The lyrics were actually pretty straight forward the verses were what the guy had told the girl in the past when they broke up. And the chorus were what her thoughts and her reaction to those words. It's boys classic excuse when they want to break up "it's not you it's me.", "I need to search myself", or "you are too good for me, I think you deserve someone better."
