Hey Alex, I owe you a thank you. My profession is in no way related to electronics. Still I enjoy watching your videos because I find them very informative and interesting. All the hours watching your videos paid off unexpectedly last night. I bought a train set for my toddler son. I reached home and to my dismay I found that it was not working. I opened the train up and discovered that a wire and another component was disconnected. I got a brand new soldering iron and fixed it entirely thanks to you. From your videos I learnt what a solder wick was and what flux was. I learnt how to solder from watching you. I used that knowledge to fix my son's train and the joy on his face was the best part of my day. He wouldn't let me turn the train off for hours after that. Thank you so much. You touch lives in more ways than you realise.
Wow, great story man. Thank you for sharing. And also, now your son will grow up knowing how to fix basic electronics/how they work thanks to his Dad, and I’m sure he will be very proud of you one day, once he understands the effort that takes to learn.
It just goes to show that knowledge is weightless. Alex has shown us all many things, you would never think that by sharing knowledge and skills it could change someone’s day from disappointment and sadness, to happiness and joy. Thanks for sharing!
We bought some flux from you Alex. I work for a major theme park in Florida, we’ll leave it at that. Point of comment? That stuff really is the best, thank you Alex
Hi, I’m french and I repair too. Your videos are awesome for me because you give us many explications during your interventions about generalities from électronic theme. A big THANK from France 🇫🇷 👍✌️
High fan speed most probably related to BIOS especially hardware changes or incorrect setting. Perhaps solvable by resetting the BIOS or check BIOS setting again
For sure you know, but just in case: many laptops that are always used with an external monitor and keyboard have the internal keyboard disabled in the bios. I don't know why IT people set it up like that, but it is my observation. Maybe check the keyboard in the bios itself and ask the customer.
12:50 That keyboard connector is very finicky. Have to get it EXACTLY straight into the connector, if it is slightly angled then it doesn't get detected because the pins don't go to the right places. At exactly 12:50 you can see it is still a little crooked when he flips the connector closed. And its hard to lift the keyboard up and get it straight because when you lift the keyboard up it tugs the cable to make it angled. So you have to do it half blind peering in from the side with the keyboard right above the connector when you plug it in to get it straight. My Inspiron 15 inch is exactly like this too and it took me a couple of hours to get it in right.
0:50 A slight discoloration on cheap motherboards is good indication that somewhere in this specific area the temperature of components are rapidly changing . This is normal if one side has good heatsink and the heat has way to being took. Other side doesn't have to. Copper when is heated it expands. Soldermask (green color on motherboard) do not expand. Thats why it makes discoloration of expanding and shrinking copper plate.
I did try different amtech fluxes from ebay aliexpress but non of them are as good as yours to be honest. Same thing with the desoldering braid wick.. yours is the best
Based on your videos I always wonder whom do you call (scientists from complaining) today I saw them in comments section ! Lots of scientists are there.😄😄😄
I am not sure that a faulty keyboard would make the fan spin at full speed. Dell laptops are very picky with anything. You could reflash the BIOS. I had a similar issue in the past, the got fixed with BIOS reflashing. No user would want to use the laptop with fans at full speed all the time.
tell big boss to snap the back cover back on, he doesn't have to screw it in and see if that tames the fan....i haven't done it with that model specifically but on certain latitude models without the cover on the fan ramps up like that....if that doesn't work reseting bios to factory might
High fan speed and non-working keyboard implies that the Embedded Controller is not doing its job right. Could be its power, bad controller part, in need of reflash, or (usually) just in need of reset to default values (see system specific steps for how to do that).
The Embedded Controller on the 7559 is absolute trash. Sometimes, it will have a failure where the keyboard and *power button* completely stop working. You literally can't turn it off (holding down power for 5 seconds doesn't do anything) unless the battery cable is disconnected. Then it works again. It's happened to me at least 10 times.
@@Dwedit It's probably the high quarity filmwale written in China or India... I mean, why have a single US engineer develop it when his salary pays for 4 engineers in India..
Thanks for sharing this video👍, I also have Dell Inspiron 15 7559 laptop with same issue. I have given it to dell authorized service center. I am from Pune India. Do you have any advice to me? Laptop got wet and caused this issue.
when I had that laptop I had a 3rd party software to blast the fans at 80% all the time otherwise the cpu cooks itself. pains me to say was probably connector damage during disassembly. should be an easy fix for somebody as skilled as you.
This is why I hate laptops. Fix problem and find another issue. Sent one out to a repair place. Took about 3 months. Had to order a part. Fixed it and found another issue. Had to wait for that part. Oh, and this is years and years of trying different repair places that was a bust. At least we finally found one that seems to do good work for a great price and a reasonable turn around time. Really didn't have a choice. Most stuff is only from China now or $$$$ or both. So that place we use is $250.00 + s/h both ways. If they cannot fix it. You just pay s/h. They also don't work on just boards or machines that have been opened up and put back together. Though, we are exempt for that part. Don't ask me how.
My role model and my teacher can you explain please about resistance mode and how to know capacitors not shorted to ground beeping because of other think is shorting the capacitor. Please share us those like me loving you loosing their rest time watching you .
Hello. you need to buy a laptop keyboard tester, connect the cable to the tester, press the keys and hear a beep from the tester confirming the operation of each key.
The thermal paste needs to be reapplied probably dried out my old hp laptop fan sounded like a jet plane I cleaned old thermal paste reapplied and is now quiet
Or the owner had it disabled, in favor of a usb wireless keyboard, I've done that with my laptops. I also disable the touchpad and use strictly wireless mouse.

I couldn't help but notice that literally every SMD cap or resistor on this board had a solder blob on it. From the factory. It's just a matter of time until this board's dead again. But hey, you're getting a Dell!
Hi Alex, I'm from Philippines. And I just want to ask something regarding my laptop. My laptop model is Lenovo Ideapad S145-14IGM. It started on July 7. I charged my laptop, not checking if it was charging or not cause it was just the usual. After 2 hours, I started using it thinking it was fully charged but when I saw the battery icon in the screen, it was only 39%. I was wondering why it was not fully charged but ignored it anyways. So as I was using it, I decided to charge it and was shocked because my laptop did not charge at all. I plugged it to another port and at first, it charged. I glanced over it again and now it was not charging. I wondered why. It never happened to me. I got back where I was usually charging it and plugged it again there. The same scenario happened. Puzzled and scared, I looked at the charging pole of my laptop and saw the orange light blinking when it was supposed to be steady. I can still turn my laptop on and off. The only problem is that it is not charging and the orange light is blinking. I can't check if the charger or the laptop is faulty as this is the only laptop and charger in the house. Can you tell me the problem please? I'm so sorry if I bothered you with this question. I asked the people I know who use laptop but they don't seem to know. I also tried searching but there was no case similar to mine.
I also tried charging it again yesterday and tried it in an extension cord. The orange light went steady for a few seconds and went blinking again. I don't have any knowledge when it comes to this. If someone replies, it'll really be a big help to me.
yes, smd capacitors can also have values in 10uF. Although the capacitance will change a lot with temperature and the curve overall isn't as nice as electrolytic.
dell bios has supportassist which will check every hardware for error, from keyboard to fan,ram to harddisk, power or cpu overheat or cmos battery and it has ability to go online and download required driver directly from dell
Those caps aren't shorting, the board was shorted by the one bad cap. When he put the leads on one of the good caps, the current traveled across the board, through the bad cap, and closed the circuit through the leads that way. That's why, after removing the bad cap, those other caps no longer tested as shorted.
Pavilion 15 came for no power, fixed it easily the charging port connector cable was severed, replaced it with HP part, reassembly, keyboard isn't working, then customer ask for a new keyboard (palm rest assembly in that case) I say no, proceeds to trash laptop in my face and leave without paying. I got a donor board for free, too bad for that screen tho

Good job done......BIG BOSS..
A bad keyboard rarely makes all the keys unresponsive. I think the issue is most likely on the motherboard
i agree... a totally dead keyboard is really uncommon... and the high fan speed is concering also...
@@supercomputing942 That can be due to no keyboard detected... but maybe the keyboard controller is dead or something
@@psialt9720 Or this keyboard just contains a temperature sensor inside of it and it's not detected, thus high fan speed
Yes I've seen a handful of times with Dell laptops before, that keyboard issues can be caused by the motherboard, not the keyboard itself.
@@ArmenianBot That's also what I thought. But NorthridgeFix can likely repair the issue

Why inject 1.2 volts to see short , why not 5 volt or 10 volt ??
If the other caps are in parallel and are also shorting to ground why don't they heat up also
Those caps aren't shorting, the board was shorted by the one bad cap. When he put the leads on one of the good caps, the current traveled across the board, through the bad cap, and closed the circuit through the leads that way. That's why, after removing the bad cap, those other caps no longer tested as shorted.
Current takes the path with the lowest resistance, in this case the shorted cap.
What's so special about this flux? (Serious question)
It works very well and doesnt leave a horrible residue all over the place.
its not burning black when heated
no cleaning is needed after work
Excellent flow properties. Lasts under heats, Easy to clean, no disturbing smell and leaves round and shinny solder joints.
