    The crazy long solo with most of the notes on the white keys sounded so so good. I know how hard it is to be accurate when you don't have a lot of black keys in a long run like that and he crushed it. Wow. Reminds me of Teddy Brown

    watching that university group perform makes me so happy... i love those somewhat smaller percussion pieces and i want to go to college sooo bad and be able to perform more stuff like that !!

      That was one of the reasons that made me sign up to percussion in college too! You'll love it 🥳

    Hey just found this channel. I'm a mallet player and I love the advice you give regarding the marimba techniques with the upstroking and playing palms up instead of thumbs up (French grip). My techs always tell me this and it's cool to see you talking about this in your video! Keep it up!!!

    Hey everyone! Thank you so much Adam for reviewing my tape! In terms of the snare grip I had the right grip in practice but I guess I was just stressed out so I went to a more drumset grip lmao, either way, I'll definitely apply what you talked about!

      @@JacobMillerDrums, you played really well man! What I would recommend with the Timpani playing is to have a looser grip to the point where you can basically have someone come and just pull them out of your hands. Will make a nicer and fuller sound. Another thing I would recommend is to try and lift your mallets back up after you play, so focus less on the down and more than the down. Will make more of a nicer sound.
      Still played really well though.
      Also if you're wondering, I'm studying a Bachelor of Music at UTAS.

    I feel like a lot of the technique/hand issues you brought up in the first video would be instantly fixed by having gear at the right height for his body/lowering himself. The marimba especially could probably come up about 4 inches. Sitting behind the timps would help some too. Really solid playing, though! Snare grip especially was very relaxed.

    • @AdamTanPercussion
      @AdamTanPercussion  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly lowering himself would help too yes!

    I know for timpani most use French grip over in the US

      I don't know if the french grip was intentional though since the snare and mallet grip was also very turned out. And it looked very stiff for a french grip. To me, french grip should feel more like stevens, very relaxed.

    Question for the discord: I'm a violinist but I'm interested in joining your discord. Are you open for a string musician? Or is it percussion only?
