Very interesting, this sheds light on the failings of modern Democracy’s beautifully.Algorithms, social media, too many people with no clue and all that stuff
I agree with Lawrence on the importance of education. As we are seeing, a deep and continuous process of learning on the part of our entire human family is the key and only hope of our progress and survival. A revolutionary educational paradigm must be created and applied based on a new mindset. Learning is for everyone. Knowledge is not a commodity, but a human resource and the source of all human potential. Furthermore, we need the abolition of the slavery of the human mind. Ignorance on a planetary scale is the deadly beast we must assail. Conceals itself in vacant minds then suck the life out of our kind. No greater pathogen exists. Ignorance deforms, devours, persists.
I agree that education is important and the fact of it seems to me practically self evident. However, "key and only hope of our progress and survival" may not be enough. Here's why I hold that view... I find the Bicameral theory most compelling. It proposes (compressing a 400 page book into a single paragraph) that modern consciousness arose in humanity during a one thousand year span beginning about three thousand years ago. The theory states that, before three thousand years ago, the human psyche lacked a self concept. This lack deprived them of the ability to create a control system that could manage the social complexity that arose whenever population began to exceed about a million members and they collapsed back into tribal communities in the surrounding countryside. This rise and fall of civilization repeated again and again until particular circumstances (involving the invention of writing) gave birth to self consciousness. And so here we are, two thousand years later, living in an extraordinarily successful global civilization with a population approaching eight billion (albeit with a few large groups of retards scattered about). What I'm suggesting is that we might be in need of another transformative leap in consciousness that will enable us to better manage eight, nine or ten billion people in a way that will conduce to our collective survival. I can already see a change in the psyches of those who appear to be addicted to networked cell phone technology. The thing that worries me though, I don't believe we have time for a series of failed experiments like the pre-biblical folks enjoyed. In short, we seem to be in need of a new mode of consciousness. And then there's AI to consider...
@@epistemologicaldespair68 No. The theory suggests that, everywhere the discovery of agriculture converted nomads into civilizations, the structure and dynamics of those civilizations came about as a direct consequence of the bicameral mentality of the people. Bicameral means their mentality consisted of two minds with different purposes, one in each side of the brain. You can read the theory here... s-f-walker.org.uk/pubsebooks/pdfs/Julian_Jaynes_The_Origin_of_Consciousness.pdf I found it to have more explanatory power than anything I've ever encountered on the topic of the conscious. And bonus, it's perfectly clear with not a hint of magic. Enjoy you will, I hope.
I deeply despise any man who say people should be fined for refusing to validate a deeply corrupt and murderous system like the modern nation state by the pitiful act of voting.
Right... but the opposite of that (of voting I mean) is to validate an even worse system where the man or party in power stays there forever. I fail to see how not voting will make things better instead of worse. And he explained his reasons for saying that quite well in this video.
@@El3ctr0Lun4 Refusing to participate in a system based on coercive force is not the same as validating all other forms of systems based on coercive force.
Thank you for a wonderful opportunity to hear two great minds get straight to the point. Why are the contributors wearing headphones? They are sitting opposite each other. Some thoughts on democracy: -The word is not contained in the constitution or any of the state constitutions. The US is supposed to be a republic, but is in actuality a national security state. -What Plato said about democracy is true, and in many ways is what most western countries have today. -The idea of separation of powers is a farce, and why do you suppose the "founding fathers" could not have come up with a better system of checking on government? After all, most of them had very high IQ's. -Maybe accepting a system built on the use of force and a two party system is the problem. It has led to the most corrupt of systems where politicians are all millionaires parroting what they think people want to hear in public, and passing laws that oppress behind closed doors. -I don't accept the authoritarian governments of the world. I never agreed to any contract that was written by rich white guys 250 years ago, and I have never signed anything. -What is it that people think is so different between Trump and Obama? Other than completely different personalities, policy-wise they are just about identical. -Why do you say congress is "paralyzed" when it comes to budgets? This is the one area where both parties agree whole-heartedly to spend, spend, spend, tax, tax, tax. They also agree on any law that oppresses, restricts and criminializes the greatest number of people. -Don't hurt people and don't take their stuff. #Voluntaryism
_"I don't accept the authoritarian governments of the world. I never agreed to any contract that was written by rich white guys 250 years ago, and I have never signed anything."_ Well you are right to say this, none of us agreed to these old contracts, we were just born into these already founded societies. But that's why democracy is important, or at least a type of society where we can express our opinions and be able to propose changes, because we should recognize that we shouldn't exist in a totalitarian dictatorship where we have no say in regards to how our society should function. _"What is it that people think is so different between Trump and Obama?"_ They are both on the conservative spectrum, and I'm saying this as an European. I think Grayling agrees that American politics are skewed towards the right. It's just that Trump is a much more divisive person than Obama ever was, much worse in terms of diplomacy too, as he's been burning bridges with other world leaders. But you're right, in terms of policies, there isn't that much difference.
With a television you don't have to be supernatural. God prefer that because it's more social but we have to use it correctly. Right now we have anarchy blindness. Despite the anarchy blindness I figured it out. That proves we can be God like. Only a person getting crucified would suspect something greater. They crucified me with exact same disease that in Pink Floyd the wall. Victor said it's all good. It should be possible to make everything all good.
ᕙ (° ~͜ʖ~ °) ᕗ Natural selection is the character flaw in evil that is integrity is more important than life otherwise evolution is tragic circumstances with nothing intelligent happening. These guys have but a nAive view of what politics is, mistaking the face of what gets called politics for the political ‘nomos’ of our time. That they are cast as sages is depressing and explains why collectively we are probably doomed.

Dear Lawrence, Again you demonstrate, that you really should stick to the sciences you know and understand. You are such a delight to listen to on your home turf. Unfortunately you fail so miserably when you dig up people who try and make themselves experts in areas they haven't the faintest idea about. This guy does not understand the consequences of Brexit. And so, he twists the reality to fit his "I know better" agenda. You have done it with Chomsky a number of times, and now this philosopher. Well... Answer this, Lawrence: Why does this philosopher not reflect on the obvious question: "What makes him think, that moving decisions FURTHER away from the individual - like from UK Parliament to the EU - would INCREASE democracy and respect for the individual? - He has just made reasonable points of challenges with democracy, and then skips directly to: "Leaving the EU is a bad thing!" really???? - not a very reflective fellow.
Yes he is against brexit as a bad policy and argues that the decision to proceed with brexit was democratically suspect but not that staying in the EU itself promotes democracy.
Watching this guy, he comes across as an empty moron, but with a massive self-believe of his own intellectual superiority. It's just a super-weird interview.
If you love the universe the birds will make you mentally ill so you fight with the environment to make it intelligent. Your supposed to make the environment intelligent so no God needed. God has been liberated and he is fully capable of evolving himself without any help. God don't want your worship he just wants to get married. Royal weddings is most watched thing on television. We fixed the video and audio for best experience possible. Cameras are supernatural and all of them captured 3D. The audio loud don't make violence so has depth. Nobody has to buy anything for it to work.
A fascinating conversation but I'm afraid they do hold science in a little too high regard. Science falls fowl of all the same misconceptions as religion. Do you think 9 out 0f 10 Scientists recommend is an endorsement that carries any weight or is as hollow as the promise of God's good graces? It's nice to think people are considered, rational and thoughtful but for the most part, people are not interested in thinking any deeper than their immediate needs. If you put a guy in a lab coat to sell a product in an advert then science will mislead people just the same as any religion, the problem is in people, any philosophy can be used for good or bad effect.
@@the_Rade Wow, must have been pretty high when I wrote that lengthy Opinion. I think the point I was aiming for was that Science and religion can be used the same way to mislead people. Beware the snake oil seller :-) People have the option to check facts but they don't, Mostly they will just find the person who's saying what they want to hear and quote them.
The pre referendum 'experts' were proven wrong. And it wasn't difficult to understand that they would be because economic forecasts are rarely correct and these particular ones were clearly politically motivated. Grayling shouldn't talk about the importance of people being informed and then make the ludicrous claim that the economy has tanked.
But it has tanked, the currency dropped significantly and hasn't yet recovered, just have a look at the currency graph for the last 10 years: www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=GBP&to=EUR&view=10Y. And besides, why THE FUCK should we not listen to experts, hmm? Who else should we listen to, random populists?
Seems to me (a 'colonial') that, although the world has changed, the superiority delusion integral to creation of the British Empire has echoed down the generations with enough inertia to find Brexit biting England in the ass (lending a smidge of credence to the karma concept). (I have near a dozen cousins in England and am perfectly aware of the foolishness that seeks an accounting in the children for the sins of the fathers. But we don't make our selves, we are made by our culture and if within our culture there is a poison to that extent we will suffer).

Ignorance on a planetary scale
is the deadly beast we must assail.
Conceals itself in vacant minds
then suck the life out of our kind.
@@REDPUMPERNICKEL is this the same theory that speculates the last of these “non-self” people were the Minoans ?
@@epistemologicaldespair68 No. The theory suggests that, everywhere the discovery of agriculture converted nomads into civilizations, the structure and dynamics of those civilizations came about as a direct consequence of the bicameral mentality of the people. Bicameral means their mentality consisted of two minds with different purposes, one in each side of the brain.
You can read the theory here...

I found it to have more explanatory power than anything I've ever encountered on the topic of the conscious.
And bonus, it's perfectly clear with not a hint of magic.

I deeply despise any man who say people should be fined for refusing to validate a deeply corrupt and murderous system like the modern nation state by the pitiful act of voting.
You're a fucking moron
Right... but the opposite of that (of voting I mean) is to validate an even worse system where the man or party in power stays there forever. I fail to see how not voting will make things better instead of worse. And he explained his reasons for saying that quite well in this video.

simple fact- the rich rule the poor.
Some thoughts on democracy:
-The word is not contained in the constitution or any of the state constitutions.
I never agreed to any contract that was written by rich white guys 250 years ago, and I have never signed anything."_
Well you are right to say this, none of us agreed to these old contracts, we were just born into these already founded societies. But that's why democracy is important, or at least a type of society where we can express our opinions and be able to propose changes, because we should recognize that we shouldn't exist in a totalitarian dictatorship where we have no say in regards to how our society should function.
_"What is it that people think is so different between Trump and Obama?"_
They are both on the conservative spectrum, and I'm saying this as an European. I think Grayling agrees that American politics are skewed towards the right. It's just that Trump is a much more divisive person than Obama ever was, much worse in terms of diplomacy too, as he's been burning bridges with other world leaders. But you're right, in terms of policies, there isn't that much difference.
agree
With a television you don't have to be supernatural. God prefer that because it's more social but we have to use it correctly. Right now we have anarchy blindness. Despite the anarchy blindness I figured it out. That proves we can be God like. Only a person getting crucified would suspect something greater. They crucified me with exact same disease that in Pink Floyd the wall. Victor said it's all good. It should be possible to make everything all good.

Dear Lawrence,
Again you demonstrate, that you really should stick to the sciences you know and understand.

Wtf are you talking about...
@@the_Rade Wow, must have been pretty high when I wrote that lengthy Opinion. I think the point I was aiming for was that Science and religion can be used the same way to mislead people.
