Nefarious is a good example of a villian who doesn't need to be complex to be fun and intriguing.
Funny enough they kind of are.
Dr. Nefarious understands defeat and learns from previous mistakes. While he gloats whenever he has the upperhand, he knows not to underestimate his enemies.
Emperor Nefarious however only knows success, and is overly confident in himself and starts losing his mind the moment defeat seems like a possibility.

He Kinda overstays his welcome though.
So these two are very interesting characters.
Dr. Nefarious has known only defeat all his life, is obnoxious and hammy, but he always learns and comes back from his defeats, becoming more dangerous and cunning each time regardless of whether he wins or not.
Emperor Nefarious on the other hand only ever knew victory and success, conquering his dimension and making everything about him. However because of this, he was not mentally prepare for the situation where he could lose, as he became too arrogant of his own capabilities.
Dr. Nefarious always has something to look forward to, the chance that he might win and therefore it drives him, gives him the motive and ambition to never give up. The Emperor however had conquered everything that was known to him, and so became unsatisfied, comparing happiness to success, throwing parties, creating music and artwork to try and feel something, but ultimately felt empty inside.
The Doctor has always lost and so he just gets back up and plans for next time, but the Emperor, suffering his first defeat, starts to shed more of his proud and arrogant facade to show the cowardly entitled manchild he actually is, to the point where his answer to losing is to just destroy reality itself.
In spite of their difference, the two are just as powerful as each other, but the Doctor had to deal with a far more competent enemy in the form of Ratchet and Clank whenever he tries taking over the universe. The Emperor never had a challenge and in turn succeeded due to Rivet and Kit never becoming partners earlier on in their career.
Also interesting enough, the Emperor becomes a snivelling wreck when he's overpowered in a fight, but the Doctor shows no fear in battle, as when Kit got the upperhand Dr. Nefarious had to save his "more successful" counterpart from her.
So basically Emperor Nefarious is suffering from victory disease.
Imperator Nefarious is that one kid in that class, thats better than anyone else and is extremely arrogant, but has a mental breakdown the moment someone is better than him.

And he's from a dimension where everyone is supposed to be more interesting than their original counterparts.

You know, Dr. Nefarious seems to be actually very likeable here at some points. The bit where he explains why his Emperor counterpart feels so empty just speaks to me in a way.
With being defeated again and again, and coming back repeatedly from it more dangerous and cunning (but still charmingly hammy), Dr. Nefarious has learned the true art of villiany... That the joy is in the challenge and thrill of the chase

There's also some idle dialogue you can find in the first area where Nefarious is talking to the goons (the ones he mentioned were supposed to have killed Rachet and Clank 8 minutes ago) and it shows that Nefarious gives surprisingly good pay and workable contracts that he's willing to negotiate for good employee satisfaction. He also gave Lawrence paid paternity leave, with the ending credits showing him visiting Lawrence's new family. He treats his goons so well that they actually help fight Emperor Nefarious in the final battle as allied NPCs in support of Dr. Nefarious.
In other words, Nefarious wants to be evil more than he's actually evil. This is in contrast to Emperor Nefarious who is genuinely just awful to everyone, including his followers, hence why the moment it was shown that he was about to lose in the final fight, they didn't bother helping because him dying is good for them. Dr. Nefarious in every game always has his minions fight for him until the very end (this one included), since he's a good enough boss to make them want to fight for him out of more than just obligation. The twist about Emperor Nefarious is that he's Nefarious with none of his likable traits, making him the ironic worst possible version rather than the best as his conquered dimension might imply.

I kinda love how the Doctor and the Emperor contrast each other. Nefarious, laughable as he may be, never gives up. He always comes back, more dangerous than ever and with a new plan, each time. He loses because the heroes also progress and update themselves to match him. The Emperor basically started with a huge startup and since the heroes of his dimension didn't work together, they were no match.
The moment the Emperor loses, he tries to blow EVERYTHING to kingdom come, while our good ol' Doctor would rage the hell out, but still simply come back another day.
Eternal triumph leads to stagnation and lack of development. It is ultimately from our failures from where we learn the most.
Just like Dr Doofenshmirtz and Emperor Doofenshmirtz in Phineas and Ferb: Across The 2nd Dimension
Do we know that Emperor had a big startup? I would think he also worked to conquer the galaxy. He hardly woke up one day to a conquered galaxy. That's what Dr. Nefarious tried to do by skipping right to that point.

Robin Atkin Downes' performance as Emperor Nefarious was incredible.

You can’t help but smile at the sheer joy Dr. Nefarious feels when he wakes up in the throne room (or whatever exactly you’d call it) and realizes just where he is.

Dr Nefarious is one villain that doesn't win yet he keeps coming back to try win and learn from his mistakes from when he's defeated.
Dr. Nefarious is a mad scientist who wants to rule the entire galaxy with his army of robots. He is kinda funny, but always trying his best to conquer the universe. Also he always wanted to win, and he did. Also his voice sounds crazy/funny.
Emperor Nefarious how ever, he successfully rule the galaxy with fear like Emperor Palpatine with an Iron Fist. He is more sinister and more evil then Dr. Nefarious. But his much taller than Dr. Nefarious and the design is cool.

The animation in this game is just beautiful and Nefarious is just a riot. I may not be able to play it but I'm glad to have the game in my collection.
This game is great at showing the PS5s capabilities. It looked like everything I expect from a feautre length animated movie, and that all the way through.

You know as great as the writing is in the game and as awesome as both characters are...I really miss the running gag of Nefarious tuning into soap operas when he screams too loudly.

When Dr. Nefarious says he will go to the dimension where he always win, he's not even careful for what he wished for.
Nefarious' problem was that he underestimated his own ego. There is no dimension in which a Nefarious would tolerate a second mad conqueror in his spot.

Dr. Nefarious is SUCH an entertaining villian to see. He's the most entertaining villian I've ever seen, besides Starscream from Transformers Prime.

I think that was kind of the point. Rivet had trouble gaining ground against the Emperor because she mostly worked alone. Ratchet meanwhile had a dedicated team to fight the Doctor. Using the rationale that parallel universes function on similar logical patterns, Emperor N was bound to lose when Rivet and Kit finally teamed up.

Meaning something like if he never experienced failure and defeat like our doctor has countless of times by now the emperor doesn't know how satisfying a victory is!
Or some guys of you can come up with a better and deeper analysis than me! ;-D
Or, instead of hamfistedly spelling the moral of the story out for the audience, they could be (marginally) more subtle and concise, make the quip sound more natural, and let the audience fill in the unsaid part themselves.
This would keep the moment from hitting people over the head with its message and would also let the audience reflect on it more by making them arrive at the idea on their own.
So hey, keep it simple. Maybe instead just make the line, "What do *you* know about winning?"
That'd be really good and snappy.

You are not alone, there is a reason he is a recurring villain.
Same here, while it took about 3 games for him to become a character, his introductory cutscene sells out how hotheaded, hilarious, and bitter he can be, and that final boss fight… you aren’t prepared at all if you dare fight him with no armour upgrades whatsoever, hell, making it past Mylon itself without it is just knocking on death’s door without ever realizing it to begin with. A major leap ahead from what the Vidcomic made him out to be. And deserving of the final boss title in that game. Biobliterator was just an interactive epilogue like Dark Beast Ganon from Breath of The Wild. But made much easier, moreso when you can just snipe it with the splitter rifle if you get close enough. Which is certainly as humiliating as Nefarious claims it to be. Needless to say, Dr. Nefarious is the mainstay villain of the series, Drek died, the Protopet was neutralized, Gleeman Vox also kicked the bucket, So, why not bring back someone who made a very big impact time and time again? Nobody’s complaining about how Bowser returns in every Mario game as he’s the titular antagonist. Same implies for Nefarious.
I like how NO ONE like absolutely NO ONE mentions the details of this game! Like the Nefarious sluggers looking confused as to why “Emperor” Nefarious looks like that before saluting at 4:04!
We have two games where furry animals go on an intergalactic adventure across dimensions to stop two evil Nefariouses from taking it all over. Crash 4 and this game.

Why does emperor nefarious look more like the fallen and dr nefarious looks like starscream. Even the emperor treats his weak counterpart very much like megatron abusing starscream.
I originally felt off about Dr. almost always being a wimp around Emperor, but if I were evil and was fully aware that my dimensional counterpart succeeded where I couldn’t and they displayed a level of power that I did not possess, I’d be fairly intimidated as well.
Not to mention Dr. is always looking like he’s playing the long con game for his own personal benefit. From briefly trying to wrench the Dimensionator from Emperor as soon as he says he’s going to invade Dr.’s dimension, to just doing nothing when floating alongside him or sitting inside the mech instead of helping the heroes, to emerging from the rubble first and getting the dimensionator back for about 3 seconds because he got lost in his own maniacal cackle.
Also the fact that Dr Nefarious realized that Emperor Nefarious actually sucks, when he tried to conquer Dr Nefarious' dimension. That's the part when Dr Nefarious realized, that losing doesn't make him look incompetent but stronger, thus taking the big W when he pushed Emperor Nefarious down.
The big difference between those two? Dr. Nefarious was immediately bored when he "won" and still wanted to improve more. Emperor Nefarious felt like he doesn't need to improve.

I LOVE Dr. Nefarious but I dont like that he's become a joke in recent years. The sheer fact he flinches at Clank coming at him with a wrench sums up everything wrong with the current course.
Nefarious probably has some PTSD from his encounters with Ratchet. He did not have any issue when fighting Rivet.
Actually, this game is a good chance to see him in a new light.

Emperor nefarious looks so Egyptian and I love it, I can imagtion for the first time he appears, the perish song by tricywi is playing in the background as he slowly flows down to ractet, clank, rivet and kit.

They wouldn't kill the main Nefarious, especially in such a lame way.
Nefarious goes from conquering Galaxies to Dimensions. That's a big jump there fella, you got a couple billion more galaxies to take over first.
I like how aspects of nefarious character are both absent and present in the game . His scar is now fixed to the point is just look closely mark , the credits show lawrence absence is because he started a familly and is on live to take care of his kid ( and the dr semse to be very happy for him glad to see that) as fir the radio drama his villains wiki page sais he finally fixed it and is now looking fir the episodes he missed
I really like how smart and strong is the orange nefarious. His flaw is being too greedy
I just realized that a “Magikarp-esque” flopping fish is both the first thing the Doctor summons and the last thing that the Emperor summons. No idea if that was intentional or not, but it’s funny nonetheless.
Nefarius is the best character in this franchise!!!!!😍😍😍😍
