I want to make a wifi connection between an Xbee and a smart phone. Can that be accomplished with only these two devices with some of the Xbee versions?
+x0rify Xbee will only connect to each other, give me some more detail of what do you want to communicate between the phone and the Xbee. may be bluetooth can be an easier solution.

If I use Xbee 900 HP as transmitter (let say it transmits to a range of ~5mile) and the receiver (Xbee pro S2) is about ~5 mile away from transmitter, then would the receiver get the transmitted data?

I still dont get why is it called wireless connection while the xbees are connected to a pc, pls someone explains...
It still shows my com port is Arduino Uno instead of the USB Serial Port and then the xbee cant be found

Yes, Make sure that they share the same ID and they will.
You sure they will? Cause cbee pro s2 works on 2.4Gh whereas xbee900hp works on 900Mh?
Oh my bad! thought the 900HP operates at 2.4GHz. You can interface different Xbee models as long as they share the same frequency.
