    Purchased one of these three weeks ago, very impressive, looks and runs great, the sound is very good also.

    Rapido are making 3 new diesels
    They are similar and so many to get .
    Class44
    Class45
    Class46
    That’s something that I am looking foward to .
    Tho can only get one considering the price of a big diesel for N scale . Barley had enough for my class 66 from Bachman and Class28 too .
    However . Just want to tell you cuz I can see your getting into the n scale side of things . And this being perfect for your needs I recon 😊

    My local model shop here in the uk has about a dozen of these in the various liveries both DC and sound fitted DCC versions. I was kind of taken aback by this little model. It does indeed capture the feel of the prototype. Only one of these was saved from the cutters torch (D5705) and it's being slowly and painstakingly restored to operational condition. It's been a long term project and the loco has passed through a few hands over the last twenty or so years. But the group who now own it are making good progress at last. Hopefully I'll see it run in my lifetime 🤔😁

      I'm not so sure restoring D5705 to operational condition is a good idea. These things were decommissioned early for a reason. The Class 28 is notorious for constant breakdowns and poor performance and I'm concerned that trying to run it without significant modifications to improve reliability would only shorten the preserved life of the locomotive.
      This is one of those cases where it's a good thing the model _doesn't_ perform like the prototype.

    Great review!
    It’s my understanding that the small and large radius curves is something to do with the shape of the corners of the yellow panels painted on the cab ends. The couplings are body mounted on all versions of this model. Mine runs ok on 1st radius curves but like yours prefers the Co end to be the front.
    Apparently B-Set coaches were sometimes used on locomotive test trains out of Swindon.
    The last surviving Class 28 was parked at Swindon for a while in the 1980s before eventually being rescued for preservation.

    Great video. I particularly like the fact that you don't take things overly seriously. I have the DC version of D5705 in green with SYP. I plan to add a Zimo decoder, but so far on DC no issues, other than with a reasonable load and the 'Bo' bogie leading, the 'Bo' bogie kept derailing.

      I will eventually have to look into a decoder for mine too. And a DCC System. Hopefully it's not too difficult to fit.

    I bought one last week and now it has settled down it runs fine,like you I find that it runs best radiator first.All in all I am very pleased with it,price wise it is very good value.

    Got the DC version and I too have found that it runs better radiator end (6 wheel) first. I've also noticed that the 4 wheel bogie actually catches slightly on the white piping so I'm wondering if that might be the cause. At some point I'm going to try filing down the offending bits and see if that cures it

      Interesting. Next time I run it I'll have to have a look and see if mine catches too.

      No it's not. It's completely different. British Rail Green is it's own seperate colour!

    This is great. Apart from the obvious attractiveness of a co-bo (this is the result of childhood 3 rail dublo), you're the best reviewer on TH-cam.
    Keen to get one, very keen. concern is I currently run kato, tomix and microace on my n scale layout: and the way the co-bo is running is a little concerning. The Japanese market N make absolutely no provision for dcc decoders, or any decoders for that matter, so its dc analogue all round.
    I've had my old tomix EF81 down to a constant 0.06 scale mph (30 seconds sleeper to sleeper) dc analogue of course, so theres a reasonable expectation the class 28 could have a similarly acceptable slow speed. Doesn't have to be equal or even close, but not of the likes of the N gauge of old...
    D'you think it would be capable of taking 140mm radius curves?

    • @HerbertErpaderp
      @HerbertErpaderp  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am surprised to hear there's no space for DCC in Japanese trains. But it's something I know next to nothing about.
      I don't think this loco would be able to make a 140mm radius curve. That's pretty tight.

      @muir8009 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HerbertErpaderp cheers for the reply. The Japanese home market basically has zero interest in dcc, I suppose because they've spent their energy into providing really clever and very sophisticated dc controllers, even providing constant lighting at stop.
      140mm is pretty tight: kato, tomix etc make a co-bo diesel Japanese prototype which takes it in its stride, but of course their designed to.
      Good video, excellent looking model. You've done very well

    I bought 2 rapido n gauge dcc sound brand new, one is running terribly, the other is dead.
    Both are getting sent back. Very very annoyed.
