Since My wife was a fan of Robert Redford, we went to see "Out of Africa" starring Meryl Streep shortly after we got married. It's more than 35 years ago. It was impressive that Denys Finch Hatton (Robert Redford) played the second movement of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto on the gramophone in the African grasslands. The subtle tunes, whether in major or minor, sad or happy, represent the character of Dennis who refused to live in the city, and this is only the heavenly beautiful song in this scene. Unfortunately I know the instrument used in the movie would not have been a basset clarinet.
Gracias.
@@spartacus6254 By the way, E is a MAJOR third higher than C, not a minor third. Also, the original post never referred to this as a "bass" clarinet, but correctly mentioned "basset" clarinet. However, thanks for your comment.
If the reason she couldn't join the Berliner Philharmoniker was because she was a woman, this performance with Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra is ironic. There were many female players in other Japanese orchestras those days, but no women in this symphony orchestra around 1990. Anyway, her clarinet sound is mesmerizing. Anyone would envy her!
Woww someone is trying to catch the bus or something. Never heard this concerto played so fast before not even from Sabine and she usully takes insane tempos when she plays this concerto.
Hardly gets better than this! Clean, technically "perfect", musical! But had to move my eyes away from the video for all that weaving & swaying Sabine does (which I do, too, when performing on the clarinet, unfortunately). And I don't like the white "doctor" outfit (which BTW says nothing about the beauty of her performance), but "Czech" out the Czech recording with beautiful Sharon Kam & Czech orchestra.
Wow ! All that body movements are making me dizzy. Do we really need all that ? Come on Sabine, calm down. I guess, judging from her doctor’s gown, it should be circa when Princess Diana first married Charles.
Sandro Lee Well we musicians are doctors for the soul if youre judging a white dress... Do we really need all that movement? Yes because after all art its expression and music its the art of well combining the sounds and time. Think that music wasnt made for the eyes. It was made to be listened.
Wind instruments require extremely subtle BREATHING and breath control. This is a basset clarinet, so it is even a bigger challenge to play than the regular clarinet.
Sabine is so good. Just brilliant tone and clarity. One of my favorite musicians. Great piece this concerto, too!
Extraordinária executante de Clarinete. Uma sonoridade maravilhosa e uma técnica espetacular. Muitos PARABÉNS DE PORTUGAL
Thanks once again for the Musical GENIUS 🎼 of MOZART ❤❤❤❤👏👍🇬🇧
Oh, it`s a beautiful sound.
I am touched by Sabine Meyer`s Clarinet performence.
Praticamente un capolavoro. Tutto molto bello. Tanti complimenti alla bravissima clarinettista nonche' solista.
her consistently gorgeous tone and artistry astounds me. I dont care what she wears or how her body dances when she plays.
Thank You Sabine. Your performances are always one of my favorites:)
Extraordinaria mujer, su tecnica angelical !
Oh. It.s. A. Beautiful. Sound. I.a,m. Touched.

Brabo brabisima Sabina
My 1st time viewing.
BRAVO, BRAVO, SABINE - MAGNIFICENT CLARINET PLAYING WITH SUCH A RICH LOWER REGISTER AND THAT CLARINET LOOKS QUITE COMPLEX. BRAVO AGAIN
WOW VERY NICE
It's a bitch to play the thumb lowest register keys but rtewarding, aah the LOW tones & smooth long runs (no repeated swoops)!
BRAVO. BRAVO. SABINE. TAKE. A BOW. 🦋🦋😍😜WELL. DONE. AND. BRAVO. AGAIN. LOVE. IZZY. FROM NANNY. MCPHEE. 🎃🎃
Favorite run of the piece!! 6:46
I like how the camera tries a close-up on the instrument but she swirls around too much to get a good shot.

which year is this recording?

Carina bella ciao 8:15
A flying Angel. My desire is to kiss her!
I keep thinking how it would be possible, in Mozart's time, to perform a concerto like this with rudimentary instruments, without keys
2ter Satz im Tempo ?????
Woww someone is trying to catch the bus or something. Never heard this concerto played so fast before not even from Sabine and she usully takes insane tempos when she plays this concerto.
Why does she sound like she's in such a rush?
Klarinetttistisch absolut souveren aber .........rummgezappele

The video posting at the VERY LOWEST resolution is just awful to look at!
Sabine still better.
Sure check out the Czech recording if you prefer better vedio, but I sure prefer Sabine.

thats not her fault, that’s the poor camera job with all the weird zoom ins
Nope, it was later.. in early 80s Rico Saccani didn't conduct this orchestra, he was just starting his career as conductor, he was a pianist first
Long Ass clarinet 😎
