From Kentucky, I just wanna say how much I love all of the players and Afreeca for continuing support for Starcraft. Never forget that you have many, many western fans that love you! Starcraft is forever.
@@kschacherer92 Welcome back. ASL 17 Round of 16 Group B was really good. Tons of back ASL catalogue, and ArtosisCasts has him doing a daily match with popular top players.
On kids these days calling Ultras Ullis Koreans have a tendency to abbreviate long or multiple word expressions by using the first syllables of each word, because a letter in Korean is a few vowels and consonants put together. For example we call a digital camera a "deeca". This kind of abbreviation gained popularity after the internet boom of the early 2000s(part of which starcraft had helped to bring) But since SC came out before that, the abbreviations us old geezers used to use were similar to the English speaking world. Ultralisks were ultras and hydralisks were heedras. But to a younger generation that is used to the "first syllable" system calling ultralisks ullis might make more sense. I once saw someone mention a "Sa Ve" and didn't realize he was talking about a Science vessel. But why none of the kids call mutalisks mulis is a mystery.
Coming from a dude who speaks (well.. understands at least) 6 languages - this was an intereseting read. Thanks for the effort. What a series this has been, jesus F christ.
That game 3 was ridiculously epic. Snow's Reavers are just unfair, man. If he had caught the fact that he wasn't mining gas from 7 o'clock I don't think he would have lost the positional advantage and could have retained 9 o'clock. He microed out of his mind but that one blunder costed him the game.
snow definitely made a few mistakes beyond that, he could have pushed 9 oclock wayy earlier but he didn't realize how much had been pulled from that entrenched position to defend the island. That game definitely felt unfair, he basically outplayed soulkey for 90% of the game but because soulkey was able to claim so many more bases early on it didn't matter that snow was grossly more efficient. I'm also not sure some kind of quick snipe on the nydus followed by throwing some stuff at the island wouldn't have been possible at some point, but then again I'm not the pro here, maybe it would have been too cost inefficient to try that. Overall in the series it felt like snow consistently had the better micro of the 2 players throughout, but soulkey eventually was making better decisions/mindgames, especially in the 2nd half of the series. A couple of those games he won were absolutely on razor's edge though. Series could have easily been 4-2 in the other direction.
@@EB-bl6cc The problem with diving on the nydus is that soulkey could always have a ton ready to pop out at any moment, and snow has no way to defend against scourge.
I have not watched the game for years and years, and I feel like I just have no idea why things are done/not done and its very cool but im filled with questions about why not try other stuff like Ultras or something idk. But it worked out well so im all happy anyway super cool game
While Snow micro is highest level Protoss units is simply unfair against Zerg main composition. Snow made a mistake with gas but at the same time Soulkey made a mistake not going Great spire. While I do think that Zerg has a slight advantage vs Protoss it’s not enough to attribute the results winner have gotten
there's something so satisfying about modern brood war games, I love sc2 just as much but I just love how spread out and complex the games are, so much roaming and so many different unit groups doing stuff. It fills my small brain with awe.
I think of the 6, ZvP is the most “starcraft 2-like” of the brood war matchups, and I mean that in the best possible way. There’s very dynamic timings and it lends it self towards big macro game battles with lots of options for tech and composition switches.
Okay, I enjoyed this one a lot. Super high-level play on both sides, no dumb moves. I wasn't rooting for either player, just wanted a good series, and I got it. Game 3 (the long one) was insane!
He is the ultimate heart attack kid, I swear. Just about every series is him tooling around trying to download his opp before he comes back with the haymaker.
@@snaffu1 Precisely, this. SoulKey just takes a few games to understand what type of game his opponent is bringing to him, then he shuts it down. The ultimate 'Best Of' player.
It's been so, so many years since I got teary-eyed from some one losing at brood war. Not since Stork finished 2nd in the Bacchus OSL and then won the Incruit OSL in 2008. But damn I really wanted Snow to win. What a profound sense of loss. So such good play, really just razor's edge mistakes in G4 G5. What a series. WP to Snow, and congratz to Soulkey with back to back titles i guess
Played his heart out and was still all smiles while taking pictures and signing autographs with fans for over half an hour after the match. He became my new favorite player after that day!
As a Soulkey fan, Snow played his ass off, and has definitely leveled up his PvP and PvZ this season. He also has a seed to come back next year with! Things are looking good for him, and I hope he takes it next year.
Same here. I feel like Soulkey stolen this win from sn0w, it just feels dirty. His wins in G3 and G4 were not deserved, after G3 he was looking like he lost. Sn0w played better, lost due some stupid mistakes. It weren't Soulkey wins, it were Sn0w losts. And after that, Soulkey knew he won't win late games with Sn0w, so he just turned to rushes and all-ins. After G5 I hoped Sn0w would notice this, and would play G6 extremely carefully in early game. Unfortunelly he did not.
Snow and soulkey are probably my 2 fav pros I was never here before remastered. With soulkey winning the last one I hoped for snow advancing but I'd still cheer for soulkey challenging queen's record 😊

42:50 - ish. I couldn't agree more, it's a fantastic time to be a BW fan. I've been watching since '06 or so and seen thousands of BW games and I feel like every other season I find the new best game ever. I know Macro is the key but some of the micro we see now is absolutely on a level with the old days and are very deserving of pimpest play montages. I'm excited about the future, please keep these coming!
Soulkey is a genius. He sees how impossible a truly great Protoss like Snow is to beat in the midgame, so he makes sure the games are decided either really early or really late.
Second time watching this match, what an incredible semi-final. It's so nice to see a hyped match deliver like this. I don't usually root for a ZvZ matchup of any length (especially Bo7) but Soulkey earned his opportunity with the breadth of play he demonstrated here.
My favourite players of Broodwar play, and I am literally shocked from the games. This is just epic! Best protoss vs best zerg, it is scary and fascinating! Thank you Artosis and Tasteless for English cast!
When they were talking about Soulkey reverse sweeping a bo7 in GSL, I remembered Life reverse swept DRG in the Iron Squid finals. It was one of the most amazing things I've watched, the atmosphere that the audience brought to that tournement was unlike any I've ever seen
In fairness, forgetting the guardians wasn't as bad as forgetting you had a gas. 😂 They were both so cracked out and focused for so long, mistakes were happening everywhere.
Game 3 was incredible and that's devastating for Snow to lose that kind of game where he played that good and still lost by such a narrow margin. After game 4 you can see that Snow was just spent but it's still his best effort that he's put up against Zerg in ASL so we'll see if this crushes him or if he can bounce back in the future
