I agree with JonaVicis! I know I started a navel orange tree over 10 years ago and used a soil mix with more sand in the mix and my tree has been doing good all these years! Years before this I just grew it in potting mix and after awhile the leaves would turn brown and drop off due to too much moisture. The roots need to breath! :-)

This is the most amazing thing ive seen grown at home! Gotta try this as soon as i can get my hands on a good coconut! Also, i think the soil should be sand-blended, seeing as palm trees love to grow on beaches in the sand.

Yeah needless to say it didn't germinate. Amazon does have coconut seedlings for sale so try them. A major limiter is the fact that a lot of coconuts tend to be irradiated to keep them alive longer.

Hello ! Where are you come from ? I am from Paris and i adore plant what I eat and all that is gardening. What is you name? My name is hélène. My daughter asked me what I wanted for Mother’s Day and I told her two kinds of coconut, a papaille and she brought me a giant lawyer in addition because she knows that I wilted it becomes very quickly giant. For coconuts, disappointment, a tiny one that didn’t look super fit and not too much water inside and the other one is a giant, fresh coconut but ready to eat !!! Looking on the internet a single site told me that it was possible but not sure to germinate the giant ready to consume and for the moment it does not seem to rot (it is completely underground, the sharp side 1 cm from the surface and made like tiny very fine roots, I let it see. Could you test on your side or have you ever done it like you look curious like me? For the tiny nut that I wanted to germinate following your advice and after soaking on 3 eyes there was a white but liquid one that smells bad what to do? Is there a chance of having one more germ? I saw liquid white and it was breathing and making noise as you said but not solid and I realized that it smelled bad, it died? Thank you for giving me the time to respond. You present fruits that I do not recognize that is why I ask you whereyou come from because I am used to exotic fruits. Thank you very much!!! Hélène

I soaked it for 3 days like you did, and put it in a bag for a few weeks, but then I decided to plant it strait in the soil to see what would happen. As of today (1st of September) my coconut has pushed a root through one of the 'eyes'. I hope this helps.

Really nice to see the coconut germinate. Actually we here in India (Hindus), in some part of the country keep a non-dehusked, normal coconut on a small pot filled with water(which is frequently changed) in front of the god place. We pray in font of it. Sometime it germinates and after a couple of months it grows into 2-3 feet plant on the water pot. It probably signifies prosperity. Later it is planted in kitchen garden in our back yard or at some apt place.
We at my home never really had a such an event. I always wished I had one such growth at my place. So today when I saw you do the video it reminds me of myself when I had also tried like you to have it assisted germination. But it never worked. But for now with your inputs I am going to try your ways.
    Thanks a lot!

Good video. I tried the bag method, and all I got was a decayed nut. Planting outside in a plastic pot with dark potting soil in the summer had better results. No prior soaking either, and this time it sprouted. I think the heat helps. I don't think this would have worked inside at room temperature. Pretty neat though. Who knew this was even possible?

  • @intezamable

the green cover (coconut coir) is full of sugars and natural growth hormones. One can simulate this environment with saw dust, honey and willow water and the seedling will be much stronger. Also, the eyes need not to face up, but sideways with the soft one buried in the saw dust. Btw, the honey prevents fungus when keeping the bag on a radiator/water boiler...etc. The willow water is full of growth hormone (crush willow leaves/stems and soak them in tap water for a 2 days). Instead of sawdust one could also use expensive coco peat...

very nice video..good work! I live in Brazil and coconut palms grow here in sandy soil mainly, but you find them also on other soil, most of the time its kind of a poor and soft soil. guees they don't get much niutrients out of the soil here having big leaves for lots of photosynthesis. The many strong roots they develop all around the base of the stem are mor likely for good fixation as they are exposed to strong winds especialy at the beaches. good luck on you palm! plant it at the sunniest spot you have. cheers mate

  • @riverp9019
    @riverp9019 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Its like magic! I have other palm seeds sprouting now and its so exciting when they do, well done. You can wrap the coconut in spagnum moss that you wet then squeese dry till just damp, placed in the bag around the cocnut this will keep the roots warm and moist as they appear which is what the old (rotting husk) husk would do. You could also use coconut fibre (LOL) bought from the garden shop.
Your way is excelent, though. Unhusked coconuts are huge and difficut to handle, they take much longer to sprout too.
I reckon sandy soil is best at least that's what they like in the "wild" growing in almost pure beach sand as they do. I wonder myself if this is why the seed is so big so the seedling has plenty of food in that poor sand. Maybe when the roots reach right down bellow the beach there is proper earth who knows?
Hope you can find a nice warm enough micro climate to plant it. If its too cold and it doesn't make it don't worry try a few Nikau palm seeds. New Zealands Nikau palms are spectacular and can take slightly cooler weather. I can't grow them its too hot and humid here ):

You need decaying wood and soil and then you put the wood on the bottom the soil on top and mix with some normal soil off the ground and then you mix water salt and palm sugar together and feed it to the coconut 🥥

My tree is about 10 months old now. the root system seems good. The trunk snapped partly off the coconut itself. Do you thin my tree will die? Has anyone else had this issue? Please help!

I use miracle grow cactus, palm, and citrus soil for my palm trees. It will help them grow faster.

Great video. Enjoyed it. I used to live in the Virgin Islands and would go to a remote beach that had a coconut orchard (it was dark back in there and along a natural mountain rain run off) to collect small coconut trees after they'd sprouted. I never tried to grow from a coconut myself, but now that I'm back in the states, I plan to try it your way! Thanks for sharing!

Oh please I love coconuts they are the real medicine to the body, yo grow your own tree is amazing. What I fond disgusting is when people rather buy stiff that's only 40% natural

A 40% stiff can be alarming.
