Noooo! You wouldn't want to split matk and atk to maximize damage. Every unit other than Asta does damage based on a % of matk and atk!! You go all in on one to max it out! Splitting the two up kills you when you consider the percentage gains from the substats. If you take half your gear and give %atk substats to it to increase a low base attack you're missing out on so much damage if it had been applied to much much larger MATK total. 2% 10k 200, where 2% of 40k is 800. So every single one of those 2% atk substats is essentially shorting you 600 all attack damage.
