I've been driving smarts for 14-years. On my second one now, the first was totaled by Hurricane Michael. I went to the OutSmarting the Dragon rally five years in a row, from 2009 to 2013. My round trip was a little less than theirs, at about 1,100 miles (1,800 km), and I didn't produce such a great video as this. But, my longest road trip was to the Denver smart car Nationals in 2013, when I put in more than 4,200 miles (6,800 km) in a about 10-days. At the end of the Nationals, me and some other attendees made our last group drive to the summit of Pikes Peak. Smarts are great on the twisties, which is the reason for the North Carolina Tail of the Dragon rallies. I hope shanwls1 doesn't object to a link to some of my videos. If so, please let me know and I will edit them out. Here's my little video on the Pikes Peak climb...two versions: First is real speed with some editing...It's LONG th-cam.com/video/XNZ3yppIk4Q/w-d-xo.html The second is timelapsed to 3x normal speed, but is continuous from the pay gate to the summit...half as long th-cam.com/video/2J0vz53QYa8/w-d-xo.html I started to produce my experience at the first Outsmarting the Dragon event in 2009, but didn't get much past the opening scene... th-cam.com/video/eIw7wbjhQhU/w-d-xo.html I've got other smart videos on my channel, but enough is enough. I hope this isn't too rude, and will delete if this is a problem. YES there are smart fans in the US!
Can you give me the name and size of your rims? I would like to add these rims to my 2008 smart cabrio your just looks so good...and also the size of your tires please thanks ! I’ve watched this video 3 times now and I love it
Hi Scotty - the tire size is 205/50-R15 and the wheels can be purchased via Smartmadness.com. I was lucky and got them for a steal from someone selling all four on FB Marketplace. The name of the wheel is "Smart Fortwo Custom Wheels - 451 model - Genius 15" - Newton - Hyper Silver (4)". Hope that helps. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Shawnls, Thinking on picking up a 2008 cabriolet super clean not warning lights from a friend with 78K miles automatic? for less than $5,000 is it worth it? Great trip!
That sounds exactly how we got our "Fred". It's a 2008 which we purchased with 79k miles and paid $4500. We don't use it as a daily driver but we love this little car. I'd see if you can talk them down a bit, but I think it's worth it. We've had so much fun in this car. We also own a Tesla but we get way more looks and comments when we are out in the SMART.
@@shawnls1 I have a 2014 smart that I bought 3 years ago. It had only 10k miles on it. I got it for $6500. I also have a truck and another car. But my smart is my main car. I love it when I tow my 10 foot boat around. I get a lot of attention...lol
I just bought a 2008 cabrio with 34,000 miles on it for 11,000! What speed do you run at on the freeway? I'm thinking of driving mine from Raleigh North Carolina to Boston for lobster dinners
Hi Key, you can find the trailer here.. theusatrailerstore.com. We love this little thing and have pulled it across the country and back several times.
I made a trip from north Louisiana to New Orleans in mine. (2014) the seats were not the most comfortable to ride long distance. But I still love it more then my truck and other car.
Our longest round-trip in the SMART is about 1500 miles. While they aren't the most comfortable seats, we didn't /don't feel uncomfortable, mainly due to not having much to adjust. Your only options are to slide front to back and tilt the seat-back a little. My wife's biggest complaint is the passenger seat doesn't recline but my wife and I are both pretty short at 5'5 so they don't do bad with our body types.

Digging that trailer, i want one. Looks like y'all had fun trip.
Dude this was so awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video
Thanks!
What is the trailer used for? Is it a tent trailer?
We use it to carry a spare tire (on the longer trips), and extra luggage when the wife is onboard. Gotta have room for shoes and shopping.. LOL

What is the road noise like?
Considering ours is a convertible, not too bad, but we tried to ride with the top down as much as we can! ;-)
