought to be the video that D.O. is filming with the camcorder in the middle of "Lotto." It's still unclear at this point how the girl fits in the storyline, but I think, or at least I hope, that in the future we will discover more about her and what significance she has within the story. Some say the "girl" that EXO is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs -- like in "Lotto" -- is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all their songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, such as in "Overdose" for example. Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end they know they might destroy her -- as they say in "Monster," etc. etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life the mystery begins to unfold even more. It's been more than 4 years since "Lotto" came out and I have seen the MV dozens of times, and each time I watch it I still see something different and am still working to unravel more clues. But "Lotto" and "Monster" are the two EXO MVs that have me the most confused. And I am still struggling to really grasp the full story those MVs are trying to tell. I think part of the reason why I find these two MVs so confusing, is the fact that these MVs depart the most from the linear storyline and the story jumps back and forth between the two MVs so much that I struggle to put the events in order in my mind to really make a clear picture.

Overdose is the song that got me into Kpop 7 years ago, it's a very special song for me, my favorite Kpop song to be honest!! I'm happy to see people appreciating EXO, they're incredible!

The guy you said that looks like a normal guy, he's D.O. On top of being an idol, he's a very well-known actor in Korea so you won't see him with crazy-styled hair often. He did shave his head for movie roles so you would probably see that in some live performances. He's also one of the main vocalists and leans more towards R&B. The one that was rapping in Overdose, that's the main rapper, Chanyeol. Hope you will react to their live performances next. If you react to their concert performances, best to use the ones in Seoul. Japan ones usually get blocked.

As an ARMY who also loves EXO, I came to hear Overdose! I absolutely love that song. It's my first time listening to Lotto too! I think it has more EDM sound with no 808 so that's why you were missing the bass. I liked the synthy vibes. I've also never heard Tempo. I thought the bridge was amazing and wish there was more of that with the 808 and reverse snare switching to a super mellow R&B ballad sound. I loved the vocal cut layered under the harmonies that you were impressed by starting around 11:31. It was a very nice harmony, I totally agree. I love love love the bridge in Overdose and then Chanyeol's rap following so much. I love the use of percussion in Overdose. I think that the choreographer integrating the percussion in parts was genius and made it so pleasing to the eye. So glad you listened to it!!

Thank you for this, many people didn't really appreciate Tempo enough and was quickly overshadowed by Love Shot, which is sad because the song really shows how good their vocals are. I suggest you Love Me Right, sing for you, and Ko Ko Bop, or if you are curious about their live performances, the best one for me is the Mama + Monster + Wolf in Japan.

I'm glad you mentioned how funky they can sound. Tempo is not their only funky song. They weave funk throughout their entire catalogue. It's one of my favorite things about them.
The one with a normal hair is DO, you can add a great actor to the list. That's why he doesn't really do bold hairstyles because of his acting. And the harmonization part is no surprise for us because EXO are after all the Kings of Vocals, and their synchronisation in all sort of categories is just top notch.

Ps. since EXO as a group and as soloists have a huge discography and you've seen 6 MVs so far, i'd suggest starting with the guides (group and individual guides) to help you get to know the group more and make it easier for you to recognize whose voice you like best so you can check his/their solos.
Pps. EXO have been around for a little over 9 years and they put out A LOT lol i'd suggest checking a compilation video because MVs alone don't do them justice :)
The song is called "Tempo" and the album is named Don't Mess Up My Tempo, so the song is constantly changing tempos. I think the change in tempo is also supposed to mirror the uncertainty and unsteadiness that EXO are feeling within the storyline in the MV. However, if you read the lyrics, you see that the song is talking to a girl and they are telling her, "Don't mess up my tempo." And yes, part of the tempo in the song is created by the squeak of what is thought to be bed springs. However, as with everything EXO does, there are duel meanings depending on how deeply you want to interpret the song and MV. On the surface the song and MV is meant to be enjoyed by the casual watcher and listener like you would any song on the radio, but if you want to delve in deeper and explore EXO's storyline, then there is so much more going on.
D.O has short hair because he is also an actor, and at the time he was filming an international movie called "Swing Kids" where he starred as a North Korean soldier who was a prisoner of war during the Korean War in the 1950s, so his hair was short for his character in the movie. If you watch more of EXO's content, you will see D.O. had even shorter hair -- he had a buzz cut for a pretty long time because the movie took a long time to film -- plus, shortly after this MV was filmed he enlisted in the military to serve his required 18 months as a South Korean citizen, so he needed to keep his hair short for that as well. (He has since been discharged from the military and he is now back with EXO.)
As an SM group, it shouldn't be a surprise that EXO are amazing vocalists. That is just what SM is known for. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing vocals and dance skills. That's just a fact about the type of people SM selects to become part of its company. All of SM's artists were first chosen for their vocal and/or dance skills, and even the rappers get intense training as vocalists. None of SM's rappers became a trainee because of their rap skills, all of the company's rappers learned to rap, or really became good at it, only after joining the company. That is why SM is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry because they put a huge emphasis on showcasing outstanding vocal talent. And EXO is a perfect example of that.
So each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us.
The aesthetic of the "Tempo" MV is centered around the color red because the setting is supposed to be depicting the members under the Red Forces' control. Without going into too much detail -- there is so much going on in EXO's "Tempo" MV that it's hard to grasp it all -- what fan theories think is happening in "Tempo" is it is showing the members of EXO all trapped in separate dimensions. Each of those rooms, could possibly be a different dimension and that is why you see the glitches and why you hear Xiumin and Baekhyun with that computerized voice, because they aren't all in the same place at the same time so their voices are being distorted as they try to connect between dimensions, etc.
They could also still be trapped in different rooms within the maze, like what we saw them in in "Overdose." For several of EXO's MVs we believe they are still trapped within the maze and they are continuously trying to find their way out. The maze seems to affect their connection to their powers and it clouds their minds and dulls their senses, so not only are they fighting the Red Force and X-EXO, but they are also struggling to break free from the fog the Red Force has them in. That's why you see some of the members just lazily sitting around and kind of blankly staring off into space at times.
Baekhyun is the one that is singled out in the MV and he is the one standing above everything looking down, so this is one example of where we think that maybe he is the only one who has avoided the Red Force's control and he is observing everything that is going on from the outside.
You see Chanyeol being interrogated by Chen with the inkblot test and that is thought to be the members trying to figure out who are the real EXO members and who are the evil X-EXO members created by the Red Force -- or who are the real members and who are the clones. At this point everyone is suspicious of each other and no one can be trusted. As you may have noticed, halfway through the MV Chanyeol's eyes and hair change color, so some think that this is either showing two different versions of Chanyeol who appear in two different time periods or dimensions, or one is Chanyeol the EXO member and one is Chanyeol the X-EXO clone.
In the very last scene, that is Baekhyun with that cube. I am not sure what that means, but I am sure it's foreshadowing something to come in the future with EXO's storyline.
You also see EXO's Chinese member Lay in this MV, but you won't see or hear him sing or dance in this MV because you watched the Korean version and at this time the Chinese government only gave him permission to appear in the Korean version of "Tempo", but he wasn't allowed to participate in the song. If you want to hear Lay sing you will have to watch the Mandarin version of the "Tempo" MV. Lay has a few lines in the Mandarin version, but he was not allowed to work with the other members, so all his parts were recorded separately and they had to be inserted into the song and MV. He had to get special permission even to take part in this comeback, and this is the closest we have gotten to seeing him back with the group since all these political issues between Korea and China started almost 5 years ago now. And so far, this is the one and only time you will see him in an EXO MV and song since 2016. However, the tension between Korea and China has started to let up and the Chinese government, has recently rescinded their ban on Korea and China working together, so we have the potential to see Lay come back to do a project with EXO in the future.
It's kind of mind blowing the amount of planning and manipulation SM Entertainment has been doing over the years to connect all the dots and to continue the story. It gets even crazier when you realize how even the most minute of details were crafted to be a hidden message or detail within that storyline.
Nothing in this MV is random or done just because, even the smallest of detail has been planned out to either connect to something to do with EXO's storyline from past MVs or it will become a key part to help explain something in one of their future MVs.

☄Kai (Kim JongIn) is a main dancer, lead vocalist and sub-rapper and his power is teleportation. (Kai means opening as in a door or gateway, so his stage name symbolizes his role within EXO's storyline.)
🌪Sehun is the youngest member of the group and he is a main rapper, main dancer and a vocalist -- his power is the ability to control wind

❄Xiumin (Kim MinSeok) is the oldest member of the group and he is a lead vocalist and lead rapper and his power is the ability to control snow/ice (frost)

I'm pretty sure Tempo doesn't change tempo, *from my understanding.* The bridge goes in half-time giving the illusion of the tempo slowing down if you're just thinking about the accentuated beats, but it's still the same tempo.

EXO has an extensive back catalogue as they debuted in 2012, so have changed their sounds and styles a lot over the years. If you’re going to be skipping around MVs/live sets rather than going chronologically, you'll probably get confused at the number of members as they go up and down depending on era. EXO’s concept is based on them being aliens from the Planet EXO.
There were 2 pre-debut songs, ‘What is Love’ and ‘History’, followed by the official debut 'Mama' (which means majesty, not mother). This MV gives an introduction to each of the members and their superpowers. There are 2 versions (Korean and Chinese) and you will need to watch them both to get the full picture. The reason for this is that there were originally 12 members of EXO, who were split into two groups of 6 and each video focusses on one group.

Although they identified as separate groups, the next few singles featured all 12 members in the MVs. However, again Korean and Mandarin versions of the MVs were released with the main vocals being provided by the relevant group. This continued until 2014/15, when 3 of the Chinese members left (Kris, Luhan and Tao) and the remaining 3 (Xiumin, Chen and Lay) joined the Korean group, now calling themselves just EXO, which made 9 members. Lay is the only one who is actually Chinese. Thus, from ‘Love Me Right’ onwards there is no difference between the K & M versions of the MVs apart from the language as all the available members take part. They also have a few Japanese releases, the MVs for which tend to be shorter than normal releases.
While still very much a member of the group, Lay hasn’t been able to perform with EXO for several years because of tensions between China and Korea, so in several of the MVs the group performs as 8. However, due to the mandatory requirement for members to undertake military service before they reach 30, by the time they recorded ‘Obsession’ the number was down to 6, as Xiumin and D.O. (the guy with the normal hair you mentioned in 'Tempo') had both enlisted.
With their latest comeback, ‘Don’t Fight the Feeling’, which is coming out on 7 June 2021, Lay will be part of the group once more, which everyone is extremely excited about although he won’t be going to Korea for any promotions. For this comeback there will be 7 members as Suho and Chen are both currently enlisted. Baekhyun and Chanyeol (the rapper you mentioned in 'Overdose') were both involved in recording the new album. However, they have now both enlisted too, so won’t be involved in any promotion, which leaves 4 active members in Korea. The 2 youngest members (Kai and Sehun) still have to enlist sometime in the next couple of years, while Xiumin and D.O. have both been discharged.
In addition to the main EXO albums, there is a lot of solo or sub-unit material from almost all the band members, even before they started enlisting, as they are all vocally excellent. Here’s a quick list of their work outside of EXO.
• EXO-CBX - Sub-unit made up of Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin - album ‘Magic’ and EPs ‘Hey Mama!’, ‘Girls’ and ‘Blooming Days’ plus several OSTs (original soundtracks)

As if all that wasn’t enough, most of them play multiple instruments (especially Chanyeol and Lay who both produce and write music too), almost all of them are actors - D.O., in particular, has won multiple awards and was recently included in a campaign showcasing the top 200 actors in South Korea. Several of them have also acted in stage musicals - Xiumin is shortly to star in Hades Town.
If you're interested in learning more about the band and the individual members, which will help you to recognise them, then I would suggest you start with the Cesar Oh guides as they're very good - there is a group guide and one for each member. They also do a series on EXO’s concept and where all the MVs fit in, which is extremely complex and goes way beyond the superpowers.
You're definitely going to want to check out live stages as EXO are even better live than in the MVs, but beware of the Japanese ones, they often get blocked.

The rapper you pointed in overdose is ChanYeol ... he's one of EXO's main rappers ... he's also not your average kpop idol (he called me untalented in every language lol) ... aside from being a fire rapper he's a very talented singer, he plays multiple instruments (drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, piano) he's also a DJ, an actor, a composer, lyricist, producer (producer name Loey which is Yeol backwards), designer (designed the EXO logo), he's a 6'1 tall, kind-natured, animal-lover, passionate man that's why he earned the nickname 'giant baby'
This is why i recommend watching the group and individual guides because EXO are just too talented to not know of what they're capable of ;)

He is a very famous actor in Korea (acting critics gave him the title of best idol actor in Korea) so he has to keep his hair simple for acting roles. He is also a very simple person himself so he doesn't like all the crazy hairstyles and colors. On top of that he is one of the best kpop vocalists so he is indeed a very simple person but insanely talented.

So Exo didn’t start getting English subs for their videos till 2018. Also all of Exo’s songs are connected to their concept that they are aliens from Exoplanet and being hunted by an evil force called The Red Force oh and they also all have individual powers.

Fan theories believe that "Lotto" is the prequel to "Monster." "Monster" is from EXO's EX'Act album and "Lotto" is from their EX'Act repackaged album. So, to understand the story in "Lotto" and "Monster" you have to connect the two storylines. How I interpret things is that the story starts in "Lotto" as EXO goes undercover and works to take down the gambling ring, which is thought to probably be run by the Red Force, and now that we know about EXO's clones, from their "Obsession" storyline, maybe even X-EXO are involved.
You may have noticed that you don't see Kai dancing in the "Lotto" MV. Lay -- EXO's Chinese member and EXO-M's main dancer -- and Sehun -- EXO-K's second rapper and also a main dancer -- are the dancers highlighted in "Lotto." Kai was injured during this time and couldn't dance. And if you see a live performance of this song during this time, you will notice that Kai is absent when Lay is part of the performance.
You might also notice, if you watch a live performance, that in some live TV network performances of "Lotto" that they change the title of the song to "Louder" and the lyrics are changed to use the word louder instead of lotto as well. Gambling is illegal in Korea and it's one of those things that are banned from being talked about in mainstream media. So in order to make the song TV- and radio-friendly they had to change everything to "Louder."
I think the two stories in both "Lotto" and "Monster" actually overlap. I think both MVs take place in the same location and around the same time frame, and in each MV you see the members in different moments as they try to destroy everything to do with this gambling ring. You see them breaking everything in both MVs and you see them smash the car in "Lotto" and in "Monster" you see the car has now been set on fire, and they burn the money and other things in "Lotto" as well, etc. At the end of "Lotto" you see the police or FBI have come in and are just starting to take the members into custody (they are not there to kill them LOL), but if you remember in "Monster" it shows all the members have now been arrested. So I see it as the fight starts in "Lotto" and continues in "Monster." At the end of "Monster" all the members were now in custody and Baekhyun rescues them as he releases them from the back of the police van allowing them to escape, etc.
The birds you see in the cage are roosters -- cock fighting roosters to be exact -- and they are another form of gambling. And the dogs are probably guard dogs like what criminal enterprises use as part of their security to deter someone from causing trouble or wanting to rob them, etc. The dogs are thought to be part of the Red Forces' security efforts. Don't worry, SM and EXO don't like animal cruelty either, that's the whole point they are trying to make. It's just another form of evil that comes with gambling.
Also, in the "Obsession" MV we see EXO are the members in all black and X-EXO are the members in the colorful outfits with the crazy makeup and hair. If you notice, in "Monster" the members are all in black for part of the MV (In parts of the "Monster" MV we see EXO in black and red outfits, which we have now started to think is supposed to be X-EXO in those scenes because of the red on their outfits), and in "Lotto" they are pretty much in black or dark neutral colors, so that is why I think both MVs are depicting the story from EXO's point of view. So, I think what we are watching are the EXO members trying to take down X-EXO and the Red Force and stop the evil and corruption that the Red Force is inflicting on the world which is depicted here as corruption through illegal gambling.
We are not really sure what the girl takes from Chanyeol at the end of "Lotto", but it definitely wasn't money. If you pay attention to the lyrics, one of the English lines is, "I don't need no money." That is why they burn the huge stack of cash. Most theories agree that the currency that EXO values the most is flowers. There is an overwhelming use of flowers in many of their MVs, and as you will see in "Love Shot," for example, they aren't collecting money but flowers. And in "Hey Mama" and "Blooming Day" and "Love Me Right", etc. you see them with flowers.
My theory is that the girl is somehow connected to EXO's quest to find and protect the Tree of Life and that is why at the end of "Lotto" you see her secretly take something -- which if you pause the MV and zoom in, you will see looks like a small video tape -- to somehow help them in their quest. The video tape is thought to be the video that D.O. is filming with the camcorder in the middle of "Lotto." It's still unclear at this point how the girl fits in the storyline, but I think, or at least I hope, that in the future we will discover more about her and what significance she has within the story.
Some say the "girl" that EXO is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs -- like in "Lotto" -- is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all their songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, such as in "Overdose" for example. Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end they know they might destroy her -- as they say in "Monster," etc. etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life the mystery begins to unfold even more.
It's been more than 4 years since "Lotto" came out and I have seen the MV dozens of times, and each time I watch it I still see something different and am still working to unravel more clues. But "Lotto" and "Monster" are the two EXO MVs that have me the most confused. And I am still struggling to really grasp the full story those MVs are trying to tell. I think part of the reason why I find these two MVs so confusing, is the fact that these MVs depart the most from the linear storyline and the story jumps back and forth between the two MVs so much that I struggle to put the events in order in my mind to really make a clear picture.
