    As a 15 year old beginner artist, who funny enough, has been drawing their whole life, this was the first time I was ever proud of a face a drew, as I drew along with your instructions. I'm just being to take art seriously and I'm really trying to learn, and the way you explained and showed, especially with the skull, was extremely helpful. I really, really appreciate the detailed insight and explanation into it, you've really helped me out and have been a huge part of the beginning of my real art journey.

      Draw a box is a great course! You might check my playlist on perspective concepts beforehand to understand some of the basic concepts of perspective that will help with some of the concepts they cover in draw a box.

    I just found your video and omg, I LOVE the way you explained how to draw the side of the face, it seems so obvious you would just place it between those two lines at the top and bottom of the circle but I couldn't figure it out on my own I would always draw it too long or too short or too wide ugh. I'm definitely practicing this a ton now that I have a way to guide myself to find the side of the face, now I feel like I can turn the face in any direction. THANK YOU!

    If you ever do a part 2 to this, I think it would be awesome to go over in more detail constructing the side plane of the face in various angles. I know that is one thing I struggle with, determining the side plane as the head rotates.
    Also a video on the more extreme angles would be amazing if you ever get to it.
    You're a great teacher and I'd love to see more videos like this one. If I could give stars to a youtube video youd get all of them!
    I've watched this video 3-4 times already as I work through the beginning of "Drawing the Head and Hands" really useful.

    Great tutorial Kevin! Have you done anything for a child's head using the Loomis Method, or would you recommend another method?

    • @KevinMcCainStudios
      @KevinMcCainStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can certainly use Loomis. Bit the proportions are different for children. If you look up Loomis book on portraiture it explains the differences as to how the face changes as you age from infant to an adult.

    WHOOHOO! I understand this now. For anyone out there struggling.. keep trying. It comes eventually after watching video over and over and over. Now off to 100 heads today. Want to ask you a question. Why do many portait artists start with the eyes first? Is that because that brow line area is the key to all other perpective..or is it for another reason? My friend did a tutorial that based all measurements on nose length/ width and angles from the nose. I am sure if you do it correctly it will work too, but just want to know the difference.The nose first tutorial was a front view.

      Hello Lisa, I am glad that you enjoyed the videos. The artists usually start with eyes because classically the head is measured in eye spaces. Now you can start anywhere on the head. In college they used to challenge us by starting to draw a head by starting with the ear and using that as the landmark to draw the head. However starting with the eyes is the easiest. Enjoy and keep on drawing.

      for me i start there cause it gives a good starting point plus if you do the ears first its the same thing good starting point that leads to the drawing
