@ Travis Williams. Your TH-cam settings are preventing me from replying to you directly, but to answer your question - yes, if the ration is in good shape it all gets finished off camera :-)
Kiwi Dude lets vote for "soon"! HAHAHA j/k I see your viewers comments are starting to talk more about her, less of you or the MREs. I think the 'Crystal ball' is starting to roll! :D
Your daughter is so adorable! She absolutely stole the show. Very good review and much obliged. Cheers from Colorado, USA ~ Daniel PS: I never met a Kiwi I didn't like. ; - )
Hi Daniel, Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed the video. Crystal certainly is the talent behind this operation, I'm just the chimp operating the camera. With only 4.4 million of us, running into a Kiwi can be a rare thing (just like the bird). I'm happy to hear that the ones you've met have been good'uns ;-) Cheers, KD.
I don't think you realize how lucky you get with these. The jalapeño cheese spread is one of the most coveted items there are and you have got them almost every time haha
And here I am thinking they're the norm as opposed to the exception. You can bet I'll get a stream of MRE's without them now we've chatted about it ;-) The jalapeno spread is the best. Love it.
The FSR may be this Monday or Tuesday (having a long weekend), but if the stars don't align I'll do a 'normal' review through the week and save the FSR for the weekend. Takes a bit of planning with the FSR, as I intend to eat nothing but the ration for the whole day (albeit broken up in the multiple videos). Can't wait to crack into it though ;-)
We were always encouraged to take on extra calories during our stints of cold weather training in Yakima, Washington. It was nice not sweating half to death for a change...
You could skewer a wild boar with that knife.Thought for sure you were going to lose a finger or two. These are like TV dinners for soldiers but you make them look so good.Keep up the vids...
Great vid man, your little girl there is really cute!! Just like to point out that I think you were mistaken with the cappuccino its not a hot chocolate its more of a strong coffee, but once again great vids and keep up the good work! :D (or the 'boss' might fire you! ;) )
I really enjoy your vids especially since you take the time to make it right and plate it out then it looks like damn good meal, gundog has a habit kf eating it cold which bothers me, of course its not gunna be that good if its not heated but still the mre community makes good vids keep it up yall 👌👌
I wish I was adventurous with tasting food as Crystal is when I was a child. I'm not big fan of freeze dried food but that Turkey Tetrazzini looks very good.
Lol.. I wouldn't have eaten half the stuff she does when I was 10, and she's only 4! I also didn't realise quite how far freeze dried food had come until I tried that Turkey Tetrazzini, so I'm really looking forward to trying the Back Country Cuisine entrees.
Gungod is great but I prefer Kiwi Dude's format for reviewing MREs :-) which doesn't mean I don't watch his videos I do but only now and then whereas I love all of Kiwi's vids -)
Heat the cheese up with the main meal. Its so much better. At some point, most of us usually just mashed everything together anyways. I'd love to have a bunch of the earlier Chicken and Salsa MREs.
one of the best ways to kneed the cheese or peanut butter that comes in these things is to roll it between both your hands. gets it perfect every time pretty quick.
Nope, some kids are REALLY picky about their foos. Toddlers will sometimes even refuse to eat if their plate hasn´t "the right" colour of if their sandwich isn´t cut "the right way".
im glad i stumbled into your videos lol very good stuff. im going on a camping trip soon and havent decided what type of food to take with me. do u reckon its worth taking one of these on a camping trip? it sure looks like it'll make one hell of a delicious meal after a long day or trekking lol
I was really impressed with the turkey tetrazzini! That's a lot of food! But, in artic like conditions, how would you find hot water if there is no FRH included?
Vikas Sheth It really impressed me too. Portion size and taste was perfect. You'd definitely need access to hot water, fire or an engine block with this one. I guess it could be eaten dry if desperate though.
Cool. My only thought about why they freeze dried the food is this. So as to reduce the moisture so it won't freeze and possibly damage the container. And the high calorie content. The human body burns more calories in cold weather than in hot weather
spot on. these should really say Meal Extreme Cold Weather as you'll see these more in places like Alaska. even when I was in the middle of a German winter with a foot or two of snow on the ground and temps below freezing, these weren't issued to us. I can't even remember seeing them in our warehouse when I had to make runs back to garrison.
Great review Kiwi Dude and your boss is absolutely adorable! I'm rationtin440 on MREinfo.com forums btw. Do you recall or have you ever tried the original, cold war era, two-pouch cold weather rations (U.S.)? They came in the form of 2 pouches per ration menu and included such delicacies as the oatmeal, cornflake and chocolate chip cookie bars. I think the RCW is alot better tasting than those older cold weather meals. They are almost as hard to find these days as Pillsbury Space Food Sticks!
Hi David, great to see you over here, I've read lots of your posts. I haven't tried any cold war vintage rations, but I'm hoping to wind back the clock in the near future with some 90's gear :-) I really enjoyed this particular MCW. My expectations were low to begin with, but it knocked it out of the park.
At the main food,or what was that stew,i don't know what was it,i thought is was "ciulama" something that is made with mushrooms and i don't know,i am a kid,i don't know recipes, and here in Romania i know my grandma cooks it
What an absolutely gorgeous little girl! Chinese and Caucasian combined make some nice facial features. She looks a lot like my daughter, but mine isn't of Asian descent, pretty much all English. Also, she loves to eat anything, especially spicy foods.
Kiwi Dude There are currently no actual US laws that prevent the sale of MREs to civilians. However, I believe there are military regulations that exist that state that soldiers cannot sell MREs for personal profit. Not sure if this is the answer you're looking for, but I hope it helps.
Crystal is smart! You do know that cappuccino IS coffee, right? She's smelled the coffee you drink, and could taste it right away, And she's adorable, too
MsKestrela Thanks. I do know that cappuccino is coffee, but I often suffer from reviewer's 'brain fade' ;-) Fortunately, Crystal helps prop the team up.
Kiwi Dude Of all the MRE reviewers, I enjoy yours the most. Not the least because of the adorable Crystal and her adventuresome spirit. Keep up the good work, Dude.
Kiwi dude i need your input on the MRE matter. Is it more viable to store canned food or buy MREs? I don't live in the US or Europe, and MRE could only be bought via Amazon which costs roughly 80 USD for 12 packs. Is it worth it?
Doge Style It's hard to beat cans for longevity, but it all comes down to the contents and the environment in which it was canned. At least with MRE's you know that there's been some science invested into ensuring the contents will last longer than their store-bought counterparts, and I'm sure there's some pretty tight controls around the preparation and packaging. If you can find a case of MRE's that are relatively new and have been stored in a cool environment - they will last a long time.
MREs arent really made to be stored long term. they're intended mostly to be packaged, issued, and eaten. they are made to last a few years at least for obvious reasons, but not to be stored for 5+ years, plus most of the MREs ive bought on the civilian market are already approaching their experation.
Love simple meals with substantial main (sorry im no yankee so I refuse to say entree here) and few but quality snacks. I dislike those ration with a pile of snacks. Freeze dried main usually contains a lot too!
@ no salt... I'm assuming you don't have the package anymore, but if you happen to come upon another one of these, look at the sodium content of the entree, it's pretty epic... I want to say somewhere around 50% +/- the USDA recommended amount ;)
Particular To C.W. MRE's, because most Joe's don't realize how dehydrated they can get in Cold Weather, and apparently sodium helps to maintain water intake (says an honor grad of the AMWS) Thanks for all the vids btw, great stuff! I've eaten too many of the U.S. stuff, it's nice to see what our NATO/ANZAC friends, and others have to offer :)
You seem to like almost everything you try, but I always thought these things would be kinda idk artificial tasting or something? Like I imagine them to be functional and nourishing rather than necessarily tasty? Are you just not a very fussy eater or are MREs genuinely pretty nice?
Rrrrrose Good question. I don't reference them against home-cooked or restaurant food, so I go into these reviews with an 'expect nourishment' mindset and most of time come away pleasantly surprised with how they delivered on taste. To give you a better idea, if the Wife and kids are out and I'm hungry at home, it takes an awful lot of willpower to avoid cracking into an MRE ;-)
Wow.. if that's the case then I'm even more impressed! I wasn't sure when the MCW had merged with the LRP. gundog4314 might be able to confirm as he was nice enough to flick me this one.
Kiwi Dude if so it it very good, but i don't know since i have never tasted an mre and unfourtiently i don't know were to get an mre and i have looked on ebay and amazon but the shipping was some what expensive...
Kiwi Dude ok.... at 5:15 you picked up the gum and at the bottom I thought you made a mistake and said it was salt and pepper and that confused me. but you meant no salt and pepper in the entire MRE, my bad.
There's no one answer to that one. You can learn a lot from TH-cam and there's great info on www.mreinfo.com too. Those two are probably the best sources if you haven't been (or don't know anybody) in the service.
Kiwi Dude I've already had dreams that were solely about eating MREs so I don't think I need to be addicted to more :P Oh and I'm about to make a vid that's involves You, gundog, and gschultz. I hope you'll like it :3
I ❤️ These Reviews Kiwi, Keep Them Up!
Thanks Cesar :)
Kiwi Dude IT MAKE SUPER HUNGRY AT NIGHT
@ Travis Williams. Your TH-cam settings are preventing me from replying to you directly, but to answer your question - yes, if the ration is in good shape it all gets finished off camera :-)
+Kiwi Dude Hey i love your videos. Why isnt there a flame less ration heater in the cold weather MRE? Or a way to melt snow to make hot water?
does that end up being a majority or minority?
+Aaron Adams lol should have scrolled just a bit down, that's exactly what i was thinking
Man I have been trying to get my hands on these. So lucky you have them! Love your vids keep them up! :D
Thanks, glad you're liking the vids. I have to credit gundog4314 for the hook-up. He really came through!
Great review. Loving your vids mate, and your little girl seems to be a future MRE reviewer too! Great stuff :)
Thanks, glad you like them! And yep - she'll be pushing old Dad aside sometime soon. Haha.
Kiwi Dude lets vote for "soon"! HAHAHA j/k I see your viewers comments are starting to talk more about her, less of you or the MREs. I think the 'Crystal ball' is starting to roll! :D
i love tetrazzini. we always make tetrazzini with left over turkey after thanksgiving :)
In your video's the "cook" is okay, but the little taster at the end is Fantastic! keep up the good work. Your fan in America.
Haha, thanks Dan. I have to admit she's the talent in this partnership! :)
Your daughter is so adorable! She absolutely stole the show. Very good review and much obliged.
Cheers from Colorado, USA ~ Daniel

First you want the hiss then you want two perfect squares ... which I immediately break apart ... lol kiwi dude you are a legend :-)
Everytime you shake something and don't say "get your shake on." a piece of me dies inside.
hellhammerCCCP Lol... You can bet I'll be thinking of this comment next time there's a drink to shake ;-)
I like how she tilts her head down and tilts the glass up it's pretty cute
Julia Hunter :-)
Very nice video(: The MCW is always an interesting meal.
Thanks. I was amazed at just how tasty that freeze-dried entree was. Glad there was so much of it!
Kiwi Dude 16oz of Tetrazzini is always a pleasant sight :D. Can't wait for the FSR.
The FSR may be this Monday or Tuesday (having a long weekend), but if the stars don't align I'll do a 'normal' review through the week and save the FSR for the weekend. You should do some more mcw's they really seem like their in a league of their own when it comes to entrees
Joey Delma I'd love to. For a freeze dried entrée, this really blew me away.
freeze dried entrees sure do have a lot of food in them though
canelope I agree. You end up with huge portion sizes, and when they're tasty like this - awesome!
Very good review. Looks like a potpie without the crust. Im sure these kept soliders filled and warm.

Lol imagine dropping it in snow your be stuffed if u can't find it
Apparently these MCW rations are designed to last longer than regular MREs, owing to their freeze dried nature.
Great Review!!!.....didn't come with many items but all that Turkey makes up for it...lol..
Thanks. That Turkey sure did bring the goods!
The best kids meal in the military menu !!!! Facts 💯
Rubik's Cube ration bag, i love it lol!
I really enjoy your vids especially since you take the time to make it right and plate it out then it looks like damn good meal, gundog has a habit kf eating it cold which bothers me, of course its not gunna be that good if its not heated but still the mre community makes good vids keep it up yall 👌👌
Colten Meyer Cheers. Glad you're enjoying them. This MCW blew me away with the taste and portion size.

The very first one of these that I've had, had an "Ice cream Sandwich".I thought it was a prank.
one of the best ways to kneed the cheese or peanut butter that comes in these things is to roll it between both your hands. gets it perfect every time pretty quick.
trijigon I'll have to try that. Cheers!
You know what they say "desert is always first"!
why the fuck would you eat a region consisting of mostly sand
"Those corners are tricky"
Ah man,that looks sooo good.
That's a pretty fresh MCW
It tasted great. The cheese spread was the best I've seen too, so a new baseline for comparing the rest!
as someone who is damn near Terrified of children.. especially in large groups... I trust the bosses reviews above any ration reviewer on youtube
It seems the girl likes every single food you provide.
Adriel Sjahfiedin There's only been a few things she hasn't liked.
Thx. It is my real name.
Nope, some kids are REALLY picky about their foos. Toddlers will sometimes even refuse to eat if their plate hasn´t "the right" colour of if their sandwich isn´t cut "the right way".

Thanks :)
Chicken tetrazini was one of my favorites, didn't have turkey version.

thegoon459 Military rations are the PERFECT camping food in my opinion. So absolutely - go for it :-) Enjoy the trip.
Hi! Kinda new to the channel and like the reviews! Definitely gonna SUB

Omg! I thought I was the only one who remembered Pillsbury Space Food Sticks :D
The entree in the MCW are Mountainhouse freeze dried meals. Many flavors available!
Ok, well that's certainly a big tick for Mountainhouse so far! I'm glad there was a lot of it too.

It was seriously good food. Got me in the mood to source some locally produced freeze-dri products. Videos coming soon!

Nice vid man
Thanks, glad you liked it Darin. You must be quick on the trigger, you're the first view :)
Why do all U.S. MRE's say "Government property, commercial retail is unlawful." when they are readily available in surplus stores and the like?
tim h Hmm, good point. I guess that warning scares off any large-scale black-market trading? Hopefully someone in the know will chime in.
Kiwi Dude There are currently no actual US laws that prevent the sale of MREs to civilians. However, I believe there are military regulations that exist that state that soldiers cannot sell MREs for personal profit. Not sure if this is the answer you're looking for, but I hope it helps.
judgement9999 Thanks for that. Good to know.
your making me hungry!! any meals you havent gad that you wanna try? my hubby works on base and u have easy acsess to em
That's a brave little girl
Those used to be called LRRP rats or Ranger Rats, but I never saw one until now.
It was really nice. Gundog4314 is a legend for hooking me up.
5:19 tabasco is probaly the substitute good video too

+Fluffy Dread5181 Why throw it away,i assume he eats it
Love simple meals with substantial main (sorry im no yankee so I refuse to say entree here) and few but quality snacks. I dislike those ration with a pile of snacks. Freeze dried main usually contains a lot too!

Kiwi Dude hello!:)
abigail duran Hi!
Nice video good job
Thanks :)
Have you tried the squad sized rations yet?
Donnie M Not yet, but sounds like a good excuse for a ration party!
I wonder why the package is white outside but inside are the regular brown packs.
woosnext Good point. Seems to defeat the purpose.
White is for camo I presume, and you don't eat forward an enemy so we don't care about the interior
iTheGeek maybe for the clod theme idk xD
Pretty sure the MCW is from 2003 but the main meal is freeze dried so it doesn't really matter.
Wow.. if that's the case then I'm even more impressed! I wasn't sure when the MCW had merged with the LRP. gundog4314 might be able to confirm as he was nice enough to flick me this one.
what's wrong with not using scissors? thought u were going to chop ur fingers off for a sec there lol! ;p
ihaveyuidonttouchme Lol.. I really need a better knife.
big boss approves the meal !! haahh
BillAlreadyExist Sure did!
This made me soo hungry :c
Fr3dinator It was amazingly good for freeze dried food.
i saw that gschultz9 have 2 mcw videos but his mcw's were from 2005.
the compaq nerd These MCW's are great. They have the potential (at least with the entrees) to last a LOT longer than the normal retort pouch meals.
Kiwi Dude
if so it it very good, but i don't know since i have never tasted an mre and unfourtiently i don't know were to get an mre and i have looked on ebay and amazon but the shipping was some what expensive...
the compaq nerd Where in the world are you located?
Kiwi Dude
i will send you a pm about were i'm located
I got sick of the main meal during my ftx last weekend
Hey kiwi dude I was wondering, where do you get the m.r.e's
Juan Cantu ebay
Tiffony Dawson, thanks. I'm thinking of starting my own m.r.e. review channel
That was definitely coffee and not just jot chocolate. The cappuccino denotes it as a coffee (or coffeve) chocolate beverage. 😂😂
Wait so you thought it was gum, does that mean you ate it and got a surprise?
or did you find out before eating it?
Sorry mate, it's been a while since I filmed this one, which piece do you mean? I'm interested to watch that part again to give you a proper answer.
Kiwi Dude ok.... at 5:15 you picked up the gum and at the bottom I thought you made a mistake and said it was salt and pepper and that confused me. but you meant no salt and pepper in the entire MRE, my bad.
was there an alarm going off at 18:35?
adorable
Young children eating MRE's causes excessive cuteness.
You better stop... the little girl is gonna' grow up and give you a lot of grief!
What do you do with these when you have no source of hot water around?
+SirToby1076 They could be eaten dry. Not pleasant, but no doubt better than the Silkworm Pupa I recently ate! Lol.
+Kiwi Dude Pupae are fking delicious wat are u smoking?!
Just boil it yourself by a field stove, maybe a camping alcohol stove
Why did I have the feeling that this video was about a Turkish MRE? Haha
Lol.. You thought it might have been Turkish, and I kept calling it Chicken!
ChemicalFun27 I hope to try one some day.
Oh look something that came from where i live and is actually half decent.
Surprise...
Ashley Nightt It was amazing for freeze-dried food.
How did you learn about MRES
There's no one answer to that one. You can learn a lot from TH-cam and there's great info on www.mreinfo.com too. Those two are probably the best sources if you haven't been (or don't know anybody) in the service.
ok cool
Question: why does U S MRE gum dissolve in my mouth?
frankovito it's old
how much a mcw holds up
Not enough coffee :)
Good video (:
Emily Hickman Thank you.
Welcome!
shes so adorable!
Thank you :)
Love your movie
andrew heuft Cheers!
How much do mres cost in US dollars?
Hi there, you can pick them up for around $7 USD. Check out Armygear.net
Unfortunately they don't ship internationally.
Kiwi Dude ;)
Is this food from Turkey or is the food Turkey ?
The food is Turkey.
Kiwi Dude ohh okay XD hahahahahahahah that sounds funny haha
OMG SHE'S SO CUTE!
Giorgi Ostatishvili Thank you :)
I love children
I want to start making these, but no one will even respond to me. it makes it difficult.
Why don't you go fuck yourself?
Seth Bowser I would like to see and I subscribed
@Samurai Shampoo sorry to bust your bubble, but this is far from unique lol.
@Pandora yeah, there's a few made.
wow your little girl is adorable and beautiful ^-^
Thanks, she's a great little munchkin!
Poor rock or something... He was left out of this video. :(
He was still in contract negotiations. Rock Stars can be such Divas!
Smart girl u have there:)
Joey Delma Thank you.
Saw one of these on ebay. 20 fucking dollars (me, 23.55 for you). They're rare but screw that XD
Yikes. Thanks again to gundog4314 for hooking me up. They ain't cheap!
Kiwi Dude Yeah looks like all the ones on EBay are 20 damn dollars. One guy does have a deal of 12 for 200.
They are kind of addictive. You probably wouldn't regret getting a case, as you'll definitely want more after the first one ;-)
Kiwi Dude I've already had dreams that were solely about eating MREs so I don't think I need to be addicted to more :P Oh and I'm about to make a vid that's involves You, gundog, and gschultz. I hope you'll like it :3
***** Lol.. Yep - I think you should definitely get a case! :-) Looking forward to your vid.
Do mre no.19
