Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China. This is such a wonderful tutorial! Even my old eyes can see the moves. Thank you, it is not easy to try a new binding when I have put so much time into the pages I want to include and fear that I might mess up.
That's great to hear! I had never done the Coptic stitch before and felt really intimidated by it, even as I was sitting right next to Eloise watching her do the demo. I had to test the tutorial to make sure the video editing was working, and I tried it step by step following the video and was pleasantly surprised that it worked! I think the inside of the covers look messy. I do the outside of the covers first. I fold the inside cover paper over card stock the size of the covers less 1/4 “ and glue the inside paper to the inside of the covers. Makes a tidy inside cover.🦌💌❤️📚

I was taught to stitch the last signature and the cover on at the same time, with the thread coming back in the last signature and ending up there at the end, but this looks a lot easier so I'm going to try this. This was an excellent tutorial. I loved having someone less experienced there to ask all the little questions.

This is by word exactly what I was going to say. Clear and concise 100%
I started making my own journals at 14 out of scrap and packaging pagers, used needle and thread, old national geographic pages of birds glued over old cardboard, still have the first ones, with my 14 yr old thoughts, now over 50 years later they're still in good shape! These are good ideas but if you can't afford somethings just improvise!

If you make sure to match grain of paper to book board, and glue the paper rather than the board, you can reduce warping.

Can you tell us how think point wise the board your using.
Do you punch the signature page holes in the same way the cover was done except in the crease? Or should they be larger holes?
