Let me know down below if you'd list any of the pieces I listed differently. I know it's always going to be about personal preference at the end anyway... unless it's my good friend ✨ mellow after the pain ✨ OKAY SORRY P.S. Sorry for the late uploads recently - this is my third attempt at uploading an episode that DIDN'T get incorrectly copyright claimed in the last two weeks... #TheStudioFamily
Hi Adam! Two things - 1) You have Rotations 1 & 4, but I am curious where you'd put 2 & 3. 2) I'd like to see a video of you ranking your own pieces in context of aspiring student to aspiring professional, and give a little context around each piece including your influences on each as well as inspiration for them.
Great Video! Thanks Adam. Video Suggestion: This might be more nerdy or for a smaller audience but I’d also love to see a tier list for marimba/keyboard perc. concertos
Adam - Videos like this are so helpful and insightful. Just wondering if you might give your tier ranking to a couple of 4.3 pieces you mention in other videos... "Abaca" - Guillaume Le Picard, Rotation II (I assume it is also Tier B), "Marimba Dances" - Ross Edwards. Just wondering where these three from your 2017 "Top 10 4.3" rank on the list now, or if they are totally bumped off!!!
Oooooh Yes Adam! You should play Variations on Japanese Children Songs then make a student vs professional video with you against me. P.S. If you forgot, I went to Marimbafest this year and I played it too :) Oh and my guess for the 5th piece of the big 5 is Dances of Earth and Fire by Peter Klatzow
Hahaha I have a feeling your video would be better than mine! Your performance was amazing! And ooooh good guess! Maybe not that piece but the klatzow is a banger too haha
@@AdamTanPercussion Hahaha Thank you ! My teacher just gave me Northern Lights to play for next year and I probably will play it at 2022 Marimbafest :) P.S. I hope the prizes for Marimbafest next year will be your new signature mallets !!
(sees “Yellow After the Rain”) Me: Ah shit. Here we go again. (SPOILER) Adam: D Tier. Me: I knew it. I’m not mad at you Adam btw I don’t really like YAtR either
@@AdamTanPercussion Ever since hearing you accidentally calling it “Yellow After the Pain”, I’ve come up with something even better. “Mellow After the Pain”
I am looking to get a marimba for my house. I have been playing xylophone for marching band and want to learn marimba and get better. I am looking at the marimbas online and there are so many options any marimbas you would recommend? My budget it like max 4,000 dollars but hopefully under 3,000 and I would like it to be 4 octaves or more
I have to agree with the several people that Marimba D'Amore is the fifth big piece! Also, I largely agree with your list though I feel Virgina Tate is a much more beautiful piece than you give it credit for.
I'm undecided! I used to think it was Marimba d'amore, but maybe there's something that deserves to be up there too that is similarly epic (Lemuria maybe?)

2 and 3 probably the same as 1 and 4, they're all similar :) and thanks for the idea!

sea refractions and yellow after the rain, 2 pieces probably every first year university student has played and a good reason they are d tier.
Hahaha the 'rites of passage'
Hey Adam, where would you rank Steve Gwin's The True Lover's Farewell? I'm currently learning it right now and enjoy the motif 😊
What an awesome list! 👏😎
You should do percussion ensemble pieces next
Definitely keen!
I highly recommend you react to the 2019 Blue Devils GhostLight xylophone cam
Just performed Parody last week and looking for my next one. Thinking about Odessa, how would that rank?
(sees “Yellow After the Rain”)
Me: Ah shit. Here we go again.
(SPOILER)
Adam: D Tier.
Me: I knew it.
I’m not mad at you Adam btw I don’t really like YAtR either
Hahahahahaha perfect explanation

Hey Adam, what about Attraction?

if i see it right, i think “rhythm dance” was actually rhythmic caprice, which is probably why you didn’t know it :)

What would you rate Nocturnal Dance by Jesse Monkman?
The fifth piece is Marimba d'Amor 😏
I did consider this too 🤭
@@AdamTanPercussion btw, for me Lemuria should be on the "big pieces" list, it has so much colours, styles
@@filippkarandeev139 Yesss I wish Lemuria got more recognition too! Defs A tier for me
Could the 5th piece be MONOVALENCE I for marimba?
Libra tango
Might the fifth piece be Odessa?
Mmmm I would put Odessa in A or B tier... 5th piece would be maybe something more like Marimba d'amore haha
Fifth piece Niflheim?
Hey Adam! Check out the xylophonist Teddy Brown sometime. He's insane!
What is the fifth piece of the big 5?
I'm undecided! I used to think it was Marimba d'amore, but maybe there's something that deserves to be up there too that is similarly epic (Lemuria maybe?)
see ya thursday
Where would you rank Michi by Keiko Abe?
A tier :)
Ney Rosauro and Orlando Cotto dont get any love. 😢
