Hey man! With nymph rigs I reccomend trying two flies in a line! The top a bit bigger fly like size 16-12. I really like San Juan worms and prince nymphs and then tie that on like normal, then take a 12-18 inch line and tie it to the bottom of that hook and tie on your smaller bug. I love using sows and rainbow warriors, and pheasant tails. Size 18-22. Then fish with the Bobber deeper until you think it’s about on the bottom. Use splitshot accordingly. I kill the fish with this method. Matching the hatch is the name of the game. Check under rocks near bank and match
Some tips for you: Minimize fly line on the water. This will reduce the drag that creates an unnatural drift. The best way to do this is to keep the rod tip up and extend your arm toward the fly. Ideally, the only thing on the water is you indicator. Imagine a line between your thumb, rod tip, and fly. Do not break that line all the way through the drift. Retrieve line or mend line out of the rod as necessary. Finally, roll casting is your best friend, especially with multitasking fly nymph rigs on small creeks. Good luck learning!
I'm not a fly fisher, although I've caught wild browns on small streams, but surely its easier to fish down and across from the head of the pool using a short line and letting the current pull the fly across then strip it up the near bank?
Your drive and ambition for adventure and making videos is amazing. I've fished my whole life and never once considered paying 50$ to fish a tiny stream just to see if there is any fish in it lol! Love it
Nice work. I too have recently taken up fly fishing and its extremely challenging but rewarding. Love this channel!! Thanks for your top shelf production work!
"A lot fancier then I was expecting..." You paid $50 to fish a tiny creek. It better be good and fancy for that price! I'd want lunch served to me on the bank to for that. lol
Yeah, some prices are ridiculous! Where I live we have a couple of REALLY good salmon streams. The one I visit costs around $20 per day and I think that is ok. The other one is mostly consisting of land owners that will not sell to individuals, only to groups, meaning you get the right to fish 10 people for roughly $600. The trout lake I usually use is $40 for a year.
@@ExplorishingAdventures For guiding, I would be prepared to pay alot. Thing is, I came into fly fishing from spin fishing the salts just 5 years ago. And fishing the sea is free of charge, and you get the occasional exciting fish. I get that some land owners want to make money off their land, and let me quote a school teacher and fisherman from my neck of the woods: "If the landowner makes active arrangements on his/her lands to accomodate fishermen, if he/she actively manage the fish population, then I have no problem paying for that work as a fisherman. But if they do not facilitate fishing spots and do not manage the fish population in any way shape or form, then I will fish there for free.".
Hey Nick, great episode with some nice fish. Love the music with all the scenery. Have you ever tried dropping 2 flies. You do what your doing but tie another fly off the hook of the first. Like a dry fly dropper or 2 nymphs. Always fun and gets you a better idea of what they want. I’m not a great fly fisherman either. Lol!

I'm enjoying these videos , incredible scenery and camera work . "See ya later Buddy" during every release shows how much respect you have for the future of fishing.
I'm no master by any means, but one great thing to do with trout is to 'match the hatch'. Lift up rocks and look around the creek to see what types of flies are currently in season, then match the best you can.
The video looks awesome. From someone whose got a few years of fly fishing under their belt, your flies are probably way too big for the target size. Even larger fish are normally going to eat smaller stuff unless it's a streamer or you're somewhere with hefty size insect life. My go-to in a stream like that would be a size 20 midge or hares ear. I would suggest learning some euro nymphing/high sticking for water like that too. Ditch that big strike indicator, we all do it when we are new but it adds something that's not realistic to your set up. Get a piece of yarn and tie it on as an indicator, hold your rod tip out and keep the yarn on top of the water that or just use a meaty dry fly. Then below add a little bit of tungsten stick on weight and have a tippet ring with your longer tippet strand carrying maybe a little larger fly like a scud or larger hares ear. Then on a shorter strand attached to the tippet ring add a small midge. You'll snag fish all day with a more intricate set up like this but even just a big meaty dry as an indicator with a bead head midge below will work too, that was and always is my go-to easy setup. If you ever wanna go fish holler you can message me on IG Michael_NaturalVisions I also shoot outdoor tv shows so I know my way around a camera or two.
Grew up fishing that stream. The bridge behind the lodge is my favorite spot. And you have to grab some ice cream at the lodge, where you'll see monster trout all caught by the same guy, a local legend of a fisherman of sorts.
I love watching your videos. It makes me feel like I’m outside with you, I’ve never caught a trout but I am fishing vicariously through you, keep up the great work man!
Maybe a little tip for future fly fishing adventures. I fish a lot of Spring Creeks and similar waters in Montana, and you always have to assume that the fish can see you when you're standing over the bank like that. Try to kneel or stand further away from the bank while you are casting, and you'll get more fish.
I know its an older video, but a few things to help your fly fishing: 1. Do not cast a “nymph rig” like its a dry fly or a streamer. Simply flick your wrist and roll cast, especially in narrow water like that. Casting like that with an indicator is how you get wind knots and spook fish. Consider softer indicators then those rubber ones. NZ wool is the go to. 2. Fish two flies while nymphing. Tie three pieces of tippet together using two double surgeons knots at a 16 inch interval, clip one of the two tags from each knot. Tie your flies to the remaining tags. This will make the presentation more natural and allow you to fish two sections of the water column, thus doubling your chances. You said a fish struck at your indicator, consider using a foam based fly like a foam grasshopper as your indicator, then you’d be fishing three flies at one time. (To cast this mess of flies refer to point 1.) 3. Add split shot or fish tungsten beaded flies to get one or both of your flies down. If you had done the above, you probably would’ve caught triple the amount of fish.
Incredible! I absolutely LOVE the trout vids! Also, to save time. On the strike indicator, u don't need to seperate the line or leader, u can just make a loop I'm the line and slide it into the strike indicator knot free!
Native 618 here. If you want to get more into fly fishing and maybe pick up a couple new techniques, go after bass with frog poppers. It'll get you tuned for some salt stuff later.
Beautiful video! That was a pleasure to watch. I was taught that after you have a strike or land a fish, switch your fly. If I could make a suggestion to help your casting and save some energy, try keeping your shoulder and elbow stiffer, and focus on crisp stops with your wrist on your forward and backward cast. I did it wrong for years so hopefully this saves some time. Cheers from Vancouver Island!
Go back to Rockbridge in April or May. Use either a med action light rod floating trout magnets, or fly rod. I caught a lot of trout: biggest was 4.5 pounds. Average was 2.75.

We have a ton of little creeks like this in the Desert Highlands in Easter Washington....Amazing the size of the fish that these little streams can produce! They are virtually unfished also as most people just overlook them.
I’m from upstate New York and I have some amazing trout spots among many other species. I would love to make the trip to where you fished in this video. I love the videos and have been binging your content since coming across it a few days ago. I would love to see some more underwater b-roll mixed in, especially when you are fishing such beautiful water as this.
I stumbled onto this video, crazy thing is I paid to fish that creek a few years ago. I live in St. Louis County and that creek is about an hour and half from my house. I usually fish near there for smallmouth bass in the meramec river and the small creeks that run into it. I fished it on a hot summer day using spinning gear, Im not really a fly fisherman, and caught quite a few nice trout, mostly in the bigger creek (Dry Creek) next to the spring creek. Interesting fact about that place, the rental cabins on the property were relocated from other parts of Missouri. It is a beautiful property.
He was fishing in Missouri where we have many big springs. The Current river is mainly spring water and has trout in it. You can find lots of spots in Missouri where spring water flows into a creek or river and trout will be in the waters. In the winter the Conservation department puts trout in local lakes so people can fish for them. Lake Tanycomo has brown and rainbow trout and muskie. I caught a muskie out of the lake, it was small only 2 feet long my friend caught a keeper 36 inches long. Both went back into the lake.
Copper john, prince or anything dark and small will catch you fish. Key is use fluorocarbon leader and tippet in clear water. You are doing great for just starting fly fishing. Keep on fishing my friend.
Small shallow creeks call for a Dry dropper set up vs indicator. Use a dry fly, vibrant and large enough to see, which won’t take much with short casts and young eyes.
Great video 618!🎣🐟💦 Absolute beautiful limestone spring creek with some Awesome hard fighting Bows! Them trout in spring creeks are so tough to figure out! Keep up the great work man! Hey if you ever come to PA, I can put you on some thick wild brownies! Tight lines, and look forward to the next video!!!👍 I’m relatively new to fly fishing as well but I’ve fallen in love with it! It’s so much fun and rewarding when you hook really big fish on the fly! Or just any fish! 💯
Hey Nick, bass are super fun on the fly too. They will crush muddler minnows on the surface, and leeches below. Strike indicators with the leeches. Just have to cast to the right spot and they'll hit.
flooperer I’m planning on making a video at the spillway with flyrod using the fly poppers hoping to catch a bunch of white bass and bass should be fun
I'm a St Louis county resident and have fished some of the spots you have on your show. If you haven't hit the 11 Point river you need to do so! I plan on gong soon for a trip with my Kayak.
Nice job bud. Maybe try to strip a white or Olive wooly bugger thru the deeper pools and runs for bigger fish. Also maybe replace your hard indicator for a wool one. Doesn't splat on water spooking fish. Although not wild those are pressured fish that get smart fast
Hey man looking good! Glad you got out on the water! One piece of advice I would offer is when you finish your cast do bring the rod low to the water. What it’s doing is the line closer to the rod tip slaps down first before the fly. Keep it up and pointed toward your desired target. Also I’ve found AirLock strike indicators far better than the one you currently have on! Check then out!
Awesome videos I havent been subscribed very long but by far 1 of my favorite TH-cam channels overall the best fishing TH-cam channel ever keep up the awesome work!!!😎
I started fly fishing a few years back and still wouldn't want fish in front of someone whose good at it. Props. Takes a long time to develop the technique you need with your wrist.
great videos! rule of thumb if you use a strike indicator; 1&1/2 times the water depth from your indicator to your weight. may very with water currant tho. ie: 3 ft of water, 4.5 ft of line between the indicator and weight...tight lines!
That was cool. Some pointers though. Smaller strike indicator, or no indicator. Only like 6-8 feet leader max and watch the fly line for strikes. Dont walk right up to the water. Stand like 5 feet back. Work the line upstream. 1st cast 10 feet. 2nd, 15 feet. 3rd, 20 feet. If they see the line, they spook. If you see them, that means they knew you were there minutes earlier and are spooked. Cast right into the white water. The biggest ones are there waiting for food to wash by. Faster water means narrower so they are more likely to see prey and bait. Enjoy
Love the spring creeks! Killer video man, nice work. Have you fished two fly rig before/dropper rig? Use that black stone fly you had on, run some line off the hook bend and tie on the scud. Killer method. Hit me up if you have questions. Sure by now, you've figured it out.
One thing I did notice that will really help with spooky fish is your strike indicator try the New Zealand style indicator want have the pop on the water.
Come to central pa susquehanna river we will show you some great fishing. Nice trout pick up a rock in the water sometimes see what's crawling on the under side and match it.
Your production quality is unreal man. From the music to the B-roll. Your videos are beautiful.

Thank you! Your content makes my day a bit brighter, and always makes me smile.
Your doing great keep practicing. I’ve always wanted to try fly fishing, the equipment is just too pricey for me! Thank you for the content!
I love the videos and have been binging your content since coming across it a few days ago. I would love to see some more underwater b-roll mixed in, especially when you are fishing such beautiful water as this.
the only fishing channel i enjoy
Nothing like learning while doing something you love, great job.
As an avid fly fisherman from Alaska, for someone who claims to not be very good at it, you’ve got good form and technique with your cast
Watching these makes me want to learn the fly rod. It looks like challenging, but rewarding!
Your Average Fisherman I’m still new to it, but it’s a lot of fun! Highly recommend.
You know it's a good day when 618 uploads a video!
What a magnificent location, and fly fishing, oh yeah, fish on! Thanks and Blessings!
They aren’t wild, but still in Belk. I’m still throwing them back.
Lifes simple, 618 posts a video you like it. Then proceed to watch the vid
I love seeing the shots of the Arch...been up there many times!
Grew up around all these spots. Been in Tahoe for 10 years now but it’s cool to see these spots are still good.
Thanks for the fly fishing videos. I think they’re great
You my guy, deserve a fishing show on tv somewhat somewhere or somehow. Get this man's a tv contract pronto!!
It's nice to see you away from the spillways 😁👍
I'm a St Louis county resident and have fished some of the spots you have on your show. If you haven't hit the 11 Point river you need to do so! I plan on gong soon for a trip with my Kayak.
Nice job bud. Maybe try to strip a white or Olive wooly bugger thru the deeper pools and runs for bigger fish. Also maybe replace your hard indicator for a wool one. Doesn't splat on water spooking fish. Although not wild those are pressured fish that get smart fast
Lets just appreciate the quality and the time he takes
Love seeing you improve your fly rod skills. You’ll be shadow casting like Brad Pitt in no time! 👍🏽😜
need to come down to the spring river in northern Arkansas,we will catch some that will make bait out of those.
Biggest fish of the year 🤣 you got me. This was the BIGGEST FISHING OF THE YEAR, YOU FISHED ME 🤣
Beautiful footage & congrats on your biggest trout👏🏼👏🏼🐟🐟
Awesome videos I havent been subscribed very long but by far 1 of my favorite TH-cam channels overall the best fishing TH-cam channel ever keep up the awesome work!!!😎
Greeting from Ireland!! good to see you having fun out there fishing!!
Dude, I love your videos. Your direction and vision for your videos is on point. I dig it man, keep up the great work.
Your footage its twice as good a job b man, amazing job keep up the phenomenal work. Very relaxing videos 👍
Enjoy
I really enjoyed your music selections! Beautiful footage and excellent editing! Nice! Good catches too lol!
Your video quality is sooooo good one channel I can watch watch over and over
Love the spring creeks! Killer video man, nice work. Have you fished two fly rig before/dropper rig? Use that black stone fly you had on, run some line off the hook bend and tie on the scud. Killer method. Hit me up if you have questions. Sure by now, you've figured it out.
Another beautifully crafted video. Great job 👍
Great video! Good fishing in a beautiful spot.
Was that a fish hatchery upstream? If so, no wonder they can charge $ to fish it. 😆
One thing I did notice that will really help with spooky fish is your strike indicator try the New Zealand style indicator want have the pop on the water.
Come to central pa susquehanna river we will show you some great fishing. Nice trout pick up a rock in the water sometimes see what's crawling on the under side and match it.
So awesome to watch i Love the Shots and the nature Around that creek is so Beautyful. AWESOME VIDEO!!!
