    I think that the least painful way to part with sentimental things is to give them to siblings, children, grandchildren, or nieces/nephews. That way, they're still in the family, and they can be handed down to later generations of relatives.

    • @HomeMadeLovely
      @HomeMadeLovely  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      That can be. But often times others don’t want those things and don’t feel the same sentimental attachment to them.

      Often, no one in the family wants these things at least, this is what I have found.

      @@dianeyoung8068 Unfortunately, I think you may be right. For example, I have a friend who has lots of genuine antiques, and she still has no takers. But if you can keep things in the family, that's ideal.

      @@gerberjoanne266just because something is antique doesn’t mean that it’s “valuable.” Donate to goodwill or other charity, and if it actually does have “value” then someone will take it. Otherwise, it’s just a guilt-stricken burden that you “have” to keep something because it’s “valuable.” If it’s so “valuable,” then why doesn’t anyone actually want it? That’s not value. That’s toxic guilt. It’s false “value” based on obligation and shame.

    Good ways to handle the bench and china rather than letting them out of the family.

      @@kimesch9698 I also forgot to mention that I have two of my grandmother’s rings (a ruby and pearl one and her engagement ring). This is the same grandmother the bench belonged to. They’re much smaller and easier to keep than the bench!
