Takada's death always gets me... She was out there, alone and terrified, begging for him to save her, and all she got from Light was heartless betrayal.
Matt is a Wammy's House kid who appears to specialize in technology. Mello got in contact with him after he left Near and was staying in his (Matt's) hideout while surveilling Misa. Matt was considered one of the smartest kids at the orphanage just behind Near and Mello.
It's wild that he traumatized this girl on a date when they were in high school, calls this her up years later when she's like successful and reveals he's a serial killer and then just straight up claps her for her loyalty. That mans light is actually the ceo of big evil.
I think matt’s death is meant to emphasise how the world has actually got more dangerous under Kira’s rule. Sure, the ^number^ of crimes has decreased, but doing so by making the punishment for every crime Death means that people feel emboldened to carry out that punishment for themselves on others. Kira basically condoned the guards’ killing of Matt just by killing people who defied him in the past, which is why they wanted to carry out his will for him. Also, other people have mentioned, but Matt comes up a lot more often in the manga. I get why he, out of everyone, was cut, but it does come out of nowhere. Doesn’t stop him being a fan favourite tho lol. He was technically 3rd in line to be L’s successor at wammy’s house, but he clearly didnt take that very seriously. He was the one Mello got to do most of the daily surveillance on Misa, and also Mello’s friend. The creators said that ‘Matt was created so Mello wouldn’t be lonely’ :)
Also he is hot, a true friend to Mello, and rejects Kira's loyalists in the face of death. Incredible world-building in the short scene too. I'm glad he still appeared in the anime for my own biases hehe :)
Matt's death shows how the world (especially Japan) has changed since the Kira killings started. For many people Kira is justice, so there really is no point in waiting for due process anymore.
Poor girl. It's a shame she didn't realize what Light was up to and just write down his name instead. Would have been a well deserved punishment for Light.
Hi Matt! Bye Matt! Let's learn from this and teach the youth of today not to say "bet" when held at gunpoint. Also, congrats for beating smoking Matt well done.
Are you going to be posting the last two reactions as one long episode or are you going to keep them with the cliffhanger in the middle? Just curious :D

Matt (guy that was shot and died) had much more of a spotlight in the manga, thats why the anime treats like you already know him
Matt's death was really a "what are you going to do, shoot me?" moment.

There goes the third smartest Wammy's house kid, lol.

Kiyomi wasn't the one with him when he did the bus-jacking during high school; Kiyomi was "Miss Toho," he met her in college.
