I have Cherokee purple and san marzanos growing in the back yard along with a giant bush of sweet basil that smells amazing. Can't wait for those greenies to ripen up.
My favorite salad. The cheese, tomatoes and olive oil are the true stars of this salad. Wine and bread truly make a complete meal. I even go to Whole Foods to buy "Buf" which is similar to the buffalo mozzarella. I have to admit I'm not a balsamic vinegar fan with this dish. Living in southern Italy for a few years it wasn't drizzled on the salad. Summer was made for this dish.
Tomatoes with a little salt, fresh mozzarella, basil and the best olive oil you can buy. Anything else isn't actually in the recipe. You asked! But I'd like it with balsamic once in a while. The acid really comes from the tomatoes and salt. Love your channel!
Every time my husband and I go to Key West we always go to my favorite restaurant (Red Fish Blue Fish) order our Shrimp Po-Boy and a Caprese salad!😍😍😍 YUMMY!
It’s a rustic salad so those tomatoes are perfect.. I’ve made this salad but I put it on a large toothpicks and served it individually....salad on a stick was very popular..
I have 6 different versions of Caprese salad on my blog and I ran here to see you ssembling the easiest most delicious Italian dish! Does this means I love Caprese or your videos or both! I guess I love you chico!
Heirloom tomatoes are so incredibly beautiful and delicious! I’m a big fan of individual servings. Buffets are not my thing at all for various reasons (largely dietary and hygiene related). I absolutely adore caprese salad and now I wish I had the ingredients to make it tomorrow for my birthday dinner!
Simple but oh so satisfying. Remember to sprinkle salt on tomatoes to bring out flavour And you can use Thai basil for a slight lemon flavour or original Italian sweet basil.
Making this tomorrow, thanks for the recipe! Have you tried a tomato corer? They're also good for strawberries and artichokes. Less hazardous than my knife skills.
I agree a tomato corer is useful little tool. I tend to agree with Alton Brown about disliking uni-tasker tools in the kitchen but in the case of the tomato or strawberry corer I make an exception.
My Husband is Italian (from Firenze) and we live in Spain. We eat this all the time. We call those tomatoes, tomatoes (not heirloom) and we would not use balsamic vinegar, put it on the table in case someone wants it, but its too strong a flavor for this salad. You could use some Oregano on it though. Serve it along side a good bread and that famous Spanish cured ham with melon and we eat this all summer when we are not making a bar BBQ
I’m sure it’s all wrong, but I julienne my basil for this salad. I just find it makes it easier to eat and distributes the basil better. (I’m so not Italian! Scottish/American)
Hey my name is sophia and I love. Your videos I’ve been trying to search the Internet to find easy rhubarb pie recipe that taste delicious but all the recipes and videos online or either a super old and the clarity of the videos bad or be there over complicated and when I tried to make them the flavor didn’t come through could you please make a rhubarb pie recipe for me?🍰
I dont know if this was mentioned below, but isnt the point of a Caprese Salad that the colours of the ingredients the same as the colours of the Italian flag? Therefore, although I also love heritage tomatoes, wouldn't it be best to use red heritage tomatoes only? I love your videos John and your sense of humour.

Also thank you for not having any crazy music in the background

Simple but oh so satisfying.
Remember to sprinkle salt on tomatoes to bring out flavour
And you can use Thai basil for a slight lemon flavour or original Italian sweet basil.
Remember to generously SALT your tomatoes, it's a crime and life changing step. Heirloom tomatoes deserve the respect.

Hey John, I wonder if using a little petite four cutter would help with the cube thing...looks yummy.

Color doesn't matter, als long as the tomatoes are tasty. (They look decent.)
