    The thing that has surprised me so much after watching your videos is just how big of a part manure management is in what you do. This spring has really shown that. First the pond was full probably a little sooner than you would have liked it to be. Then the troubles you had cleaning the corrals. Now you are back at hauling liquid and you are stopped by a pump in the barn. It really does dictate what you have to be doing at any given time. All the while everything else needs to happen in tandem. You really do provide good insight as to what goes on in an operation like yours.👍

      @@giles-df9yu No I have never lived on a farm but my Dad’s side are all farmers and my cousins ran a 2000 or 3000 thousand head feedlot at Strathmore Alberta, so you could say I grew up on the farms even though we lived in the city. My Dad worked for Case IH and I was down at the dealership as much as I could be. Four of my friends are farmers as well so I have helped out as much as I could when they needed it. I guess it is in my blood.🤔

    Every person's job or skill set is so valuable to the operation. I was just thinking how valuable your mechanic is. But then thought every person's job is so necessary. Your family and hired help are a great team. I loved how in the last video you stood up for the person who hit the post with the spreader; saying what a valuable employee he is and that we all make costly mistakes from time to time.

    Frustration in your voice with the situation with the manure pumps.
    Maybe using a pneumatic vacuum system to possibly suck the barn pit completely cleaned. I've used a lift like you're going to use in the Navy. Make sure the Hydraulics is all checked out. The one I used failed and the arm dropped and we came very close to death. Just make sure to follow all safety for the rigg. Tomorrow will be a better day

    If you fashioned a "cake mixer" type of setup to go around the pump that might help with the issue. Would be an interesting project for your mechanic

    Just a thought on your tractor shortage situation. Here in Ontario some farmer are able to secure unused tractors used for winter snow removal. They are secured on s short term lease. I wonder if this option might be more feasible than looking to add a unit to the fleet. The only challenge might be in securing a tractor with adequate HP. Keep up the good work.

  • @rosemarymurphy5767

    Sounds like you may have to buy two more big tractor’s so you don’t have to wait for a tractor to pull or hook up things. Some of the smaller tractor’s don’t have the horse power and other tractor’s have.
    It maybe you’ll have to totally clean out the pit but that maybe pushing it. WOW , put a sign up saying no straw in pits.Your grains our set in a good spot and have the room to fill and empty easy. To high for me to be on lift. Looks like your getting set to plant for yo long that is awesome.

    I understand every dollar counts these days you should get a hold of an old tractor or bus motor and have Brent mount on a skid and modify it to run the manure pump. Would be convenient and less expensive than possibly burn out a tractor that’s needed for other chores.

    • @timothymbonham4453
      @timothymbonham4453 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Or replace the pump & tractor combination with a permanent electric pump for draining the pit.Could be a lower capacity (slower) pump, if you didn't have to use up one of the tractors when filling the manure hauler.

    Ive worked sand in cubicles here in the uk a lot of years, yes, the build up around a pump even with a propeller gets smaller and smaller over couple of yrs- the slight bit of straw etc a can just stop that pump as it hasnt anywhere else to go- not seeming a smart arse, but i commented when you extended the pack barn and scraped slurry down into the manure channel going to the pump, it wont work if theres any straw in it.

  • @tilapiastew6784
    @tilapiastew6784 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    You can use the pressure washer to clear the sand in the pump area. A long extension on the wand to get to the bottom, it should break up any sand. I wouldn’t run the pump while blasting just to be safe.

    Jan for example the manure spreader. If you can't find tires that fit and when you do one its so costly , it's almost the same as 3 -4 tires. Couldn't you buy a size or 2 up or down if they were available and way cheaper. Don't know anything about tires but seems as long as they fit the rim? Thanks

    2:30, that is a massive beast. Btw, I'm a novice when it comes to farming but I have a question. Does the amount of wheels on a tractor mean that it can pull more weight? Depends on the horsepower as well but need more info on stuff like this. :)

    Jan, I have a naive question. Your dairy farm spends an extraordinary amount of time and money preparing food for the dairy cows. Are there dairy farms that buy the food and bypass the work involved in growing it? Is it too expensive in doing so? What is the approximate percentage of costs devoted to preparing the food compared to the total costs?

    • @MellowYe77ow
      @MellowYe77ow 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Some farms are going to automated feeding with robots to save on labor costs. 10th Generation Dairyman's farm is in the process of that right now. They're currently having 3 new vertical silos built, and they hope to have the system fully operational shortly after this summer's corn harvest.
