    Thanks for sharing this tutorial. I had to make it twice and finally figured out where I was going wrong. First, for the stroke on the cut up circles, I needed to choose the option for the end caps that extend otherwise, I just could not get it to align no matter how carefully I placed them. Then, I couldn't get the shape builder to work. After some research, I found an article that advised double clicking the shape builder tool to get the setting and clicking on the gap detection option. Then, everything worked great. Now to figure out how to make little adjustments to the pattern to get it to fit exactly. :-)

      OMG thank you so much for this tip! I was ripping my hair out over here and could not figure out how to convert the lines into a shape. This truly helped :)

    Hi, I’m not getting the alignment at all. I’ve done this over and over and nothing seems to align the top four quarter circles to the main object. Any idea?

    Hi Cristina, I've tried making this a dozen times. I think it's something to do with the little circles at the top and bottom. It all looks okay but I can't get the shape builder to work and when I take it into the pattern tool it's a weird pixel size. I'm using all the same dimensions, steps, and using the smart guides, but something just is not working for me. Any ideas?

      Hi! It's hard to tell without seeing exactly what you do. You can skip the Shape Builder and just group the lines, then go to the Pattern tool. Does it work if you try it this way? You can also use the Divide option from the Pathfinder menu instead of the Shape Builder.

      Thanks, Cristina. Divide didn't do anything so I just skipped the shape builder and grouped them. There's something with the top or bottom circles that's messing it up. It ends up being 250 x 249 and after adding a couple of strokes to make the lines thicker, the corners end up making an "L" shape. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep trying.

      They need to be perfectly aligned or you will get those small gaps. You could try using the Direct Selection tool to move the anchor points until the L shape disappears. The Shape Builder tool prevents that from happening. If this doesn't work, you could also try creating the trellis shape using the Pen tool.

    Please let me who is the first one to this pattern. Is there any copyright for this pattern?

    • @bycristinasilvia
      @bycristinasilvia  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a basic geometric pattern that's been used in decorative arts for hundreds of years. I don't think there's any copyright for the basic design.

      This is ancient middle eastern and North African art. For whatever reason it's trending now. You see it everywhere. So definitely no copyright.
