One of my son’s favorite WDW memories came from us paying close attention to height requirements. He wanted to ride Rock N’ Roller Coaster more than anything and he just made the height requirement a month before we left. When we got there, the cast member called him over to check his height. No lifts or anything shady, he proudly ran over to the height check and promptly knocked the top of his forehead against the height checker. The cast member said he was definitely tall enough and now had a “Disney Dent.” He still loves to remember that day since he was so proud to be tall enough, and the cast member was so nice.

A note on The Grand Floridian: you don’t have to actually stay there to enjoy a lot of the benefits. Make a meal or spa reservation and they’ll let you in. I take an Uber there, arriving an hour or so before my reservation time, and then enjoy the lobby, check out the shops, walk around the beautiful grounds, maybe talk to some nice people. I’ve taken a ferry from there to Magic Kingdom, and it’s a lovely trip. The Spa is expensive but wonderful, and the massage therapists are super knowledgeable and sensitive. It’s always a great experience.

I've never understood why folks wait in the Starbucks line instead of just going to Jeoffrey's. The lines are usually reasonable and their treats are way better. Jeoffrey's also has the AWESOME corn straws that are just perfect.

Many moons ago back in 1986 I had the cutest pair of sandals I decided to wear to my first trip to the Magic Kingdom. Luckily for me my mom needed a wheelchair because by noon I was limping. Mom took one look at me told me to sit down while she pushed for a couple of hours. I always use this story to stress the importance of bringing multiple good shoes. And this was in the days of only 2 parks.

You will never regret bringing a second pair of shoes or sandals (plus Band-aids for blisters) into the parks. We learned to bring old, worn-out sneakers and sandals for the parks and then trashed them in the hotel room before we went home. More luggage space for Disney souvenirs!

Planning burnout is no joke. I used to plan everything for everyone and now I won't do it, it's literally impossible to please everyone and it's so frustrating when they get upset with you over the plans you made that they didn't speak up on

My son and DIL spent the last 2 days of their WDW honeymoon at the Grand Flo. They spent them at the resort, renting a cabana and eating there.

I agree - don't try to enter the parks on your travel day. Too stressful. Just wander around your hotel, check out the nearby restaurants, unpack or go to the pool. One of my daughters and her boyfriend travel late in the day when they depart so they can do something at Disney during the day (often, just buying up souvenirs). But they are Disney park "pros" and know how to manage their time. Would never recommend this for a first-time Disney park traveler (this daughter used to WORK as a Walt Disney World cast member).

I've always kind of wanted to stay at the deluxe resorts, but I am that person who insists on spending AS MUCH of my time in the parks as possible, so I completely understand sticking to the value resorts. Normally I spend a day visiting the resorts on the monorail loop just to kind of take them in and maybe grab a meal at one.

Yesss the parks are perfect 🤩

    • @annesiegel3859
      @annesiegel3859 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Staying at a deluxe resort really only makes sense if you build in "resort days" into your itinerary. Even when the kids were very young (needing a stroller), we would spend most of an entire day just going from one hotel to another. Back then, it was possible to slip into a hotel pool for a bit even if you didn't stay at that hotel. The adults could order an alcoholic drink and watch their kids splash in the wading pool.

  • @claveauannie

To avoid setting off security with your park bag, put umbrellas, portable power bank, inhalers in a clear plastic bag. Give that bag to a person who doesn’t carry a bag (a child or an adult who gave you their pack bag). Security will see that the clear bag is the only thing they have on them, security may use the small stick metal detector, but no bag check! We use that technique during a week vacation, my 11 years old was the clear bag carrier and it worked every time.

I never understood how someone could even consider walking around these big amusement parks in anything other than closed toed shoes with very good padding (like athletic sneakers). Heels sound so painful, even if you're in costume, and then flip flops are just not good in general because they're loose and don't handle all that pressure well. And then if you ride on a coaster where your feet are dangling down, you may spend the rest of your day without footwear...
At least rain boots would make more sense. /shrugs
I also don't know why people think it's okay to use the park as their personal restroom...Like, WHY??? First, it's disgusting (and really moreso if you're an adult who should know how to control your bladder - or at least know when ya gotta go compared to a kid who may had just finished potty training). Second, then the entire area has to be shut down for decontamination - especially if you leave a Pooh. Third, it's also illegal to expose yourself like that, so that is a dang good count of indecent exposure if someone wants to report that(? I'm honestly unsure if that counts, but I know revealing certain parts of your body in public like this - is against the law).
Like, children or no children, just...Don't do that. No one wants to see that (unless they've a sick sense of amusement).

Rainstorms pop up and, while the price of Disney clear plastic ponchos won't break the bank, why spring for an extra item that only lasts 1 afternoon? Bring a better poncho that won't stick to your sweaty bod.

Great cast members, who are available 24 hours to help you in a difficult situation. Nearby, or in the resort, are amazing restaurants that are right there where you’re staying. When you are older or have limited mobility, these are very valuable benefits. I’ve stayed at all levels of on-site resorts and there are significant differences.

Thankfully, I have never witnessed what you experienced (and I've been to the parks at least 12 times since 1971). However, if you are bringing small kids, extra t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks and underwear are MUST=HAVE items in your park "go" bag. I have often seen moms scrubbing stains off a child's t-shirt in the park bathrooms. Does this sound like a fun Disney adventure? JUST BRING EXTRA SHIRTS. If necessary, buy some in advance for 50 cents each at a garage sale and pack them for the parks. Or borrow some from other moms in your neighborhood. That mom dealing with poopy underwear should have bought new ones at a Disney souvenir shop and transferred the poopy one to a closeable Baggie - and then into the trash - while she and the child were in a bathroom stall. Yuck.

I love the Genie+ hack of stacking LL's during the day for use during the evening. It's a great way to both get some rest and enjoy some park time on the same day!
In April we found the bus transportation from Fort Wilderness to the parks and Disney Springs to be excellent! We rented a golf cart, so we didn't have to use the internal busses, which saved some time. The difference, if there was one, between waiting for the bus and waiting for a ride share to arrive was pretty small, so the buses for the most part were just as fast or faster. They were also better for rope drop. We were getting to the parks before ride shares were even allowed in the parking lot. Between hotels? Ride Share all the way.
I am both the grandfather and the planner. I tried to get the rest of the family to help, but they all said they were fine with whatever I came up with. I even gave them tasks, like learning the MyExperience App and Genie+. I don't think they did either until they were at WDW. lol. I also asked everyone for their ride and restaurant priorities and got nothing back except "whatever you decide is fine". I also held family meetings as we got close to review all the plans, make sure all the accounts were linked and the magic band+'s we purchased (never again) were all set up properly. I also viewed ride throughs with my 4, almost 5 year old granddaughter, which was helpful right up to the point she rode Barnstormer our first day and decided that she wanted to ride every roller coaster she could, including Expedition Everest which she rode twice! Well, so much for pre-planned touring plans focused on what a 4 year old would want to do. lol! Well, at least my daughter bought me a T-Shirt which reads "Magic Coordinator". :) I'm not complaining. I love planning and can't wait to do it again!

As someone who had a kid who was almost always on the cusp of the measuring stick I learned a lot of the legit tricks to try and get them on the line. First, try to ride those rides at the beginning of the day. People naturally shrink through the day due to their body weight pushing down on the disks in their back. Second, look down places that kids are commonly messured at tend to be wore down more and the ground is usually graded for drainage, so do your best Obi-Wan and find the high ground. But I did wish Disney would have adopted the check once wristband method that regional parks have adopted.

Glad it worked out for you. 5-7 minutes used to be the rule, but when my family went last year, it was 30-45 minute waits each and every time, everywhere we went. We just kept asking ourselves why we were spending so much to stay on property.
As for the backpacks. Some do it to carry child care items, some do it because they want to haul around the treats and merch the buy. I do it for this reason, but also to show off a lot of Disney pins I have, show off that I have a DisneyQuest bag, and all my little plushie keychains, but also things like ponchos, umbrellas, shoes. (I tend to go in the winter when it gets dark by 6pm, and they light up. Lots of other light ups as well), extra pins specifically for trading, autograph book, drinks (bypass that $5 a coke by bringing my own). Sometimes I need to change layers, so they go in there as well. It’s pretty useful and worth the extra weight.

I know once I had to wait in security at the TTC for a lengthy time because the girl in front of me brought luggage. She had come straight from the airport, and I guess did not want to waste time by going to the hotel first. Even after scanning and going through everything, they took her back somewhere else because I guess her clothing posed a security risk. She just thought she could leave them at a locker.

I think it depends on what people need for backpacks. For example I have a few chronic illnesses, so I find once I pack the meds and stuff I need to manage those, I wouldn't be able to fit anything else in something as small as a loungefly so I prefer a large back pack so I'm not stuffing it. Plus where disney is trying to phase out plastic bags in favour of reusable ones, it gives me space for merch.

I practically fell off my chair when I saw what the parks are now charging for lockers. I remember them being $1 or less! Back then, if you wanted to get something out of the locker, you had to pay all over again to relock the locker. For $1 (or less), that was OK. Please tell me that once you "book" a theme park locker, you at least have it for the entire day. Please note that we made sure to have dry clothes in the locker (yes, underwear too for the kids) when we went on Splash Mountain in late January and the temp was 50 degrees. I'm one of those people who always had to plan everything myself. The worst thing is that because my husband never helped, he didn't understand how much planning was actually involved and he'd try to change the plan spontaneously, like "Do we really need to take a break in the afternoon to relax and nap or swim? Let's just stay here and do this other thing," And all that time I spent planning was wasted because he decided he didn't want to follow the plan. Then he'd get overheated and grouchy and want to leave the park early and just go back to the resort. "How badly do you want to do such-and-such? Let's just skip it and go back to the resort." It's sooooo frustrating. And our son is autistic, so he'd need time out of the park too, but my daughter and I would want to stay in the parks longer, but my husband would get upset and resentful that he was always the one going back to the resort early with our son while I got to stay in the parks with my daughter. I finally put my foot down and said yes, we really DID need that break in the afternoon!! It really helped all of us to have that rest. But if you are going to have one person do all the planning and you don't want to help, fine, but then PLEASE follow their plan and don't insist on wasting all their hard work. If you want a say in what you will be doing each day, help with the planning phase.
