Awesome list for this fantastic PS1 platformer series!! Ever thought of compiling a Worst-to-Best list of robot-master (initial) stages from the classic console MM games - not the Wily castle/misc castle stages?? What about for the Reploid/Irregular stages in the X series!?
I know it's your opinion and I respect that. I just find it weird that someone thinks a level being hard Is a bad thing lol. The chalenging parts of a game will give you all the fun.
He said the difficulty in-and-of-itself wouldn't determine quality, if it was fair. The High Road is, at least in his opinion, not. Hope this clarifies it. :)
Stages with deathroutes that skipped the stage crystal required that you just through a life away to go back to the last checkpoint you came from. Dying doesn't mean you lose the gem or the crystal, if you collected them from the level, you have them. You just need to complete the level to clear collecting them.
I know that but people casually playing for the first time probably won't. It wouldn't have been hard for them to just put the crystal closer to the end of the level.
People would expect that, but Crash was designed to be casual, it's just if you wanted to go for that 100%, the game asks you to be far more perceptive and to think outside of the box normally to figure things out. Kids had to do this stuff in the 90s on the original game, it's nothing different from the original and I like that the game features both an experience for casual play and more rewarding play for those that take more risks and paying attention to your surroundings.
That's the thing though, if you went through the stage more naturally like most casual players would, you would run into the crystal. You have the choice to go out of the way of the main path to get the gem, because if you go off the path to get it, you are asking to take that challenge on purpose. Death routes usually have no boxes to smash, so if you hit a checkpoint not to far from it, getting the gem on it and then dying is never a total loss. You have the boxes you collected and you can continue back on the main route to get the crystal. It might sound like it's a challenge, but it's not, there's a reason your lives and masks actually end up being expendable among certain levels of the game, especially if your a speedrunner or going for the best time in the time trail. I'm not saying you should change the way you play, but the original designers of the game designed it around a varying level of skill ceilings across the board for many players.
If a first-time player happens to get past the death route and get the gem, that's a reward. But then they're sort of punished because they won't get the crystal and will have t o go through the level again. On some of these levels, it's not too hard to get to the death route, so there's a fair chance that this can happen. That's my biggest issue with those levels. I have seen speedruns for the games and throwing away a life to get the rest of the boxes is a pretty cool strategy. But, in my opinion, it should just be for boxes, not crystals. Because gems are optional and crystals are mandatory.
Omg my most hated is 1st 😂😂😂. Time trial was insanely hard considering poor controls and those nitro boxes where you park jet ski. Even hated it more than high road.
as someone who just finished the n. sane trilogy, bee-having should be way lower. it was infuriating because it doesn't seem like there's any consistent way to avoid being hit by the bees in sections where you can't dig. road to nowhere and the lab sucked too. what horrible difficulty spikes. in general, I had way more problems with the depth perception than you did.
Why do a lot of people think 'The High Road' and 'Road To Nowhere' are so hard? Don't get me wrong the first time you play them you might lose 30-50 lives but that's nothing to quit the game over. I came back to the N. Sane trilogy after a couple months break and I beat 'Road To Nowhere' losing 2 lives and 'The High Road' losing 4. You don't need to be perfect with the turtle placements or your jumps either just I guess 'good enough' Do most people suck that bad or am I just good? Not to brag but lol. I'm genuinely curious.
I agree, only the first time you play Crash 1 are all these levels hard. I never played Crash 1 so I was dying left and right the first time I did it lol. But after I got use to the levels I can do them easily now. I played Crash 1 again a few months ago and completed it very fast. I got platinum relics in all the levels again haha. It really isn't that hard.
Both of you are wrong, they are incredibly hard levels. Not to mention both of them feel broken on top of being ridiculously difficult. You’re really just that good or extremely lucky if you manage to beat them easily.
Lets also remind that the experience with the levels can change a lot depending on the version that you are playing. For the best experience I sugest the Nsane trilogy version for Crash 1 and the original ps1 versions for Crash 2 and 3. NST improved a lot Crash aside from the bridge levels, Toxic Waste and Sunset vista were some of the most frustrating levels ever in the original game because you can't predict at all the bouncing barrels in the original and you had to redo a freaking 20 minutes long stage every time you died in Sunset Vista. The high road and Road to nowhere is actually pretty manageable if you learn to keep momentum before each turtle jump, all you need to do is run a bit until you reach full speed before jumping on them. But NST actually made Crash 2 and 3 worse for me, for first most of Crash 2 levels werent made at all for running around in time trials(sewer and space station levels for example), the Icy physics were much better in the original and with that the snow elevels were much more fun, I freaking hate the Jetski and Pura phisics in NST, Ski Crazed and Hot Coco became my least favorite levels in the NST version of the games(yep more than the high road) they were perfect in the original game, the motorcicle stages are fine but the controls are just as bad in the original so...

I had a lot more trouble with road to nowhere instead of the high road
I know it's your opinion and I respect that. I just find it weird that someone thinks a level being hard Is a bad thing lol. The chalenging parts of a game will give you all the fun.
He put stormy ascent on the top 10 so
Jamie: the difficulty of the level won't determine if it's good or bad
Also Jamie: ThE hiGH rOad is bAd bEcaUse it'S tO hARd
I swear, the water jet levels should be at the bottom, realistic physics my ass.
He said the difficulty in-and-of-itself wouldn't determine quality, if it was fair. The High Road is, at least in his opinion, not. Hope this clarifies it. :)
You have eel deal/sewer or later/ hanging out music
Right, I agree with you there. But I think the added challenge should just be for gems. You shouldn't have to backtrack or purposely die for crystals.
If you give up because of the high road, you got no will power
Its true. I don't.
Bruh you must some lol
Omg my most hated is 1st 😂😂😂.
Time trial was insanely hard considering poor controls and those nitro boxes where you park jet ski.
Even hated it more than high road.
11:46 You kidding me? Fuck my life, I always wondered why this trap was such a difficulty spike, apparently it wasn't.
as someone who just finished the n. sane trilogy, bee-having should be way lower. it was infuriating because it doesn't seem like there's any consistent way to avoid being hit by the bees in sections where you can't dig. road to nowhere and the lab sucked too. what horrible difficulty spikes. in general, I had way more problems with the depth perception than you did.
High road being the worst is... Just wrong. We all know its great hall.
What you on about? Great Hall is easily No.1
I think crash 1 is the best because the gems aren't confusing
Where’s The Lost City? Did i blatantly miss it?
No, it was in there. I forgot where though.
#43 You can do what now?
Good review!
Me: There's no way air crash is #1 (aka the bane of my childhood) I must've missed it, there's no way
"Air crash music starts playing"
Me: Son a bit-
You can spin away the shrink orbs in piston it away? I feel enlightened. I never knew that and I've 100% the og trilogy and N Sane.
You can also spin away the wizard spells in Crash 3's medieval levels
Why did you start with the hardest level?
High Road was a great level
Bruhh you definitely smoking wax 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
8:49 WHAT THE FUCK
How did I never realize you could just jump on that box?
I always did a slide jump
The back of the box says over 100 levels...
They fudged the numbers by including boss battles in the count.
Bosses aren't levels
So you can sue them for false advertising
^ If anyone goes ahead and does this, give me a cut.
When everyone knows Cold Hard Crash is one of the best levels ever made but you have it at 84......
‘Best’? That’s a weird way to spell ‘bullshit’
The high road is not that hard
Yeah, I just use the rope
Yeah same lol
Its is hard if you want the relic
My top 7
7: Midnight run
6: the eel deal
5: toxic waste
4: orange asphalt
3: piston it away and spaced out
2: totally bear
1: unbearable
Top 86? Is that all of them?
Road Crash deserved to be at the very bottom
In my opinion 1. Is hog wild
I was about to sub as you had some very solid opinions and points but then you said “coco is a better waifu than tawna” 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿
