  • This is one video from a series of 11. It shows how 'wonky' green potatoes marked down in price can be planted to give a 'massive' return from a 1kg bag that contained 11 potatoes. Each potato was planted in a 10" bucket, in a soil based compost, to grow a potato plant. In each of the 11 videos I 'turn out' a bucket, harvest the potatoes and weigh them. What I got in return is, well, watch the video's.

Scored a kilo of "slightly green" Baby spuds grown here in scotland for £0.32p, and a 2kg bag of Saxon for £0.60p grown in Fife. "Seed Potatoes" next year will be around £6.00 per kilo or more. 3 kg of viable spuds for less than a quid? Against almost £20.00 come on, that is a no brainer!
Grabbing the bargains makes so much sense. We still have 30lbs of home grown spuds. I will save a couple of pounds of Roosters for next year..
Transplanted 6 pruned pepper plants that almost made it this year into pots with fresh compost, they will over winter in my workshop.
When the going gets tough, the tough get growing! All the best Jim.....

What's always amused me is the expression 'certified seed potatoes'. I've never seen a certificate so I have no idea what's being certified? The variety, the quality, free from disease. Well we get all that with shop bought potatoes! Farmers name, where they were grown and variety all on the bag! As for quality and disease free, that's a given, or we wouldn't be eating them. When the going gets tough, the tough get growing! Trespassers will be composted!

If you stick with this until bucket 11 the total weight of potatoes returned will 'blow your socks off'. I know, I've seen the lot.
    Now, "where's my socks"?
