It's pretty nice when your most inspiring TH-camr gives you a shout out...thanks for that Gerry, I'm very flattered 😊(Frozen Mist Wildcamping Ireland - you're a close second 😉) A great 32 minute trip to remember the amazing sights of Inishturk - I too love that feeling of knowing you have the place almost completely to yourself. The gifts of these solitary trips keep giving long after their ending. Loved the early shot of the birds landing on the sheep and the powerful sea raging below the beautiful cliffs. Your close ups of the bird life were spectacular and you'll have put Inishturk on the map for many! Lovely video 👏
Cheers Miriam, there is nothing else like that feeling of being the only one there - whether on an island or a mountain top - and I don't think there are too many places left where that can happen, unless you camp out for the night😊 The amount of birds along those cliffs was unreal and was a great bonus. Thank you again for introducing me to the island and inspiring me to visit 😊
Beautiful video Gerry. I like others was quite taken by the shot of the birds landing on the sheep's back. Also loved all the shots of the birds, flowers and other interesing features you so nicely capured. Lovely video👍👌😁
Another great video Gerry, I was half expecting you not to use a tent! The wild Atlantic has given us some terrific cliffs and sea views but I loved all the bird wildlife there, quite a sanctuary. I'm with you on the wild flowers too, without the sheep the island would be a feast of colour. We went to the Skelligs a few years ago so have understanding for those who don't enjoy the boat trip! Thanks for sharing so much. Regards, Ashley
Cheers Ashley, I had the bivy with me though just wasn't sure about the wind dropping off and getting eaten by midges, the tent worked well though as it turned damp with the mist. All those islands off the west coast of Ireland deserve a visit I think and Skelligs looks fantastic from what I have seen👍
Patrick, it sounds like we both love Mayo. Achill is beautiful and so are those other smaller islands. Inishturk has a real remote feel because of the small population which is focused in the south of the island, leaving the rest of the island to the birds and sheep and occasional walker😊
Miriam has certainly given me a few ideas for sure, as of course you have , might be tempted to give Inishturk a visit this week, though the weather is to be quite changable next week, normally that dosent bother me at all, but I defo want to see those views. Great coverage of the island Gerry. ATVB Colin.
Cheers Colin, it is really tricky to get the weather right that far out west, even with high pressure over the rest of us the forecast still usually talks about mist and drizzle. I was lucky that the mist lifted a few times to give the views. A really small island though it does pack a lot in and all those seabirds made the trip so this is probably a great time of year to go😊
@@gerrymcveigh thought long and hard about this trip , there’s nothing I could add to a film that you haven’t already covered , or indeed Miriam , so I’ve decided to head for Innis Oirr, on Thursday , a little chilled wild camp near the Plassey , unlike the feasting in my latest upload , you might even see a pot noodle and ginger nuts 😁
Peter, it is a fabulous place - I would rate it just behind Aranmore in terms of scenery, though it is all packed in tightly so not as much walking to get to it. The birdlife was amazing and even all that mist added something great to the trip😊
Cheers Des, I really enjoyed the visit to Inishturk, it is a brilliant wee island, really quiet and with some spectacular coastal scenery and wildlife.
Wow I loved this video. Awesome island. I don't know if I would be able to do the ferry tho. I just might get sick too. The color of the sea is beautiful
It is an awesome island and was well worth the visit😊 I am not great on boats and was able to manage it, though it was fairly calm even with the swell, anything more and I would have struggled. I love the colour of the sea, especially when water is breaking on the rocks😊
Excellent Gerry, you've captured the ruggedness, beauty and remoteness of the Island well, I watched it on my TV this time :) and it looked even better.
Wow, well worth the wait, what an incredible and intimidating place, so wild and rugged! Loved the glass memorial plaques and the history of the tongs ♥️ man vs mist added some mystery to the island tour, this must have been amazing Gerry! Loved the history to the island too, and the Northwest side, made Kat call you a mountain goat, for sticking to that exposed side! 🐏♥️😬 Love your use of b-roll and how you toggle between shots and transitions too, the waves, wildlife and flora, beautiful. Those sea stacks too, so wild and rugged, again just other worldly 🌍👍 What a stunning place, you captured it brilliantly. Very GOT indeed. Good work on capturing the running water too, top tip! Total immersion, absolutely incredible and thank you for sharing your trip with us and all the effort of putting this great video together, really easy and enjoyable watch, stay safe and well, Ceri and Kat 🌊👍♥️☕🌊
It is a beautiful place, as are all these wild and rugged islands off the west coast of Ireland. The Tale of the Tongs had a real power as these islands are still loosing population to the mainland, the big cities and abroad as more young people emigrate. I could have done with a mountain goats legs and footing for some sections. Running water has been an issue as it hasn't rained here in around 4 weeks and streams are nearly dry - though we are due rain tomorrow🌧😊 Thank you for the cool feedback and as you both know there is a lot of effort in the filming and editing🎥🎬
Thank you again Gary to share so magnificent pictures 🤗 « Quel coup d’œil ! ❤️😎» A dead Bird become something beautilfull…! With those 2 wings, It made me think an angel who had lost it arriving on the cliff ☺️
Cheers Oisin👍 That was a very cool trip, even though it wasn't always nice and clear. Loved all those nesting birds and the absolute solitude👍 Great for a day trip or an overnight.
Cheers James, it is well worth the travel to the west coast of Ireland now and again for all the wondrous coast, islands, mountains and everything else it has to offer👍
Just stumbled across your videos about a week ago Gerry. Absolutely fantastic stuff. There’s nowhere in the world like Donegal and the west coast of Ireland (in my opinion obviously) and I feel so lucky to have it on my doorstep. Your videos really portray the locations beautifully and I am well impressed with your knowledge on the areas you visit. You’ve even made a pack of super noodles look good lol! Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next video.
Cheers Kenny, it is always cool to stumble across things😊 I agree about Donegal and the West coast of Ireland - its not often I visit the east coast (except the Mournes). Not sure how good the noodles look, though they do the job and cost next to nothing😊 Thank you for watching👍
Another smashing video Gerry. Really enjoyable and interesting as always. Thank you, the bird of prey was a Peregrine falcon by the sound of it's calls I think
Cheers Richard, I think it was a Peregrine as I have heard similar calls on some of the cliffs in the Mournes, though not circling just above my head in plain sight😊
I like to hike in camp in an abandonend places, Irland has lot of these spectacular places, the fog above the ocean is awesome. New friend here from Lebanon😊🌲🤗
But Gerry - re the tale of the fire tongs....are you not forgetting the thousands of emigrants from Ireland to America who died onboard ship? They are so forgotten by almost all of us.
Gregory, appreciate the reminder👍 From memory I was quoting the information available from the signage on the island which maybe also forgot about all those who perished on those coffin ships.
Where do I begin with this trip gerry? It's simply awesome on so many levels. Immediately I think of them wild flowers. Wow a cliff side meadow like that is a powerful site. Mind you the nature and the cliff side scenery is something to behold for sure. You looked animated throughout by the history to. Fantastic outing. A bit bumpy getting there but hey you handled that. Good going gerry. All the best over there. Mark
Cheers Mark, it was an awesome trip, as all my visits to the islands off the west coast of Ireland have been. I love those wild flowers and the bird life and the towering cliffs with the ocean crashing away below - a perfect combination😊
Beautiful video. The shot with the birds landing on the sheep was class, almost as if you had choreographed it 🤔😅 I really enjoyed all your shots of the cliffs and the birds. It would be lovely to see the land be allowed to grow wild but the sheep are normally the only company on my hikes. I find myself talking to them 😅 All the best 👍
Cheers, I didn't even see the birds until I looked at the footage when editing, it was cool though😊 I have been known to have a conversation with sheep too as they are normally the only company when walking in the wilds of Ireland. The little bits of land without sheep were a riot of colour and it would have been amazing to see that right across the island. I would even be happy to pay to walk on the island if that allowed farmers to diversify.
@@gerrymcveigh it is easily one of the best shots I have seen. If you set out to film a clip like that it would be almost impossible. I would definitely pay to visit if it meant they could do that. I had never thought of if until you mentioned it. I'm just so used to grass 😅 I will be keeping a closer eye out for patches of wild flowers from now on.
That was jaw dropping Gerry. I'm just back from Achill island and was blown away by the place. I will definitely be back to explore Inishturk and Achillbeg, which I believe is uninhabited. Between yourself and Miriam kennedy, Inishturk is very well promoted. The footage you capture is stunning and I was wondering about what camera gear you use?. It looks like you travel light but you get results like you worked with David Attenborough. Beautiful video.
Cheers Joe, Achill is stunning and I definitely have plans to return. Inisturk was a great trip, even though I was lost in sea mist for a good part of it whilst the mainland basked in strong sunshine. Very quiet off the waymarked trail and loads of potential camping spots. Miriam certainly inspired me to visit👍 I think I travel light, fitting everything I need into a 45 litre rucksack. I have a GoPro hero 9 for the talking bits (only recently purchased having had a hero 4 for many years) and a Panasonic Lumix for all the other shots. I will keep an eye out for David Attenborough😊
Alan, I had a fantastic experience on Inishturk, even though the weather wasn't the best. A beautiful place with a wild and rugged western side with loads of potential for wild camping with no one else around. I use a gopro 9 for all my talking stuff and a Panasonic Lumix for all the other shots. Enjoy your visit and wild camp😊

@Walking & Wild Camping In Ireland Thank you. Which loop did you do and how long does it take? Is it possible to bring a dog along or is there too much sheep about?
Stephen, there are plenty of sheep. Not sure on the rights or wrongs of this one though did see some other walkers camped near the harbour and they had a dog. My route was a bit bespoke taking in a good bit of the Mountain Loop and following the western coast.
