  • Keeping food fresh has been a challenge at the Shack, as an eski with ice only lasts a few days, and the solar battery car fridge is not working very well. I kept my eye out for a decent fridge out of a caravan, as I knew it would be able to run off LPG (propane) gas. I grabbed this one - now the challenge of installing it.
The fridge itself works great; keeps food cold, frozen stuff frozen, and even freezes water. We will run it off a normal gas bottle, with the 12v battery bank as backup, and could even run off the generator if we need to. A nice comfort to staying at the Shack. Thanks to Martin of 'TheNorthwoodsman1' channel for the inspiration.

You could cut a 2x4 and get out your car Jack. Putting the board up under the bar put it on the Jack and crank it up half inch. I use my Jack in kitchens to pop off stubborn countertops I take off and replace with new ones. Cheers from the States

Yes, that would have been easier! I did think of it later, but of course was already done.
      Thanks for the comment Skip.

I noticed I didn't show how to start the fridge when using gas. I'll make a video on that shortly.

I would say that very dangerous because there is no outlet for the gas fumes

Thanks Paul. There is a vent in the rear wall behind it, and the room we are in is very large and ventilated.

Did you have to vent the fridge at all? Thanks much.

You are supposed to. Also see he has batteries that aren't vented in the corner. He likes fumes I guess

Hah! Yeah - I was hoping the insulation layer around the fridge cabinet would compress a little, but no, had to change the bench rail. Thanks for watching.
