TH-cam has arisen for a brief period of time (I think that it's not for long), so I could watch this. Interesting comparison. Though these are completely different genres, somehow you managed to make a good story out of this😁 As for me...I can never decide the best among anything I like: games, DLCs, anime, living moments or anything else. There are always moments I like and moments I dislike. And my controversial nature just doesn't allow me to make a rating, only something like top 5 where everything is equally good and can be replaced with each other in random order.
@@Sargatas Yeah. I can usually feel good about my picks. I still believe FR slightly edges out SotE. I'll play BMW a lot today and use guides im each chapter to find all bosses because I dont want to miss anything and replay the game for it.
@@Ontos99 I had to play it 3,5 times to do some achievements (actually it demands 2 playthroughs, but I'm blind and missed the part where it's said that I have to do something BEFORE killing a boss). Though I'm not mad about it because every chapter final boss is A or S tier. In fact in my top 5 favorite bosses there are 2 from this game now: final one and one of secret bosses. And an honored mention - chapter 5 final boss, it is amasing as well. And yeah, guides are nessesary if you want to fight everyone, some bosses are hidden so well that you 100% will miss something on your own.
And here I am tearing up again after another beautiful discussion of Future Redeemed ❤ Shadow of the Erdtree looks incredible though, but of course the Future Redeemed segments in this video resonated with me more. Fantastic comparison Ontos, honestly love your content~
Another big difference is that Future Redeemed is more like a separate smaller-scale Xenoblade game of its own, while Shadow of the Erdtree is built directly on top of the pre-existing Elden Ring, including using the character you've built up in the base game. "I promise you, a thousand-year journey-" "SHUT THE HELL UP ALREADY! I AIN'T TAKIN' ORDERS, FROM YOU!"
Haha that last sentence is gold ;)) I just feel like FR has added so much depth, contextualization, new characters, incredible map, fun exploration ON TOP of referencing both Shulk and Rex who are deeply nostalgic characters for me. Like FR is doing so many things simultaneously that impressed me as a gamer. Although the more I dig into Shadow of the erdtree, the more impressed I get, it is still not quite on the level of FR for me. Very close but not quite there!
@@Ontos99 Thanks, glad you liked it. 😉 Like I said before, I can't pick since they're both so good! I have only played these two Expansions once each so far though, perhaps I'll change my mind when I replay them. The only point SotE has at the moment is that I still wanted to keep playing until I got very close to 100% completion, whereas I decided to stop with Xenoblade 3 before finishing all the bonus bosses in Future Redeemed or the added Challenge Battle stuff in the main game, despite having started both expansions directly after a 100% completion playthrough of their base games. They both took about 300 hours each to get to those points though, so it's not surprising I'd get a little fatigued of Xenoblade by that time, and I haven't felt like doing a New Game + playthrough of Elden Ring yet either despite wanting to see the other results for character side-quests in SotE some day. I replay Soulslikes a lot more often than Xenoblade games too.
The thing that will always raise Future redeem as my favorite piece of media is how I walked in with the expectation that would be culmination of Xenoblade 1 2 and 3 and raise my enjoyment of them even further and it somehow exceeded that lofty expectation. It can be fully enjoyed by someone who has only played Xenoblade series alone it but if you have knowledge of the what came before Blade, the radio scene is, absolutely one of the wildest things I have ever seen in any piece of media. Having the singer who was there at the lending her Vocals for Xenogears and Xenosaga 1's credits come back and sing the credits song for this arc after all these years is just, I cannot put words to it.
I agree! It exceeded my expectations big time. I can easily say if you don't experience FR, you simply won't understand the ultimate vision behind Xenoblade 3 as an experience. The DLC is THAT crucial. That map, the lore, new affinity trees, the dialogues, the emotions I felt...It was a surreal experience that I hope this video tried to put into words accurately. Shadow of the erdtree also impressed me a lot which is why the ranking is so close but there is a secret magic sauce in FR that elevates it to number 1 for me.
for elden ring, even though there are misses like metyr, the lion and radahn, i dont think they are as bad as let's say fire giant from the base game. And since gorick and astel are so lazily copy pasted and the regal ancestor spirit is a reskin, and even at it's best, the dlc surpassed it to me due to four incredible bosses- messmer, relanna, bayle and midra. i would actually give elden ring dlc an 8.5 or an 8.8 though.
The bosses are the best part of the DLC imo. They look so much cooler and more intimidating than in base. Golden Hippo is my fave because I'm crazy, but they're all great
Fromsoft Lore telling could be perfect but it´s ultimately flawed. Hiding and symbolism is a very fun way to tell a story but picking out major parts to never reveal and make them unexplainable is bs. "But Miyazaki couldn´t understand engl. as a child, use your imagination it´s cool" NO it´s not cool. It´s the laziest way possible to create mystery.
No. I love Fromsoft's approach to lore and narrative. Especially Elden Ring is very strong. If this video was comparing base game Elden Ring and XC3 lore, then the winner would be too obvious lol
@pard2397 I think the mistake you are making is expecting every single thing to be explained, since this is a video game. In most Fromsoft games, you are a historian and archaeologist. You only have so much information available. You need to observe everything, including architecture, religious symbolism, etc What this also means is that almost no single person will get the entire lore. You will have major insights in your domain. You also need to consider that what you read may not be true. History is written by the victors. TLDR: Elden Ring lore is a group effort like archaeology.
@@Ontos99 You don´t get what i mean. Why did Marika shattered the Ring? Cause Godwyn was the only Child she truly loved, cause she wanted more power, cause ... the truth is nobody will ever know and thats sad. Hide it the best you can but erasing it is just frustrating.

I give the DLC an easy 9.5 - A masterpiece even with some flaws (like slightly empty spaces in the overworld).
