- DIY Plywood Motorcycle Panniers and Topbox made with plywood with basic tools at home by Dr. Jagat
Update:
1) Turned out to be heavier than i expected. The rear feels heavier on ride. Next time i would try thinner plywood, metal or ACP sheet
2) Good waterproofing as the plywood is waterproof and painted well
3) Currently using as a storage box in my Jeep. I have a smaller topbox and saddle bags for my rides

Man ! Those panniers and top box look amazing !! You did a great job , you can’t even tell they are plywood. You are an inspiration sir!
Thank you
Dr. Jagat you executed everything in a very smart and impressive way. Panniers look very beautiful and sturdy too.
I made a pair of saddle bags about 20 years ago out of wood but just used it for a mold then fiberglass over it and took the wood off then just kept building up the fiberglass until I thought it was strong enough and they turned out great might try it again, yours look great
Great. Fiberglass is not my skill and messy i guess. So i chose easier option. Mine turned out heavy and a bit larger. I use them as tool storage boxes now.
I went in flashback of mine 80's day's. Great Sir simply superb.
Thank you
Great job! 👍
Thank you😊
Great job they look awesome 🤑 you’ve inspired me 🙏🏽
Thank you.
Quedó genial, super pro ! Haré una similar para mi Himalayan , Saludos desde Chile
Gracias brother. Mine turned out a little bigger and heavier than i wanted. If you making then make it smaller and lighter with thinner ply. Best of luck
You've got great talent!
These look amazing and the video is of high detail enabling ease of learning!
Thank you
Thank you
You did a great job man. You deserve a like.
Thank you Lucas
Very good idea
Thank you
Great effort, they look fab!
Maybe thinner ply and aluminium "L" along edges may make the load lighter and give the strength required...
Yes exactly
Nice idea brother but how you attach panniers to sadle stay. on nut or lock system
I have made a frame and attached it with drilled holes and nut bolts with washers.
i like the idea bro. good job.
Thank you
Great job mate, congratulations
Thanks mate
Fantastic job, better than store bought ones
Thank you
Great Job, I just love the Paint job. But yup, weight is the issue. I have a 150cc. I would go into fabricating with fibre glass instead of plywood, or I could infact construct the basic structure with mdf, then reinforce with sheets of fibre glass. Great, thanks for this video this has given me loads of ideas.
Thank you. Yes MDF or thinner plywood. Doubtful about the fit and finish with fiberglass. Let me know.
Don't forget to clear laquer after chrome spray if you are going for similar paint job
Great job sir ! they look awesome.
Thank you
Wah G Wah
Thank you..
Watching repeatedly, awesome work..
Thank you
Great good. Nice idea.
👍😊
Very good job!
Thank you
Great job , the perfect video for me 🙏
Thank you. Use thinner plywood to reduce weight
Nice work DONE. l love it. Greetings all the way from Belize 🇧🇿. A question here, is there panniers holding frame for 150cc bikes?
Thank you. I have got this frame fabricated out of steel pipes. I think you can get it done locally but you need to make the boxes lighter by using thinner plywood and dimensions smaller for 150cc. All the best
I have few technical questions here
1. How much is the weight of each box ? How has it affected bike handling so far?
2. Can we go with lesser thickness of plywood ? If so, what do you think would be the least safest thickness ?
3. Have you considered using WPVC instead ?
Great Rig BTW
I have not weighed the boxes but it definitely turned out to be heavier than I expected. The rear side feels heavier while riding. Lighter plywood would definitely be good option. Also Alluminium Composite sheet would fit the bill best as it's light, waterproof and rust proof. Also ACP sheets available in all desired colours so no hassle of painting
bro you really did a very good job! you inspire my inner craftsman ! just want to know if you still using this ?how durable it is ?
Thank you. Very durable. I am not using them regularly as I have sadlebags and smaller top box. I am using them for storing tools and riding accessories. If you are building one I suggest you go for thinner plywood any similar material to keep weight lower.
Good work Sir.
Thank you
Gud job bro. It would be good if you could add how the boxes are fitted
ya i like to know how to put it too
Sorry I dint film that. Will do next time
Nice work sir
Thank you
Aslamoalaikum brother yah water proof hai?
Yes
Very cool!!
Thankyou
Mast
👍
Thanks for idea brother
I love u
Thank you. It's heavy. Use thinner plywood
excellent
Thank you
Now your bike with those heavy boxes has reached it's maximum Laden weight lol
Yes. Next time will do lighter
Great job
Thank you
NiCe some 3M reflector tape stickers would be good for safety too.
Yes. Good suggestion
Bht shandaar!
Thank you
I think it's heavy?
Yes. Turned out heavy and a tad bigger than required. Thinner plywood or a different material like composite aluminum panels would be better
I'm building a light frame 1/2 inch sticks attaching 4 mm okume marine with joints sanded rounded then a layer of glass over joints urethane then paint
Sounds good
nice work, how much does it weight ?
Weight is the only downside of this. 8 to 10kgs per box. There are ways to work around this problem mainly using a thinner plywood
@@DrJagatVlogs Marine ply?
Its not safe accident our raning box sweating n spoil
Not likely
Sir ji weight keya huwa inka
Weight around 45 kg. Mera hisab se size bhi thoda jyada hua. If you are planning use thinner ply or some other material and make them smaller too
@@DrJagatVlogs main bol Raha hu ki sirf box ka weight keya hain without shaman or capacity
good job
how much it cost
8- 10k rs maybe
how do you put the lock ?
Hook type lock was available in hardware stores
Superb brother..👍
Thank you
Nice robust design which you can trust on but i think they are too heavy to be mounted on bike. Better try fiberglass next time.
Btw they are well fabricated and looks like premium quality ..
Appreciate your effort.✌️✌️✌️
Yes. Heavier. Can use thinner plywood. Fiberglass is not my cup of tea yet. Thanks
How much rupees
And weight?
It cost me around 8000 rupees. Weight must be 12 kg each. Can use thinner plywood to reduce weight
nice
How did you put the lock?
A suitable one was available in hardware stores.
I’m going to copy your build if you don’t mind.
👍Make sure you make lighter and a little smaller. They are big and heavy now..
Weight?
I havent weighed them but They turned out to be heavier and slightly bigger than expected. Next time I may try with thinner ply or Alluminum composite sheet
@Dr Jagat Vlogs yes, I thought so. I'm thinking of getting a scrapped plastic box n convert it. Good effort, brother 👏
will it be waterproof or water-resistant? how much did it cost you?
The plywood is waterproof one. With the paint it can take fair bit of water splash. Cost me around 8000 Rupees. I would suggest you go for thinner plywood than this to reduce weight
What about the waterproofing?
Waterproofing is good as the plywood is waterproof and the paint surface. Haven't used in heavy rains but I think it's fine
They are heavier than alluminium panniers?
@@VaivDsmarty 3 times heavier approx. But 1/4th the cost. But if made with 6mm waterproof plywood with 1 inch wood border weight will come down. Also I misjudged the size of side panniers. They are broader than required.
I think another option would be ACP Composite sheet with alluminium L brackets screwed for borders with silicon for waterproofing would be great. Light weight and much neater looking. Would look good in all matt black. You can also put plastic corners available online
Size is broder. But i was saying broder size is better as it can hold more items
Waah🙏🙏
Thank you
@@DrJagatVlogs ek mere liye bhi bna dijiye na bhaiya.. Plz
Nice work, but they gotta be heavy as s**t?
Yes on the heavier side. Need to use thinner plywood

Sorry I don't understand the language.
How strong those boxes are.
Very strong. No problem
How long you tested after building it, and is the any vibration issues and have u tried in rain is it water proof? Please give ur feedback
Its waterproof plywood but I would not suggest using it in rainy season. No vibrations as the fit is perfect. You can also use rubber beading or silicon for the lid. Weight is on the higher side. Can solve that by using thinner plywood. Would be cheaper too
@@DrJagatVlogs I'm definitely making one with thinner plywood
ROYALTYBABY360 I am using white oak one by one to make the frame the rest is made of galvanized flashing.

I dont understand. Please translate in English
I think it's is not water proof
Have been using in rain. No problem yet. Have added rubber beading to the lid so it's airtight.
Good stuff.. 👍.. Ideally you wouldn't want wood as material for panniers ..
I don't see why it should not be used.
@@DrJagatVlogs rain?
@@studentzone7215 plywood is waterproof and we'll coated with primer and paint. No worry of splashes. But need to park it in a dry place
I don't see why not I'm going to make me a set beats plastic for 400 dollars
Dr Jagat
Thank you
Hi, can you please tell contact details, if we want to order? I live in same place which you live.
Hi ameya. I don sell these its just a hobby. Thanks anyway
But this will ruin in few rains
It's waterproof plywood and painted well. No problems yet
Foolishness, Rainy time spoil .
It is waterproof plywood and painted well. I have a dry garage and I don't ride in rain. For the cost it is worth.
Very nice . Wear a mask
Nice work dude. But your bike looks really bad. :-/
How. I don't get it
The bike itself is a nice bike. But it is too dirty. Some places were even rusted. Oh man, I love bike. It's very hard to see a bike in that condition. :(
