Hey Tomo, gun guy here: What I believe you're referring to on the 509 as a housing is the slide cap with wings. It's there to protect the iron sights in the event of contact, keeping them aligned. A few other pistols that are designed for use with suppressors use these types of shields as suppressor-height sights sit higher, and thus are more susceptible to unwanted misalignment if hit. The cap is removable on this model and can be replaced with a number of red dots/optics, where the iron sights will cowitness with the dot.
Sweet. I figured as much, I just don't think I've seen that particular wing design before so I was wondering if there was any other functionality than protecting the ironsights. Thanks for clarifying!
You mean the the functional sight protectors. Its also there to use as a catch to one hand reload the pistol in the event of being injured or shot in the hand. You can catch the wings on your boot or belt and rack that baby after swapping mags while holstered. I love my 45T and my 509T
@Tomographic use them to protect the red dots and to rack the slide in one-handed reloads. I use the FNH45T and 509C as my car guns all the time. Just in case I get my off hand injured, you can rack the slide on your belt, boot, pocket, or any object that catches the wings or the sight protectors. Just holster, press mag release to extract empty mag. Then replace full mag into flared mag well, tap in in firm. Unholster and rack the wings against any object to load a fresh round into the chamber. It's nice.

On the 509 those risers are there to have the option to rack the slide 1 handed like on a pantleg belt etc.

Fug's name is so perfect...I don't think you could possibly conceive of a word that more perfectly encapsulates the utter incompetence and abject obliviousness. I am amazed anyone could endure the amount of sheer aggravation he breeds at every attempt to achieve even the most mundane tasks. Stone may be a bit a bumbling idiot, but he's at least largely harmless, if not mostly amusing to watch. Fug seems like he'd need an instruction manual to claw his way out of a paper bag but still would refuse to read it.

The coffee Stone is talking about is a "Cortado" 🤣 Typically equal parts espresso and steamed milk. Like a tiny latté.

Part of the reason for the metal guards on the 509 is so you can use a table or solid surface to chamber the gun one handed without messing up the sights.

Second time I've seen you play this with Drewski and the milsim folks first and then playing with the FAST Crew. It certainly is a different viewing experience, it's a lot of fun to watch.
