I made these 60 years ago only I used a bicycle handle fitted to a short length of tubing instead of a wooden dowel. Used hose clamps to attach the surgical tubing to the tubing. I threaded two pieces of steel rod so that I could break the spear in two and carry it on my bicycle to Newport jetty and Corona del Mar. Never had a problem losing fish.
Great work, what would make this better is a step by step of you building one in real time for all the DIY ppl. Also, showing how you attached the rubber bands, dimensions of all the materials used, total cost, ect.
It's such a wonderful experience free shafting. We did it without flippers and the fun part is when we have to chase the fish when it's not stoned. However, those were the early days when actual spearfishing guns were only a dream. Nowadays they can be bought and made locally with wood so I feel like it's kind of good for teens to those around 40 and below. Going close to 50 years, better I stick with the gun and float lines. How can I buy one of these Hawaiian sling with the reel and spare with line attachment. I have checked out head hunters but they are out of stock. I am from the Bahamas.

Any way you can make a tutorial video on you making it, I want a Hawaiian sling but everything at least 70 for trash and like 180+ where I live for decent, and by decent I mean I don't need it that good. Also, where can I get a Mickey mouse spear for starters ? I checked home Depot and all their rods are bent and rusty

Instead of the sliding stopper, would a shark fin a couple inches back from the flopper work? You'd need to weld one on I guess because it's an irregular placement. It would probably pull the spear that way with line drag and you'd never be sure which way it was going to pull... I'm just thinking out loud, hopefully a comment will help the algorithms. This is 5M subscriber quality content.

Your Videos are good but you dont kill the Fire Fish. You leave all Fire Fish alive, everybody know that this is very bad for your Reef. Soon you will have mutch less Fish in your Reef bez you dont care this. That is is big Mistake. I can see that you have too mutch of this in your Place. And thats a big problem for your Place.

It's a slide ring. Slide it on the shaft then heat and hammer out the back of the spear so it stays on

Although it maybe late bro but you can use rob allen drop barb system on your slings I modified so my spearguns also day and night difference.
what kind of rubber do you use?
I use a thicker one. Basically as thick as i can without being stressful to pull back. Everyone is different. Just test out what works best for you!
