Thanks for the very instructive video! I came to Ireland a year ago from the southern part of China. I'd acknowledged the leave no trace rule before embarked my first journey, but after couple freezing nights (maybe it's just for me from a tropical origin), I decided to tackle the issue with a portable folding bbq grill so that when the temperature is almost unbearable, I can at least burn some dead twigs or even a supermarket firelog in it without directly burning the ground. Plus, it also avoids the danger from the bursting rocks. In this way the ashes are easily collected the next morning. It's not perfect if we're really strict about carbon emmission, but I guess it's one way to balance between environmental impact and the conforts we need.

I do most of my wild camping at mountain loughs up in the Wicklow mountains. Leave no trace and no gangs disturbing me. Pack it in and pack it out.
I'm spoilt being from Scotland. I'm use to being able to camp anywhere. I don't use fires as as I was brought up not to when I was wild camping as a kid.
Last summer I was shocked at the amount of camping near the hostel in Glenmalure and just off the various roads at the Wicklow gap and Glenmacnass. The amount of rubbish and even tents left behind when people were right next to the road and could easily have packed it home. As with Lough Dan, the minority are spoiling it for the rest of us.

Hi Ewen 👍 Yeah I know it's upsetting to see the mess left by some , and it's mind boggling to see people leave bottles behind . All we can do is spread the #leavenotrace . Thanks for the comments 🙏🌳🍀💚

Have you ever seen the stove fires? Particularly the "Pomoly T1 Mini" costs a bomb but it's unreal. Very packable, and in saying that I wonder if that counts as a campfire, not that id plan for that to be my way around the law. But its a fire question as you are not damaging flora. That's my idea behind wanting one, also I've started to gather my set up. I've bought a "Polish Army Dome tent Lavvu teepee". Check that out "Lavvu", its a tent that two people can wear as a rain cover and then they join together to make a tent. Really awesome, fast set up and takedown. If you want a fly screen you can get a "howling top teepee-shaped mesh tent", so that there is my basic set up which I'm planning. The whole idea is that I can have a hot tent and stay warm in cold weather. The Lavvu is great because it's a canvas and that will not burn if an amber was to hit it, so no holes in the tent. A bit of modification will have to be done to the mesh layer for the stove pipe to go out top, but that's my idea. Been thinking about it for along time. It's a small packable option, for me that is important traveling to each location on a motorbike. The mesh tent and the Lavvu weigh in at 4kg, the tent could be lighter but that canvas is important, at least it serves to functions as it is also a poncho. Also, one last thing to add, I will treat the Lavvu when it arrives "I've just ordered it". So I will give a coat of water repellent just to really make it hard going. My whole idea is to basically be able to do a few days on the road with the bike, just the motorbike, and the open road. No hotels or anything, just motorbike and camping. So it is hard to find places that a suitable to camp with your bike, but I am sure they are out there.

Having no car is a real downer. Devils Glen is the only place in Wicklow where you can get the wild feel , secluded and can start Bushcrafting away but the roads hiking are brutal.. been dying to try it as my first but those sharp turns without proper yellow vest equipment really makes me stop.. hell even with them I probably wouldn't go further, roads are ridiculousness. I no that the Wicklow mountains and all are good when you start in Roundwood but I wanted to just practice lighting fires and all that before venturing out further. It's a damn shame the roads are so dangerous and you get cunts speeding without a regard for hikers.

Hey dude 👊 I haven’t come across anyone looking for trouble. I’ve met loads of like minded people just wanting to experience the outdoors . Meeting people from all over the world is the bonus . There was one idiot in my company , onetime got a bit stroppy , he’s no longer welcome in our company. I've actually been looking for some info regarding fires....I've been wanting to give my Kelly Kettle it's first trip when lockdown ends and I can get out of the city but if campfires aren't allowed in national parks, are Kelly Kettles included in that since they are like a contained campfire? I know gas stoves and Trangias are ok but can't seem to find anything on wood stoves
