Williams was the first major anchor I have heard who seemed to understand that this is happening over more than racism. System problem, very longstanding and related to economic conditions.

God is just a bad idea, as Cornell pointed out, the religion of Pilot. People all around the world claim this god or that god and this demon and that demon. All I see on this planet is good and bad humans. People have to decide for themselves, do they wish to be a force for good or a force for bad and Jesus has nothing to do with it. Humans decide their fate, not a god character from a story told thousands of years ago. We just have gullible humans who pretend their own reality, which goes against the black community every single time. Religion is a spoke on the wheel of corruption. Trump is president because abortion. Because simple minded folks are too stupid to realize abortion laws only affect poor mostly black women. Wealthy folks can drive or fly to a state that has humanity in mind and not Jesus to get an abortion. It is only poor folks stuck with a larger family than they can support. Politicians are smarter than religious folks, they know abortion laws don't touch them or their families. Wealthy folks can vote for these politicians and know the stupid people will be so happy about the abortion laws, they won't see all the stuff that takes away from themselves. Religious folks always vote against their own interests pretending Jesus would be happy with their voting. There is nothing impressive about humans who pretend a god is real, in fact it's just the opposite. The people who are impressive are humanists and concerned about taking care of their fellow humans, not some pretend tortured to death Jew who allegedly controls this planet with god magic. We have uneducated humans who don't seem to grow up mentally and are stuck in the religious stories of their childhood. The god idea is dead, let's talk about our future.

@@thomastucker5686 We all have the freedom to seek guidance for ourselves. My personal definition on god does not align with what white people run around preaching. I am a white person who understands how deep the systemic cultural roots of oppression run, most of which have roots in christianity and organized religion. I also believe that through my own understanding of god that we are all interconnected and that we all affect one another. Real change starts when every individual chooses greater understanding for themselves and then takes the responsibility to make those changes. I absolutely believe that we all choose our own fate but also know that the hardest challenge is to hold each other accountable.

@Joseph Johnson Cornel West seems to be pretty forthcoming about his political views. If he was an anarchist as your reference to Emma Goldman implies, I have no doubt that he would just come out and say it. His penchant for clarity and transparency leaves little room to think that he is deceptive in that regard.
Additionally, anarchy itself, though often dismissed and irrationally perceived as some immediate, chaotic, and violent dismantling of a nation's political, social, economic, cultural institutions etc., is reductive at best. Chomsky’s On Anarchism dispels that notion by suggesting that anarchism is a principled vision of a politico-social landscape in which institutions need to justify their authority and existence to the people they subordinate and serve. In this context, the people have the right and authority to dismantle and rebuild if institutions are not functioning for the benefit of the community. He also goes on to criticize and dismiss the idea of anarchy equating to a push for the immediate dismantling of all institutions as outlandish. To this point, he asserts:
“In my opinion, the immediate goal of even committed anarchists should be to defend some state institutions, while helping to pry them open to more meaningful public participation...There are practical problems of tomorrow on which peoples lives depend and while defending these kinds of [structures] is by no means the ultimate end we should be pursuing, in my view, we still have to face the problems that are right on the horizon and which seriously affect human lives. I don’t think those things can simply be forgotten because they might not fit within some radical slogan that reflects a deeper vision of a future society…I think that it is completely realistic and rational to work within structures to which you are opposed…if you just want to be pure and say, “I’m against power, period,” well okay, say, “I’m against the federal government.” But that’s just to divorce yourself from any human concerns in my view. And I don’t think that’s a reasonable stance for an anarchist or anyone to take”.
Even if West was an anarchist, he is on record many times saying that he will vote for Biden even though the democratic nominee is a lot of the same. Thus his would-be anarchist leanings are neither deceptive nor anything to be feared because they are much in line with Chomsky's principled, long term, rational, and workable vision of social change, a view that acknowledges the importance of participating now in the current structures we do have.

America has not transgressed into a "dictatorship police state" quite yet. But, even if it had, you misunderstand how we got here. It was not at all democracy that led to this outcome. Not even close. No, this is the evolved form of a corporate oligarchy.
It is not a secret that corporations have an unreasonable amount of influence and control over the government through their corporate lobbying and campaign financing of both major parties, alongside full control of the corporate media's narrative, which amounts to corporate propaganda being dispersed 24/7 out into a public full of individuals who were taught, not how to think critically or interpret information efficiently for themselves, but rather how to obey authority and mindlessly absorb claims being presented to them as "facts." The purpose of the public school system is to prepare students for a future career, NOT to be a competent voter or member of society at large. That is by design, you see. The system, as it currently exists, is not an accident. This is a business strategy. The corporate puppetmasters in control of our politicians don't want critical thinkers undermining their power, because then they wouldn't be able to get away with using OUR tax money for THEIR bailouts every time THEY and their handful of greedy friends make a mistake and ruin the economy for everyone else, just because they want to gamble on high-risk decisions that ultimately endanger the livelihoods of everyone underneath them, potentially rippling out into other areas of the economy!
Oh, and you brought up division. Very good. Let's talk about how, even despite the indisputable fact that billionaires and corporations have the privilege of choosing which candidates the public is allowed to even pick from (along with the privilege of setting the narrative and manufacturing consent to the establishment), nothing ever seriously gets done about any of the demands made for change. Now, let me ask you, have you seen any major corporations trying to capitalize off of their "support" for Black Lives Matter or Pride Month recently? If so, and if they support equal rights like they claim to, then why don't they just fund the politicians who would do something about the problem? Oh, that's right! They don't care! They pretend to care for a profit, but the reality is that identity groups are just a tool of marketing to them and nothing more. It isn't profitable for them to do anything about it. They LIKE the division! It is very good for business! They have the full power to do something, but they don't. And they never will.

Education is your ticket to rise above for all our brothers and sisters in our Great Nation. That said have any of you stepped foot into our school systems lately? Morgan Freeman played an inner city high school principal in crisis in the movie "Lean on Me". At the time the Morgan Freeman movie aired the crisis schools were limited to a few inner city schools, but more and more our schools are roting from the inside out all over America. Teachers are frustrated and leaving in droves. Students throw a fit and trash classrooms. Back when I went to school you had to show teachers respect and if you got out of line you got paddled HARD WITH A WOODEN PADDLE!! If you misbehaved at school, you got paddled at school and faced worse at home! Try to teach without any attention span or respect for the teacher!
All American brothers and sisters we need to take back our education system its been deteriorating for decades. If a student acts up punish him. Has anyone gone to the grocery store lately? The twenty something checkers can't put a sentence together to save their life, and they can't perform basic math.

Fix the schools NOW but this doesnt happen with GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION and $$ ( although schools need adequate resources to teach) it requires us TO BECOME BETTER PARENTS!! Do what my parents did for me, READ TO YOUR CHILDREN as soon as they can speak. Take them to a church, synagogue, or mosque. Make your children work outside helping older people, or handicapped people. Love your neighbors, all your neighbors regardless of color or cultural backgrounds, this is what my parents taught me!!

This is the best reflection of the situation, much better than Dr. West, who didn’t bring solutions to the table. You have brought the solution and democracy can flourish when we study enough to bring intelligent analysis and solutions. Read to your children, love and help your neighbors. But the school system fails us. If people were educated about races and cultures at a young age. Black kids grow up with an inferiority complex and whites grow up with a superiority complex. Black kids don't even know about African kingdoms like nubia, mail, great Zimbabwe, they think that slavery is the start of their history.

My grandparents grew up in Bessemer, Alabama fairly poor white family in a predominantly black community and last I check Birmingham in over 90% black. My grandfather worked side by side as a working man along side a predominantly black work crew at a steel mill.
I stand by my educational views. We have to improve our school systems, provide equal opportunities for the best and the brightest, and improve our communities. I teach at a private school and we do alot of service projects for the community.
All we can do is our best. In the end we have to critically look at ourselves and try to become part of the solution and not part of the problem. Suggestion... If you understand some African history offer to come in and give a talk to students!! Teach them what you know! I have guest speakers all the time.

When your house is broken into like mine was, you call the police. The first thing the police in Huntsville ,Alabama asked me was for my I.D.. They check the victim for a warrant . Unpaid traffic ticket, you the victim of any crime are going to jail. That keeps people from calling the police and then they handle that themselves which leads to more violence. They do that so they can keep their cities crime statistics down. The poor that have no money are not only a victim of the first crime, but the second crime that is just being poor. I've seen this over and over in many cities. Why is this not talked about????

The way he talks is like poetry, weaving metaphors in with everyday truth and heartaches...I LOVE the idea of us all being brother and sisters in this fight together, and I also love how he mentioned people of all genders and sexual orientations, all colors, all backgrounds, everything...what an amazing man. Bernie Sanders held in 2019-20 as he campaigned to educate the nation about the need for 1) MedicareFor All/Universal Health Care, 2) a $15 fed minimum wage, 3) free tuition at public colleges and universities. 4) combating climate change before it becomes too late to do so! ETC. West and Sanders have worked together for years, including with others--both established and up-and-comers in their fields--to combat the most important, most challenging issues facing our nation.
No surprise, most of the substantive panels, roundtables, rallies, etc., (all with First Class participants in addition to Bernie, sometimes joined by West) received little...if any...main street media coverage. I've finally decided the Sanders communications/press staff must be at least partly responsible...that they simply must not be making timely, persuasive contact with the press in most of the programs' locations. Both men are national treasures, and the nation deserved to/needed to hear them and the other strong participants. It truly was maddening that the programs were all-too-often not covered at all. Still, Bernie has continued to host the educational public service programs to large You Tube audiences even since suspending his campaign.
