- It has been a long and winding road for Perfecting Church to finish its majestic new edifice on Woodward Ave. and Seven Mile Rd. in Detroit. Starting two decades ago, construction has been met with prolonged periods of “go-and-stop” activities for various reasons. In February 2023, the City of Detroit filed a surprising lawsuit against Perfecting, alleging the construction of the new cathedral had stalled, was out of compliance with the City, and the 16-acre site was blighted, an eyesore, and should be declared a nuisance. Perfecting filed a countersuit.
Total costs would rise to $56 million once the project is entirely done!

The city made an offer that they will take the bldg and give back the 💵the church spent. Bishop refused that offer. To me that was God’s way of providing an escape and making the saints whole.

Some may recall, years ago building new church edifice's was a pastor's "legacy". It all came on the financial burden of hard working people and retiree's savings.
And He expects the people to pay for that? Lawd tear it down. Nothing but greed.

What is Marvin trying to accomplish. If membership is fading, what's the point of having a church that big. Bishop blake built West A here in L.A. in less than 6 years. It doesn't take 10-20 years.
That land would earn more money and have more of a benefit to the community if they had horses, cows, or chickens on it, hell even tomatoes, corn, hay, etc Definitely a waste

@@bernardhenderson1146No, they are no longer part of COGIC. They've been out of COGIC for years. If PC was, his MEGA Church would have been completed. COGIC is very Organized in their Business Affairs.
They could at least keep the grounds up, during renovation. They need to replace that lot and trim the hedges and grass. It look like it should be condemned

This only shows that this building would have been too much to maintain. God expects better from leadership when handling the people money

How are they going to do this..codes change every year..the design is old..seriously 20 years my God.. it took my former church 12 years to build.. gave everything I could. Now they have a big mortgage..empty church and renting it out to other congregations to pay the mortgage.. the seniors in the church have gone on especially my parents.. and yet this church still stands with a big mortgage.. come on bishop give up the ego.. it’s a different time now..where are your members who’s gonna help you pay for this building?

It's nothing inside there but dirt floors, beams and no real walls. I gave a lot of money for this Project for years. And, I'm not even a member. I'm not understanding this.

So what is the congregation & officers going to do? Continue to follow this man or get new leadership to see this church flourish. Who does the church belong to? Him or the people?
I hate to say this but, growing up in the Pentecostal denomination, they do not have the mental capacity for business organization, which I believe is part of the reason why they are not progressive. The church I grew up in run individuals out of the church that attempted to assist them in taking the church to another level. They were and still are resistant to change.
Marvin said God told him to build it😂 if God told him to buil it the church would have been completed a long time ago.

I think at this point 20+ years later that it is a disgrace to the testament of God and more an example of human error when you are operating in ego. They should sell it to the city, recoup as much of their money as they can and carry on at their current location. It has to be a consistent reminder of a failed attempt at growing their congregation to meet the demands of an edifice of this magnitude. 😢
The city offered to pay them the money they had put into it. That was turned down, and now a new loan, the parishioners will be on the hook for is on the horizon.
I don’t believe it’s a waste of money,I believe they will get that new facility completed since all they have to do is to build out the inside of the building. ,the hard work is already done,I’m assuming they want to wait until all of the exact funds are raised to continue the interior construction of the building.

They need 20 million to complete this project. That could take another 20 years. The problem is what my mother used to say: Your eyes are bigger than your stomach. They phrase most of the time was in relation to food, but it applies to this situation. I mean why do you need a wedding chapel, when you have a sanctuary? if you look from 7 mile, there is a vacant building sitting there which if not removed, would make that corner look unattractive. I actually rode pass a few days ago and it really is an eyesore. I have a feeling Duggan will find a way to sell that property to one of his buddies. Personally, I wouldn't want to be on Woodward and 7 mile when the sun goes down. All these Bishops want a megachurch.
