Thanks for sharing this Lou. My Dad bought a 65 Impala 2 Dr.hardtop new. He took delivery 5/29/65. It was a 283 3 on the tree. He did order it with a 4:11 rear end. I remember being real young, sitting in the back seat mimicking the sound of that 3 speed,as he went through the gears. Lots of great memories. Thanks again Lou.
Good interview Lou. You let them tell their story. I like how you took time on their story board. Good coverage of the interior. The care is awesome and that these are the original owners is amazing. One of my favorite 60's Impalas.
I've been thinking same thing. U do a great job interviewing collector car owners. Ask a question and let them tell their story..... ask another question when they pause. That way owner & u aren't talking over each other constantly. Even so-called pro news people don't know that anymore.
The owner really knows his stuff. He's absolutely correct about the 3.31 - M21 combo. The car would get a better jump with a M20 wide ratio, with it's deeper 1st gear. Fantastic!!!! car. Thx so much for preserving it.

What’s really exciting to me is the story the love that you and your wife share together and share a beautiful car as well I am 43 years of age and I am looking for a classic car to buy myself for me and my wife. I am super Duper picky but the car that I’m looking for is a 1966 true Super sport impala with the original 396 big block and I will wait patiently for the opportunity to come. People nowadays have no appreciation for classic vehicles thank you for the opportunity to view your video.

What an awesome Ride!!. Back in '72 or so, an older friend of mine had a 283 SS ''65 Impala as his first car. Once the gas crisis hit a few years later the Vacuum gauge on the console wasn't so fun to watch. He actually sold his copper tone beauty and bought a VW Beetle!. Sad deal. The "65 Impala has always been a fave.

ABSOLUTELY THE FINEST FASTEST CAR I EVER OWNED, IT ATE THE GTO'S AND BIG BLOCK MOPARS FOR BREAKFAST, RAN IT AT THE LOCAL DRAG STRIP AND OUT OF THE BOX TURNED A13.2 AT 106 MPH!! WHAT A RIDE!

Lou one of my uncles had the same car as this in green! He bought it new and one time he came down to Arizona in it to visit us! I was totally impressed with that car! And this one after all those years in amazing condition and original red too boot! For Impalas it doesn't get any better than this! Thanks for posting such a cool car!
A beautiful and rare car! The owner says at about 7:05 that he traded in a 58 Impala for this car, my dad did the same thing! Dad`s 58 had the 348 with Turboglide and Level Air suspension. His 65 SS was Artesian Turquoise with a white interior, 327 and Powerglide. He put clear plastic covers on the seats and they were in perfect condition when he sold it in 1973.
Hi Alan, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car and appreciate the rarity of seeing this one too. Glad to read this story reminds you of your Dad's exact situation. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Gorgeous car.....makes me miss my "Evening Orchid" '65 SS. This is my favorite Impala year....and remember them when they came out back then. I had 3 red taillights on each side in the back, because it looked really cool at night. ;-)
Hi Leroy, Happy to read "Beautiful car love these cars" :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of the guy you graduated withs car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I was 12 years old when these new 65s came out. At first I preferred the boxy 62-64 Impalas. Now I appreciate the flowing curvy lines of this model, absolutely gorgeous!! Thanks Lou for bringing this one to You Tube 😎
Great memories! I drove the same car in high school (early 70s). My grandfather purchased it new, after he passed away my dad owned it and I got to drive it until it was sold... loved that ride ... miss it still today. My other "wish I had it back" car was a 67 Camaro ... owned it in college (late 70s).
I’m seeing this for the first time in June, 2021. Where on Earth is this extraordinary car today? I was 16 when it was built so it brings back some wonderful memories.

HEY GM! Bring back the '65-'66 Impala and Caprice! Let it have the 21st century safety equipment, keep it mostly original, then leave it alone and sell it to the public and watch what happens 😉
Super clean. I just got a 65 SS that's in good condition. Got it with no title and just got the title for it. I'm super excited. Mine is a 327 power glide car.
Very nice couple 🙂 ... and an exceptional car. I think that may be one of, if not the smoothest, best sounding classics I've yet to see 👍 My dad bought a new, two door fastback '65 Impala, white with blue interior. I can't help but have a special fondness for those cars 😉
Great walk through on the car. Such beautiful simplicity! I love the lope of the engine. It shows the nature of that cam and how it can breathe. My dad had a ‘65 Olds 88 with an ultra high compression 425. That thing was a 4-door beast ;)
Glad you enjoy the walk through on this car masaleep :-) Thank you for details on your Dad's 65, and hope you see many more cars on this TH-cam Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Hi Lou, while viewing this edition of MCS I heard you say your Dad purchased as his first new car a 1965 BelAir and the first car I drove (all by myself) after getting my drivers license was also my parents 1965 four door BelAir (purchased new at a Chevy dealer in Yonkers, NY) with a straight six and (IIRC) a two speed automatic tranny (which I burned out twice on them!!!). That car was an aqua color inside and out and has always occupied a soft spot in my heart. Love your channel by the way! Jim Shaw, Aurora, IL
Hi Jim Shaw, Thank you for viewing and sharing, and although the 1965 my Dad purchased new and I drove as my first car was a 2 door and it had that same aqua color inside and out :-) Happy to read you're loving the Channel, Lou
I bought an identical 65 Impala SS back in 1973 off a Chevy dealership lot , it also had the 396 but not the 425 horse , the car dealer said it was an original 375 horse , ( I do know it had a solid cam ) , it had all matching numbers , 35,000 original , purchase price was 1495.00 , monthly payments were 55.00 a month /3 years . The one difference was mine had the turbo automatic , the only draw back to this car was it was factory equipped with a 2.63 rear gear , which I had replaced with a 4.10 gear , appliance headers . And traction bars , it would pass everything but a gas station , I wish I still had it , 😢
Lou, I cannot believe that the beautiful white interior was kept that well I know the car has only 28K but WOW. They still dry, discolor, crack, you know, and original exhaust??? OMG! I would be embarrassed to have my first new car I bought at 18 at the dealer if it were in that condition people would laugh. 80' cougar XR-7 but the one I traded '73 Fleetwood with 63K I should of kept that ran like new and looked new. Thanks LOU!
The first new car my folks bought was a ‘65 Impala wagon. They ordered it from factory. 327-4 bbl, 2 speed auto, power steering, dash trim package, seat belt retractors, AM radio, roof rack, power tailgate window, deluxe wheel covers. It was Sierra Tan exterior and Saddle interior. We had it for 3 years and sold it after we bought a ‘68 Pontiac LeMans. My dad was not happy with the wagon as he said it would wander and needed to be constantly steered and corrected on its path.
I have a gold 65 Impala ( non SS ) 409 C.I. with a power glide transmission. Beige bench seat, A/c,power steering, power brakes. From what I have been able to find out, there was about 647 409 engines on the factory line and a person wearing a suit told the assembly workers to get rid of the 409 engines. He told them to put the 409,s in the Impala’s until they run out AND then use the 396 engines. I have only seen 2 other 409 engines in 65 Impala’s ( on Tv - chip foose ). My car is all original never been overhauled. The interior is 7-10 and the body paint is 4- 10. Never been wrecked. Thanks

Thats a pretty rare ride as they only put the 396 in about 1800 cars in that platform in 65. That includes wagons, convertibles, the Caprice, Belair and Biscayne....Of those 1800 it is unclear how many of those were the 425 horse variety but I am guessing not many. Most people who chose that option went with the 4.10's and even though it was mistake and and they gave you the 3.31's in the end that sets this ride even further from the rest. That is a nice piece.

The exterior appearance of the car is stunning. It has the look of a luxo-cruiser with the 396 on board, however it's lack of power accessories belies the look.
Robert - I almost agree. The only thing better than that would be this car with the best looking blonde on the planet as a package deal. But the odds of that happening (sadly enough) is one in never. ~sigh~
Very sweet. But on the start-up, I can tell he needs to have somebody, who knows how, do a tune-up on it. Properly tuned, it shouldn't have needed more than an 1/8 turn to fire up. BTDT.

Wow! Sweeeeeetness on 4 wheels! And in a gorgeous shade of sexy red! yeowsuh! I love white interiors on some cars, and it works with this one. But for me - white seats are a curse. For me personally, they never get dirty - they get filthy - inside of 20 minutes - lol.

Modern cars are all about being regulated which is the primary reason why modern cars are not as nice or good to drive. I am not joking even the thickness of materials being used is regulated as are how many workers are allowed to work on production. The more workers the greater the carbon output as these workers have to eat which means carbon production. People have no idea what is happening nor that this will lead to it being impossible to produce anything within America or the west as a whole. There is a reason why the US steel industry went from about 5 million workers down to 200,000 and China has went from 100,000 steel workers to about 5 million. China is next going to move about 1.5 million steelworkers in to high value manufacturing. Aerospace, pharma, precision instruments and communications systems are next for China.
Mine was beige paint, beige interior. College graduation present. Problem was 283 2 barrel with power glide. It was ok, just not much fun. But way nicer than my 1959 Ford that was rusting away by 1960. Fords were bad news. Always rusty lower corners around rear windows and front lower fenders where the two parts went together.
Hillbillymark here- the 65 chev could be ordered with a 409 engine until late winter the it was phazed out and replaced with the 396 engine as the biggest engine and i was wondering if the guy waited until the 396 was in place or did he want a 409 car and it was too late to order a 409 as it was deleted late winter.
I always thought the 65-68,s were the best looking, although the 61-64 were awesome as well. It seems Chevy liked to Change tail lights from Separate 3 light design to 1 piece. The lower models, bel air biscayne etc were 2 piece, starting in 1958. 69 and later were wanna be Cadillacs, but still retained the 3 piece or piece clear up 1988.

The L78 was a Big-Block engine produced by Chevrolet between 1965 and 1970. Rated at 425 hp (317 kW) for its first year, the rating dropped to 375 hp (280 kW) in subsequent years (although there was no change in power). Between 1966 and 1969 it was the most powerful Regular Production Option engine available in Chevrolet's intermediate line, making it a highly-collectible muscle car engine today.
I had a 65 Chevy Impala SS and it also had a white interior. The dashboard warped after using Armour All on it. I was just 19 then, I know better now but I had to sell the car, I was out of a job and couldn't afford to put a new engine in it and had no where to keep it stored. I have missed that car ever since.
@@olderthanyoucali8512 I assumed so. I had a 427/425 in a 67 RS Camaro with 456 gears and a 4 speed in the mid 70's, I bought the body and got the engine from a machine shop that had a spun rod bearing, engine like that is ULTRA RARE now, i could only imagine a 572 in a car like that, totally SICK, crate engines now make more power than 60's gear heads ever dreamed of.
Just a beauty!! That Red paint is in incredible condition. It must have been parking under cover always! Thanks Lou

HEY GM! Bring back the '65-'66 Impala and Caprice! Let it have the 21st century safety equipment, keep it mostly original, then leave it alone and sell it to the public and watch what happens 😉
Hi Michael, Retro Impalas....I like it :-) Thanks for sharing, Lou
Super clean. I just got a 65 SS that's in good condition. Got it with no title and just got the title for it. I'm super excited. Mine is a 327 power glide car.
Hi Anthony Pesqueira, Congratulations of your 65 SS ! Nice car, Lou
Reminds me of my mom's 1965 Impala SS. She bought it in '66. It was purple, with a black vinyl interior. Great ride.
Hi Robert Romero, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Mom's car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@loucostabile Thanks Lou. :)
Evening Orchid was quite close to purple
Very nice couple 🙂 ... and an exceptional car. I think that may be one of, if not the smoothest, best sounding classics I've yet to see 👍
My dad bought a new, two door fastback '65 Impala, white with blue interior. I can't help but have a special fondness for those cars 😉
Happy to read this one brings back memories of your Dads car :-)
Great walk through on the car. Such beautiful simplicity! I love the lope of the engine. It shows the nature of that cam and how it can breathe. My dad had a ‘65 Olds 88 with an ultra high compression 425. That thing was a 4-door beast ;)
Glad you enjoy the walk through on this car masaleep :-) Thank you for details on your Dad's 65, and hope you see many more cars on this TH-cam Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Buddy of mine in the Navy had one, this was mid and late 70's would pass everything but a gas station
Lou This is a Great Story !!!! Thanks Again if taking the time to make these videos !!!!!
Hi jim clearman, Happy to read you're enjoy the videos :-) Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
And traction bars , it would pass everything but a gas station , I wish I still had it , 😢
Hi Robert Westerman, Happy to read this car / video brings back memories of the car you bought :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful 65 SS
Impala
Hi Edmund, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Lou, I cannot believe that the beautiful white interior was kept that well I know the car has only 28K but WOW. They still dry, discolor, crack, you know, and original exhaust??? OMG! I would be embarrassed to have my first new car I bought at 18 at the dealer if it were in that condition people would laugh. 80' cougar XR-7 but the one I traded '73 Fleetwood with 63K I should of kept that ran like new and looked new. Thanks LOU!
+gene978 Hi gene978, this is just amazing how the Owners have kept this car. The unrestored condition is amazing... Lou
Hi senorkaboom, Ahhhh, the first new car :-) Nice, other than the wandering off the road thing, Lou
Probably the shitty bias ply tires back then.
Thanks

Beautiful car. I love 65s.
FYI. A 12 bolt rear would have been 4.10s.
Hi Ron, Happy to read you "love 65s" :-) Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Did you see this 65? th-cam.com/video/BCS4vSeDlj0/w-d-xo.html

This car was sooo close to being a car you liked. Hope you see many more cars on this TH-cam Channel you enjoy.
Power robbing accessories
I'd rather have a car like that, than the best looking blonde on the planet !!!
Sounds like a lot less to maintain with the car choice :-)
LOL ... I'm sure you're right !!!
i'd rather have Christy Brinkley on my face than that car
Hi 2KONIC123, Good call, I'm sure she's lighter then a car on your face :-) Lou
Robert - I almost agree. The only thing better than that would be this car with the best looking blonde on the planet as a package deal. But the odds of that happening (sadly enough) is one in never. ~sigh~
Very sweet. But on the start-up, I can tell he needs to have somebody, who knows how, do a tune-up on it. Properly tuned, it shouldn't have needed more than an 1/8 turn to fire up. BTDT.
Probably runs as good as your newer car shoes 50 plus years old

I'm drooling
:-)
Why no power brakes, and chrome valve covers. 425hp solid lift and chrome covers... I've never seen one without chrome covers... 4 drum brakes no boost, that murder also... I had a white/blue...loved everything about it.
Hi Paul Jackson, Hmmm, not sure why it doesn't have power brakes & chrome valve covers. Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
4 speed makes it extra sweet, 425 Ponies really nice ! No A/C good, as then it took power off the engine.
Hi Daniel, Happy to read you enjoy the 4 speed :-)

Hi ImTheDaveman, Glad to receive a "Wow!" from you :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

The 65 sport 2-door excellent Impala
NICE ! :-)
How do these guys keep these cars so nice, I buy a brand new car, and no matter how hard I try, in 5 years it's beat up.
Thanks
Hi C Smith, I agree with you, it's amazing they look this good. Lou
C Smith
Old cars are usually are built really well
My uncle Superban from the 80s is still in good condition
@@bighands69 That was an interesting comment.
C. Smith, 28,000 mi. In 54 years is how.

Hi Jamey, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Had one in 70 totaled it it makes me cry FANTASTIC
Ouch
Mine was beige paint, beige interior. College graduation present. Problem was 283 2 barrel with power glide. It was ok, just not much fun. But way nicer than my 1959 Ford that was rusting away by 1960. Fords were bad news.
Always rusty lower corners around rear windows and front lower fenders where the two parts went together.
Hi ron5935, Thank you for viewing and sharing your story on your 1965 :-) Lou
Thats still a Kool car though man.
Hillbillymark here- from Ontario Canada- when you ordered did you consider the 409 or were you to late and had to get the 396
Hi Mark, Not sure what the order options choices were. Lou
That is a beauty.
Hi MrHeadbanger366, Glad you enjoyed the looks of this one :-) Lou
I love those old Impalas.
Prefect and very fast
High praise :-)
I always thought the 65-68,s were the best looking, although the 61-64 were awesome as well. It seems Chevy liked to Change tail lights from Separate 3 light design to 1 piece. The lower models, bel air biscayne etc were 2 piece, starting in 1958. 69 and later were wanna be Cadillacs, but still retained the 3 piece or piece clear up 1988.

Still for sale???
Not sure anymore.
I think they carried the 409 over in few 65s not sure correct me if I'm wrong
Hoping a Chevrolet Viewer can share knowledge.
What does the. L78 stand for?
The L78 was a Big-Block engine produced by Chevrolet between 1965 and 1970. Rated at 425 hp (317 kW) for its first year, the rating dropped to 375 hp (280 kW) in subsequent years (although there was no change in power). Between 1966 and 1969 it was the most powerful Regular Production Option engine available in Chevrolet's intermediate line, making it a highly-collectible muscle car engine today.

Butterfly window I believe,Lou ?
Thank you for sharing Make.
HI Ears 2Hear, Thank you for viewing and sharing the story of your 1965 :-) Maybe you'll get another one? Lou
Dude I used armourall on my Nova s dash for years with NO warpage, you had something else goin on. Probably factory flaw.
Think the 375 is the same engine???
Jim sandy, it is, chevy just gave it a higher rating in the impala and Corvette, I believe.
Hmmm, not sure. Maybe a Viewer can share knowledge.
What type of engine does this car have
