Fantastic video Rob! I was already very happy with my AB F40, but it helps to see the specific strengths and weaknesses of each brand of model. Please do more of these detailed side by side comparisons in the future.
After watching your video and a recommendation from a friend I bought the AB models (possibly the last one that was for sale). Happy with the purchase! Thanks for the great reviews!
I went with BBR for the color, the dark metallic blue. My only complaint, and it is with all BBR models, is the tires. I wish it had AB levels of details on the tires. Everything else was fine. The engine could be better, but not a huge complaint. I also like the dip in the wing. Not sure why some F40s have them and other don't, but I like seeing it on the model. One thing I don't like on the AB is the brakes. They look very different from any set of brakes I see on the real car. On display, a metallic blue F40 just wins everyday. The F40 is not a favorite, but the BBR model is one of my favorite models to display for all to see.
Big fan of your channel. Happy to hear you are getting a supercar but disappointed the reviews are ending. I didn't really have any exposure to AB models but this helps me decide about future purchases (bought an AB today in fact). Have heard many negative comments about BBR's quality and customer service as well. Doubt I'll ever purchase a BBR. Good luck with your supercar search.
Great review, i was under the impression that bbr were the best available, but ive never owned one, they always seemed very expensive, so this review means a lot, i dont think I've heard of ab models, as most of us dont have other models of the same car to judge the best, this video helps so much,
AB models hands down, after all, it's an Amalgam. Very disappointing to see how inaccurate the BBR version is, for me, I can't get over how the inner turn signal and headlamps don't look correct at all. Looks like a cheap model compared to what BBR is usually capable of doing. They need to go back to the drawing board with their F40. Bravo to the AB models F40. I'm so lucky I was able to get my hands on one. It's truly stunning.
Thanks for this useful review, Rob! I have both Kyosho and BBR F40s and thought out of the two, I must have at least one of the most accurate and best models out there. But I’m in dismay that they’re both not the most accurate and that I should have gotten the AB Models, and now it’s no longer available.
Excellent comparison review which helps me in my decision making process before buying although the AB is sold out, but considering the anniversary offering even though, I'm not a fan of the decals on it.
The more you look at it the more flaws you notice on the BBR. For example, the upper horizontal "bezel" around the rear mesh has too much of a bend upwards if you know what I mean. It should be more square.
I've got the AB F40 60th anniversary edition, just wondering would that be possible to remove the decals without damaging the paint? Is there a clear coating on top of the decals?
The only reason I didnt buy it was because of the decals. Now waiting for the F40 with LM wheels (ideally I would have liked to purchase the one with regular wheels but it was already sold out).
@@Adi-cp1hu I Actually managed to scrap off the decal from the hood. I used water and fingernails mostly, a toothpick as well. The decals are on top of the clearcoat so it's very easy to remove. There is no scratch marks whatsoever (I looked very carefully with flash light). It looks just like the first version. I will start to scrap off the door decals tomorrow.
@@liordavidov If you look at Rob's first video review of the AB F40, you'll be able to see he has a wave in the rear mesh as well. Some are lucky to not have that, but overall it's a hand-built model after all.
I agree with the classification, but honestly bbr did not made a good job on F40, the shape of the body its not good! Excellent job to the AB (I'm pretty sure that's is the same the amalgam) and Kyosho!
The ab models is realy Nice and almost perfect , except the brakes ( lm track pack , Some real cars have them )and seatbelts need to be black instead of red . My model has a small defect on the rear bumper but the real car is not perfect either Number 76/100 but Im realy happy to have one .
I'm really jealous to those of you who got the first batch of AB F40, I had to get the one with decals and now I'm working on removing them! took me a few hours to remove one but it looks just great without them...
@@hmcdonnell23 I used water just in case (Ari from AB models suggested a bit of alcohol). I just scrapped it off, it took me a few hours (just the hood for today). Now it looks like the decal has never been there, no scratches.
@@hmcdonnell23 Also the clear coating is underneath, so it's pretty much the easiest case. Sometimes they clear coat on top, then you'd have to use nail polish removal of some sort which is dangerous for the paint. Not with this one though.
@@liordavidov Very good. I was concerned about residual adhesive left behind but doesn't appear the case. I feel more comfortable buying the one with decals now.
Why not open the the hood to look at the motor, consider to give value for the pop up lights on the Kyosho etc? Allt details all in? Was exspecting a better review from the beginning at the video...
It's the equivalent of what a Tamiya sculptors do, but in this case is a small crew of elitists designers making handmade models for sale, personally not a fan of that kind of job even if they look "accurate". if you want to see a good handmade model, try to find this user " 図解!なんでも制作日記" on youtube, he does the same but with an impressive amount of details, and everything is done by one person, and yes, his models have functional doors/hoods.
Next time, you could put pictures of the real car next to the pictures of the scale models: it would cost nothing and I'm sure it would be much much appreciated.
Rob, just want you to know that I really enjoyed your review. I don't think that I have ever seen such a comparison before. Bravo 👏

another awesome upload and nice collection you got there
Brought the AB model after watching your review mate ! Very detailed model indeed👍🏻
Enjoy it
Best model car reviews in youtube mate 👍🏻
Excellent comparison review which helps me in my decision making process before buying although the AB is sold out, but considering the anniversary offering even though, I'm not a fan of the decals on it.
Great video, be interesting to see how the D&G F40 compares
I have the D&G F40 LM and also BBR F40 LM's so I will do a video of the LM F40's
i'm a fan of kypsho but this AB i think might be the winner for me
Now take the "winner" of this 3 and put side by side with the diecast Kyosho version
The more you look at it the more flaws you notice on the BBR. For example, the upper horizontal "bezel" around the rear mesh has too much of a bend upwards if you know what I mean. It should be more square.
Great video. Also, the logos on the AB are waaaay better.
AB Models FTW !
perfect comparison👌

Looks soooo niceee
Did AB models make any other colors for the F40 besides red?
No
been looking for an f40 for a while, looks like ill have to wait till an AB comes up on ebay
AB models hands down for me mate!
just received my f40 by ab models 14/100 pieces, this model is definitely more superb than the kyosho high end resin.
Totally agree!
has he announced the winner of the five away ?
Do you have any videos on how to remove wheels from a diecast model? Such as an autoart brand?
Look in the 'How to' playlist
Это одна из моих любимых моделей!
Coooool. My AB came with a slight wave in the rear screen near the taillight making it look crooked. 😕 AB f40 #92
I think most of them have that wave, to be honest. Mine has that as well. But other than that, it's a perfect model.
@@modernshifter1735 Yep thats right. Look at 0:30 on the closer look video, you can see it is crooked.
you're not alone, mine is too. #82, same with a friend's
Hmm mine looks straight! 54/75

What is your error on your rear bumper? Mine is the mesh, it's wavy. Rob's also have that issue if you watch at his review of the AB F40.
Yes rear mesh seems to be a problem on these models
@@ROBSMODELCARS rear mesh is ok , the rear bumper doesnt fit with wheel arch .

AB wins even BBR completely. 1. AB 2. BBR 3. kyosho

would have been a better differentiator if you had photos of the the real thing among the three..
Why are closed models more expensive then the one where you can open all? They are much closer to the original
Why not open the the hood to look at the motor, consider to give value for the pop up lights on the Kyosho etc? Allt details all in? Was exspecting a better review from the beginning at the video...
These 3 models are all SEALED RESIN with NO openings as stated in the video.

The BBR’s shape is off, it just doesn’t look correctly proportioned and it’s too blocky, especially from the rear.
Next time, you could put pictures of the real car next to the pictures of the scale models: it would cost nothing and I'm sure it would be much much appreciated.
U really should get more colors of the F40 besides red yellow is start
Secondo me quella più dettagliata è AB MODELS
I'm disappointed in BBR
Già metto mi piace perché la f40 è la mia ferrari preferita da sempre
are you blind??? AB too small taillights,Chrome @ the wheels looks ridiculous...the only F40 that looks authentic over all is the Kyosho
Chrome is accurate to how the F40 wheels look on the outer lip. Kyosho doesn't have any of that.
