Having done an in-depth A-B comparison between the Fender Deluxe '65 reissue - (which I'd originally planned on purchasing) - and the Supro Royal - I was of the opinion that it beat the Fender for clarity and punch, hands down. Having been a successful professional singer-songwriter, musician and producer for decades, I trust my ears - however just to retain a sense of perspective, I also had two other musicians give the Supro a try. After they were both done with an A-B comparison, they were of the same opinion as me. I tried both amps plugged in directly, and also with an Egnater Goldsmith Overdrive/Boost pedal. Both amps performed well with the pedal, so no issues there. That said, with or without the pedal, I found the Supro was capable of sounding super- clean, as well as dirty - the Supro sounding clearer than the Fender and the break-up/distortion was more ballsy and not mushy at all. Also, importantly, when first switched on - (with no instrument being played) - the Supro was super-quiet, while the Fender did exhibit some noise. Don't get me wrong, I think the Fender is a very good amp, and I did like it, plus it's also a little cheaper price-wise than the Supro, but - by way of comparison - I honestly felt that the Supro had more depth and body. Bottom line - I'm so glad I gave the Supro a try and made the deicision to purchase it, since - in my opinion - it is a truly awesome sounding guitar amplifier. So, if you're in the market for a guitar amp in this category, look no further! Highly recommended.
John, technically I agree...much less technically! You compare and analyze much better than I could, to put sense into my own "Well this one just sounds better." It's gotten me through 51 years of playing and for any new player I would say pick up a Supro if you can, you will be very happy with your new old-school friend.
Brown eyed women and red grenadine. The bottle was dusty, but the liquor was clean. Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down. And it looks like the old man is gettin' on!
I thought the trem wasn't deep enough until he played the last song. WOW!! I can't see how these new Supros can't be a great success! Just clean enough for a good pedal platform, and just raunchy enough to plug straight in and use vol knob.
Can you imagine my horror when I inspected my new Royal Reverb on the next morning after picking it up and going straight to the gig and realizing I played the whole night with only one speaker wired up? Yup, it left the factory with only one speaker connected, no wires or anything on the unused speaker. At the gig I felt kind of underwhelmed and something didn't seem quite right. I wonder if any damage was done to the chassis by playing this way (we weren't playing that loud). Anyway, it wasn't that easy to connect with the Absara people but they did send me the exact missing wire and connectors free of charge, but by that time I had already wired the speaker myself. I hope they and I both learned something from this experience.
I've only ever heard Supro amps in a dirty context, a la Dan Auerbach, but wow. I'm a "clean tone" chaser and want that warm, round cleans from a Fender style circuit. I just talked to a local musician who has the same taste and he uses this exact amp and couldn't praise it enough as a higher quality substitute to a Fender. I'mm definitely be saving for this guy. So round, punchy and warm.
@lefty wolf It's a Reverend guitar. Looks like a Club King 290 but they don't seem to offer that color, or Bigsby. I'm not 100% sure, they have too many models.
Florian Späth * The stop that you bought it from wasn't guitar center was it ? That sound like some dumb ass shit that they would say at Guitar center, "yeah that little cracking noise is cus ALL THE Tubes are broken" 🤣 The people who work at Guitar center NEVER really know what they are talking about when it comes the function of the instrument and amplification so DON'T take ANYTHING they say for real, and if you didn't get it at Guitar center who ever you got out from is either lacking tube amp basics or just enjoys talking nonsense.
@@firemarshal2629 Exactly. Even if it's put together in the U.S., it's still made with parts sourced from all over the world and especially China where parts are made at the cheapest of costs.
+George S Takes mine very well. Run JHS/Fulldrive/RAT/Boss DD-20/various compressors and stuff. I prefer it on the 45W mode for pedals. Just for straight up fun then plug in direct on 35W. But it all depends. The 60W is super clean and hardly any sag on it so a lot of people say that's perfect for a foundation of pedals. But I like the natural sag so it's just preference.

I love my Royal Reverb
Intro song is Blueboy by John Fogerty. Andy really knows a million songs, doesn't he? Great demo as usual!
Couldn't name the song, but even if it's never heard it before, dang right I'd know it was Fogerty.
Your demos are some of the best...

Wow, a Grateful Dead tune… How appropriate for this summer's last Dead shows… The bends at 3:32 kill me! Sounds sweet Andy...

Always cool to sneak in those I Feel Fine chords!
Super excited. Just ordered this beauty and I love the Dead cover!
How are you liking it?

It's definitely got more mids than your standard BF Fender.
I've noticed that Rebbeca Dirks is no longer listed as a contributing member of Tone Report - will she ever return to PGS?
Brown Eyed Women! (Grateful Dead). Going to any of the Fare Thee Well dead shows Andy?

Andy kills ever other guitar product reviewer.
does anyone know how this would compare to a deluxe reverb in terms of headroom/volume? thanks
Somebody release me from this utter despair and tell me what the last song is please.
Guitarist cool !!! Constantly looking surveys often because of his game ...

Florian Späth it’s not made in the US, it’s assembled in the US. Same way EhX pedals are assembled in the US out of China made parts.

Nice sounding amp
Brown Eyed Women!!! Yes!!!
Great Review!! Does anyone know if this amp takes pedals well? :-)
