I don’t consider myself a huge feminist or anything, but as a musician I’ve got a lot of respect for people who get out there and express themselves regardless of how many people say “no, you can’t do that”. And in many ways she opened the doors for many of my favorite female artists and I think she’s one of the most important figures in modern music history.

It doesn’t just fall out of the sky it takes years and years of practice and countless hours fine tuning you songs until they’re perfect, so what someone is like “no you can’t play that, it’s too explicit or whatever” it’s like, look, here’s the deal, I’ve got something to say and I’m going to say it. Now, you can walk away, wear earplugs, roll around on the ground kicking and screaming but this IS going to happen. I’ve worked too hard and come to far to just give up because you say no.
