I can’t believe that Cannavaro actually won the Ballon Dor in 2006 impressive feat for him considering the fact that he’s a defender and the last defender to win this prestigious individual award. In a world where attackers get all the praise, he was seen as the best player in the world that year mainly with how good he was was for Italy at the World Cup when they won the whole tournament with a solid record defensively. Italy are on another level when it comes to producing legendary defenders and that’s what makes the beautiful game of football seeing this country produce elite players in defense and he had a stellar career for club and country. As a defender obviously height matters but back in the day before modern football evolved where defenders have to be able to progress with the ball at feet, his defending was an art and he did it the old school way.
The thing is I saw the match where messi went up against him and to be honestly fair they were pretty matched like messi would dribble past him sometimes but not be able to score and cannavaro would get a goal line clearence. I have seen very few players stop messi like that
Cannavaro won also 2 Italian championship playing in Juventus, the picture you show with Coppa Italia Trophy isn't him, but his brother, he won 2 Coppa Italia playing in Parma, not in Napoli
Overrated. Never won the champions league or Serie A. His 2 Italian titles were removed due to Juventus cheating. Saw every match he played at Madrid and while good I wouldn't put him among the best defenders at Madrid.
