Sad, isn't it? I was born and raised in Baltimore, living there from 1950 to 1979, before taking a change in job location to southern MD. There were plenty of good (and safe!!) train watching spots in different parts of the city back then. Some I'd still consider relatively safe, others not so much. Though Baltimore has lost a lot of industry since those days and a good deal of local freight traffic with it. A good amount of street running existed due to that local traffic which has since dried up. A few of my favorite spots were at Bailey's Wye (shown in this video), and Montgomery Wards at Wash. Blvd. on the B&O, along with PRR, B&O, and Canton RR served areas on the eastside of town. The eastside locations I'd check out on lunch break as a field inspector for BG&E. The NEC just outside the city at Arbutus was also a favorite spot to catch both fast freight and passenger trains when the Knecht Ave. crossing was still open, since I lived over on the westside. Miss those days of train watching in Baltimore, but glad railfans are still filming there and posting the videos on TH-cam.

Is this a relatively safe area to railfan?
Not really.
@@Engine201 Figured not... Baltimore has turned into even more of a massive shithole in recent years.
