Norm was a genius, his delivery and choice of stories always had you hanging on his words. RIP Norm, gone to young
Yeah, sigh
Agreed. This, unfortunately, was a shortened version of the Janice tale.
too*
Janice is presumed deceased. We should come to terms with this sobering realization and try to live life to it’s fullest; with Janice always in our fondest memories. #RIPjanice
#ripjanice
In sad times like this I always feel that I can turn to my friend Janice ... fvck, I forgot she vanished.
Janice was the best 👍
@@danielschegh9695they'll find her.
I knew it wasn't good when they started looking deep in the woods. Nothing good ever happens there.
That was the beauty of Norm MacDonald's comedy: no punch lines. Because he knew that's what you expected, and he'd rather make you laugh by not giving it to you. Genius!
No punchlines ? That’s an insane statement
I would say "his punchline was the joke" is more correct
The punchline was the very deep grave line.
His delivery was legendary...he could take a bad dad joke and make you laugh hysterically.
RIP Janice
I think about Janice's bangs to this day
I have fevered dreams of Janice in bangs.
The moth joke by norm is a must.
CLASSIC Norm. Great introduction to his work. You would also enjoy his Moth Joke...and its much shorter than 12 minutes. He was a legend. So happy you liked him.
Second this
Pretty much any clip of Norm on Conan
@@BubbaCoop second this
Love the moth joke! I watched something that said he made it up on the spot because Conan wanted him to do a second set! Might just be a rumor, but it was on the internet, so it must be true!
He made up the moth joke, sorta, because they made him stay on for an extra segment.
It's because the H is silent. "Honor" or "honest" would also use "an". It's about the vowel sound more than there actually being a vowel.
I was going to say that!
That is what my linguistics class taught me as well.
it's spelled honour.
@@blackberrythorns ok
Also, doesn’t Norm say “half the hour” (and not “half a hour”) in this bit? Or have I been mishearing it for a decade?
Norm was by all accounts very intelligent, I think people say he’d do high level math on his free time and was very well read. He was particularly fond of Mark Twain and Russian literature. He was the master of playing dumb. RIP❤️
Exactly. No one is laughing at the educated man.
Dummies.
Now that’s something we can all laugh at. 😂
He was so good at that.
He also graduated from Stanford university at 19
Yeah, he was an actual genius.
Certified math genius. Graduated HS at 14.
He was a professor of logic.
I will often go down a Norm MacDonald rabbit hole on youtube. His late night appearances, his time on SNL, roasts appearances, stand-ups, and anything he showed up to was gold.
Norm was a master of the joke is in the journey. A king of trolls in the best way possible.
Norm isn't a punchline guy. He's a twist, misdirection or over-your-head guy. He has some great SNL Weekend update compilations.
Exactly, he has punchlines and jokes but the funniest parts are the parts not enunciated as if they were the joke, like "is that who you were asking about, Janice?" 😂
This wasn’t one of those jokes though , this was a straight forward storytelling joke . No twists or turns
His « Albert Fish » story/joke from his podcast show is one of my favorites. He can make you laugh at something your not supposed to laugh at.😂
YAY NORM!!!! I think you've got the right sense of humor for Norm, you're going to love him! There's endless videos to react to.
A while back, gourmet grilled cheese had a moment and there were places that specialized in grilled cheese. So, yes, at the time of the bit, there were cheese sandwich shops. The trend quickly died down, so now, I suspect most such shops are probably in a shallow grave in the woods next to Janice.
Can't understand how the grilled cheese shop couldn't hang on. I mean, how doesn't love a good grilled cheese? Probably the stigma of the Grilled Cheese Slasher doomed the concept.
The cheese sandwich part is just norm’s absurdity. He was not referencing anything real. He was talking straight up American cheese on white bread.
@@matthewdooley7855I can make a grilled cheese at home in less than 10 minutes and for probably 1/10th of what a restaurant would charge.
It is barely above cereal and pb&j on the list of foods ranked by difficulty to prepare.
I can imagine this comment being Norm's exact wording if he was asked about that in person XD
@@jasonmcdaniel345 Well the point of the concept would be that they offer fancier options than what you would commonly make at home. Some pretentious cheese imported from a specific region of france with some bread from italy like focaccia.
The Nonsensical of Norm is his brilliance. He meanders and takes you on a wild journey. Loving Every Minute of the Trip. Watch some of his guess spots on Conan Obrien. Hilarity ensues. Non stop Laughter. 😅😂💛 God Bless him.. Norm!!! 😊
Couldn't agree more!
Some say the outside guy is still outside, waiting for rain or a plane to crash. News is cruel.
This wasnt one of those though , this was a straight forward joke
@@brittreacts
Norm was a devout Christian. It would be amazing if you reacted to these songs Akira The Don made in memory of Norm. (They’re just beats played over Norm speaking)

His last set on letterman is timeless and hilarious!
And showed what a good soul he was. The way Norm thanked Dave is what I would have liked to have thanked Norm before he passed.
I love Norm ❤
You watched the right clip 😂
Janice was found in a shallow grave in the woods. She’s dead 💀 😂
🤣
No, not Janice!!!!
This comment cracked me up way more than it should have. 🤣🤣
thank you for this. Norm will forever be the goat. Rip King
Norm jokes are more about the journey than the destination... 😂
Britt, this comedy gold, just like your reviews.
His Aloholism and his Gay Pride bitts are equally hilarious.
Thanks for well needed laugh today!
"It's true you have that disease, BUT... I think you got the best one."
Norm is all about the journey of the joke.
I'm glad we're going down this road. I love Norm
So glad to see you discovering Norm! Comedy legend, the comedian's comedian and the absolute master of the shaggy dog story (see the many other comments recommending the 'Moth ' joke).
Norm is great!!!! Moth Joke, Alcoholism, Dirty Johnny and Married to a Battle Axe are good ones! Oh, and Professor of Logic!
professor of logic.. wonderfully told
I'm surprised Britt hasn't been exposed to Norm considering her familiarity with SNL. His news anchor skits on SNL were epic.
What I hate is when they say they’re gonna tell you more about a story in the next hour and then they place it all the way at the end of the hour so you have to try to watch the complete news hour to hear about this particular story. I love comedians like Norm Macdonald that have that dry sense of humor. He was very funny.
Norm MacDonald had cornered the market in a kind of Innocent quizzical befuddlement, which actually made that dark turn that he took towards the end of the story, that much more hilarious, because envisioning Norm MacDonald trying to wrap his head around the mindset of a serial killer is simply the height of absurdity.
Norm is my favorite comedian of all time. I was able to see him in Denver for the only about five years ago and he was hilarious. The two people I was with and I gave him a standing ovation when he finished. Norm looked at us with a sincere twinkle in his eye of appreciation for our respect which always surprised me a bit. When I found out that he had been battling cancer for years the look he gave us made sense and made me appreciate the legend even more. RIP.
Norm McDonald with the Fake News on SNL Weekend Update!! Comedy Gold 🌟 🌟 🌟
You’ve taken the first step into a rabbit hole that will change your life. I can tell by the way you appreciate the subtleties of Norm’s humor & delivery that you are on the path to discovering your favorite comedian.
The Norm MacDonald clip that you need to watch is when he was on Conan O’Brien and guest Courtney Thorton Smith. It is hilarious it’s a must see.
It definitely shows how quick his wit was " Chairman of The Bored".
His one with Roshumba is one of the underrated apperances
I truly think you would love his "Frog goes into a bank to ask for a loan" joke. You could even tell it to your kids.
Norm was a constant guest on Conan show. He would always destroy the show in the most hilarious ways. Try the one about Melrose Place. Or any of his OJ Simpson stuff.
Norm was a craftsman.
It is not a word that starts with a vowel, it is actually a word that sounds like a vowel. Hour sounds like "our" which is a vowel sound, so you use "an". If instead you were saying Hero you would use "a" because that sounds like a consonant sound. So, it does not matter what actual letter it starts with, it is the sound it makes, a vowel sound is "an", and a consonant sound is "a"
I'm way late responding, but the term for that is an "aspirated h". Nobody would say "an hat" because the h isn't silent, as it is in "honest". And don't get me started on people who say "an historic"...
Norm has such a unique delivery and sense of humor. Definitely missed in the comedy scene
Beyond hilarious 😂
Oh wow! No worries, most of us will just be excited that you get to experience Norm. Good thing is, you got a LOT of content to cover now!
His SNL compilations are amazing, and of course, any of his stand-up material. This is awesome, I'll definitely be tuning in for more Norm. Easily my favorite comic.
He was great on SNL Weekend Update during the OJ trial. TH-cam has a compilation of them.
I'm no Professor of Logic, but why has no one mentioned that Norm was in fact a 'Deeply Closeted Gay Man'? LOL - Norm is THEE GOAT! He was the master of confusing the audience - the more he confused them, the more Norm liked it🤣He actually would bomb on purpose - he got a kick outta it. His Conan interviews are LEGENDARY - poor Conan knew Norm well, but Norm would still make him corpse in tears!
R.I.P. Norm - the greatest comedy genius - sharp right up to the end💔
The look on Larry Kings face when Norm said that was great. He thought Norm just handed him some breaking news.
@@neptunevinyl FACTS!😂 I wonder if Norm actually realised how much he was loved?
Miss that wry smile and eyes full of mischief…..he was a rare, but extraordinarily amusing gem!💎
I heard he is working on a new netflix special. I cant wait! He is the greatest doing it!
Janice is still strolling in the woods, don't worry about her
She'll come bounding out any day now
Understated, funny, and smart. One of the best SNL News "Anchors", and this story shows some insight into the news business. Morning news intentionally has a short cycle - precisely because every 20 minutes or so, one group goes to work, and another group tunes in. But still prefer longer-format coverage. Back to Norm - Chappelle recognizes talent. Norm often sounded like a guy at the bar who had JUST started really feeling his buzz kick in. Then he drops a nugget like "tyranny of will" to light up a room.
norm was canadian and grew up around a lot of old timers (his dad was old when he was born) so he learned all sorts of idioms, pronunciations, etc. that would be unfamiliar. my grandmother was from ontario and and she would use the same sorts of words, pronunciations and phrases - iron is eyeron, film is fil lem, i've never heard tell of - stuff like that is old british/irish. norm's brother is a journalist at the cbc, he's well known in canada too.
you have to check out his SNL weekend update stuff. he was a genius
Yes PLEASE more Norm. As others have said his Moth joke on conan is brilliant (fun fact he came up with that joke on the spot because conan's other guest wasn't ready so they had to fill for time) his "Alcoholism" bit, and also "Professor Of Logic" is great as well that's on the shorter side at only 4 minutes long so maybe can do the moth joke and professor of logic in one vid
Norm on SNL Weekend Update was pure gold. Back when SNL was funny.
I'm looking forward watching this reaction tonight. Love Norm
Norm came from Quebec City, Canada. A lot of his ways of speaking camr from growing up there.
The Norm rabbit hole is a great one to dive into. He was so unique, that casual way he could talk about outrageous things and smile.
Conan O'Brian TH-cam videos are full of Norm as a guest. He has Conan rolling 😂
You'll love his Weekend Update on SNL. His ruthlessness about OJ Simpson.
Great comedy.
We miss you Norm ❤✨️🌠
A veteran of Saturday Night Live back when it had so many great comedians.
I could never again go back to listening to the news to start my day. What’s funny is I start my day listening to comedy. A lot of Norm Macdonald. You should try it. Your days will be better, I promise.
With Norm the journey is hysterical. It’s not the ending, it’s all the wacky silly stuff along the way. An absolute, one of a kind, simpleton genius.
Im from the UK and never heard of Norm until about 2019, when i found his episode with Stephen Merchant... Funniest thing i had heard in years, and i since have become a big fan and have devoured his stuff on TH-cam, particularly through Covid...Norm was such a funny man, thanks Norm xx
When it comes to Norm there is no wrong clip.
Janice was in the truck serving cheese sandwiches😂
I love Norm. Oh, the thing about "half a hour": If you read the fine print it says, "A" is used before a consonant sound. "An" should be used before a vowel sound. So it's all about the sound. 😊
Norm's brother Neil was actually a newsman. He was a reporter for the CBC for decades.
Lol it was the OJ jokes that took poor ol Norm out 😂
Hahah love it! That was the exact correct clip.
Glad you liked it!
I can't take anymore!
This is the third treatment of Norm MacDonald of yours that I've watched - and the combination of his comedy and your commentary had me belly-laughing and flatulence-passing! I had to pause in the midst of your pause to keep from exploding! And it was a simple story about a lady who disappeared....
David Chappell gave Norm the greatest honor with the Jim Carrey joke. Great delivery.
Norms delivery is second to none, check out his 'bomb' at the comedy Central roast or the aristocrats
Norm is my favorite comedian of all-time. He will be greatly missed.
His SNL weekend update is the best.
She thought it was gonna go somewhere 😂
the 'which is fine nowadays' line is a reference to the stereotype that women who play basketball are lesbians. i think that one went over your head. great reaction as always!
"They have those multicolored balls." I wanna see WNBA with the same damn ball, damn.
They say that over 90% of wnba players are lesbians… and fun fact,
also 90% of the seats in the stands in the arena are
are EMPTY. 😂
i thought it was just a joke about women having the freedom to play sports
@@iN31L He's poking fun at WNBA wanting to be accepted and more popular.
The ridiculous three colored ball is Norms shot at the WNBA.
Lady you are INCREDIBLE!! Never have I seen a woman watch him and actually GET IT!! Norm is GENIE ASS!!! Some of his best is during his interviews like on Conan O'Brien! Great Reaction!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Norm loved words. The whole bit about turning to someone, and the best line imo: "somehow through sheer tyranny of will, she could somehow illuminate a room". RIP Norm. He's the best.
Britt, 2nd best reaction to Norm MacDonald I have ever seen, after of course, as I am sure you have guessed, Frank Stallone.
your world is going to be a better place with Norm in it
I'm new to this channel. And I'm here just for Norm. This is probably the best reaction to Norm I've seen. Thank you.
Norm was notorious for telling these long, drawn-out stories that went absolutely nowhere, but you laugh along the way. He'll always be a favorite of mine for his creativity. Nice reaction ❤
The Moth Joke or his last appearance on David Letterman. Norm was the best.
Norm was absolutely brilliant. He could play up as dumb, but pull it off so intelligently. He would even bomb sets on purpose because he thought it was amusing to do so.
He could take a bad joke, take it on a long meandering trip, and by the end make it hilarious.
I thought he said 1/2 the hour. He was on Late night with Conan a lot. I would look up "The Moth Joke" , or when he just takes over an interview and makes fun of a movie the star is there to promote. (Look up Norm McDonald and Courtney Thorne-Smith) Both are on Conan, and they both show Norm at his most weird and fun.
He was also on David Letterman's last show. (Invited by Dave) He gave a great set, the spent time talking about how he would not have had a career if not for Dave Letterman. David Letterman was his first TV gig that started him on his path. (When Dave was a stand-up comic, he did strange absurd humor as well, and I think he saw a kindred spirit.)
A and an are different forms of the same word, the indefinite article that often precedes a noun. A is used before a noun that starts with a consonant sound (e.g., “s,” “t,” “v”). An is used before a noun that starts with a vowel sound (e.g., “a,” “o,” “i”).
He was definitely the comedian’s comedian. If I were to recommend a next one, I’d like to see you do Norm Macdonald black jokes compilation. Cuz I’m a white boy and I’ll get double the entertainment rewatching it from your honest perspective. Not hatin, just love. Fave interview was on Conan, somebody mentioned it, the melrose place one.
He said where Janice was. She is in her shallow grave... three leaves and a twig. "That doesn't look like Janice anymore. Oh well..." :)
His clip on Conan with Courtney Thorton Smith is one of the funniest clips. Norm would always mess up Conan interviews. Good stuff!!!
He was an all time great. His SNL Weekend Updates were GOLD.
Not to self: listen to more norm mcdonald, until you get this refrence
So many great Norm videos out there. “Norm Loses His Sponsors” is one of many worth reaction.
Half an Hour ... You are correct about vowels, but this also applies to soft consonants. For example, we stay at a Hotel (hard "H"), but we have to wait half an hour (soft "H", which means the word 'hour' sounds like 'our'). The same applies to consonants such as 'M', which has an eM sound, so we say I want an M&M, not a M&M.
What’s amazing to me is that he is making us laugh for 10 minutes straight, all the while talking about kidnapping, rape and murder! He just so smart and sweet.😊❤
Norm is one of the GOATS. Gotta check out more of his stuff
This is my absolute favorite comic and bit.
Sometimes it's the journey not the destination
Please more norm especially his stuff as a guest on Conan's talk show. "Moth joke" "Norms wife is a Battle axe" and more
One thing I love about this bit is....the audience pretty much is able to guess what Norm is going to say before he says it...right up until the end with the "deep grave" part lol. I think most people believe he is going to say "shallow grave". But I could be wrong.
I also love how relatable the joke is but then turns to something you can't relate to ...like stalking and plotting murder lol. Norm just walks the audience from a safe subject into the mind of a "psycho sexual sadist" and no one really sees it coming.
Norm has so many great jokes and podcast moments, and other comedians/famous people have stories about Norm that are just as funny and wild.
"and do that thing that makes me feel like God!" 😂
English has french incluences from the Norman conquest of England. In french, the H is silent and we still say an 'our. Norm enunciates the h so the a is appropriate though it goes against grammar Norms. Love ya Norm
I would never killed a lady in cold blood😂😂😂😂 not many people notice that part or talk about it but there’s like 20 different angles to that part, that part is so funny but also so intricate and complicated that it doesn’t fetch laughter but kind of tricks the crowd who in majority for the ones laughing , they’re all reacting diffently at the multiple angles of that part with the same result, laughter! And it’s not even a punch line! Just brilliant
Hour may start with an H- but the H is silent so the word hour is like it’s a vowel SOUND. Comedians practice their jokes and are very meticulous about every word they use. It’s like a magic show, and THE TRICK is to make it seem like they are telling the jokes for the first time 😉
The stories from Norms friends about him are hilarious!!
Norm is My favorite comedian ever, also Patrice O'Neal.
bro, god damn i died when he said "take her to a remote area. An area most known for it's remoteness" hahaha
Norm delivers 101. Constructs a highway to his mind lol
He said Janice was found in a shallow grave. Thats why he went into everything the way he did because these serial Kllrs get hasty at the end and he would have a deeper grave 😂
I didn't hear him say that. He said when people go missing in the woods they are always found in one place, a shallow grave. Never heard him say that Janice specifically was found in a shallow grave.
I think not knowing what happened to Janice is intentional, a part of the bit.
I'm so glad you pointed out the "half a hour" line. Because, it is indeed the correct way to say it.
That's Norm . You'll never know where Janice is . But you'll remember alway a deep grave😅
The “an” rule works before a word that starts, OR SOUNDS, (is spoken) as if it were a vowel. That’s also why we naturally say a sentence such as “give me AN N” with the “an” when N is clearly not a vowel lol this is because it’s spoken with a soft E sound at the beginning. Works for numbers as well, “give me an 8,” this example using a hard A sound at the beginning 👍🏻
Norm made you a deeper person. He was always playing 4D chess. He was as much philosopher as comedian. Norm was a master craftsman who forced you to think or react to finding out his joke wasn't for you but rather you were the joke. He was kind and an ass. His feud with Chris Katan was awesome. He'd love to make you laugh but he was just as happy making you groan or even cringe. You have to watch his standup to get a better idea of who he was. His late night appearances were never intended for the audience. He did it for the the host or for the meme and he did them long before memes were a thing. You can also check out his battle with the View. There's nobody like him. Even the way he left us was epic. RIP Norm.
That's the beauty of the joke. Kept you entertained
