Why did the Tower controller send them over to Approach without ascertaining anything about the emergency? They might not have had time to be resequenced. They might have needed to make a visual circuit and land immediately. A frequency change should never be the first response to a Mayday call...
“American 2095 are you able to take a turn so you can remain in my airspace” later in the video helps explain this. Controllers have a certain amount of airspace they deal with. If you’re gonna go outside of this usually they need to switch you. We can’t see all the other aircraft controllers are dealing with in this video. Of course it could also be that they actually said Mayday for once and the controllers couldn’t handle that 🙄
He needed approach to get them in. ATC in USA is best on world. I was Blackhawk Crew chief for 20 years. No where else on earth I’d rather fly than USA and it ain’t even close
@@ThemePro24Responding to a Mayday call with a frequency change doesn't seem right to me. The Tower should have determined the nature of the emergency and the urgency of landing. Getting resequenced by Approach may not have been an option. They may have needed to make a visual circuit and land immediately.
@@thomasdalton1508 The plane was leaving his air space and control area. He had to hand the plane off to approach as the plane was in their air space and they have to coordinate the plane's position with other aircraft.
Flameout is either an engine failure (engine is still spinning but not producing thrust possibility of a relight) or engine seizure (catastrophic failure of the engine with no opportunity of a relight). A compressor stall is a disruption in the airflow of the motor (think a car backfiring). Reduction in thrust may clear the motor but, if left unattended, could lead to an engine failure or seizure.

Nope... just stupid.
There are different controllers for different airspace. He got priority

Sequencing???? How about we’re number 1 for landing. Clear the path!! There’s your sequencing!!!

No it’s SOP lol
Can't believe the aircraft tried to interfere with the tower controller's Jimmy Johns order like that. Good thing he got him off the freq
Professional flight crew
I'd like to hear from an expert on how ATC handled this. Seems like Tower could have done better. Approach was good.
Sounds like an auto relight with a FADEC engine. Well done.
I don’t know if it is a different display, but there didn’t appear to be any red EM flagged against the flight on the radar.
Calm AF.
And crystal clear in communication too.
Does flameout mean the same as a compressor stall in this situation?
Yes and no. Regardless, the fire goes out.

And the Execs at Boeing are breathing a sigh of relief that it's not their plane
The ULA thing failed again so.... lol
What do you mean? It’s the Boeing Airbus A321
Even if it was a Boeing, this is an engine fail. Boeing don't make engines.
