- Matt and Bryce are out on a kayak duck hunt. They open up an ice hole with hopes of ducks decoying in close. The ice and ducks didn't quite cooperate early on, but eventually the birds started working. It was a good day of hunting with some tough shots and good laughs culminating in a two man limit. Hard to beat ducks and ice holes!

These hunts are fantastic. Shooting and calling are great... that hide is very nice. I'm just not able to stand like that but certainly great hunt and video... never seen anything but quality at all levels...Thanks Matt

I love hunting over open holes in the ice.
I have to ask this: why...since wind didn't seem to be a factor in this hunt...did you set up facing the morning sun?????? Was that deliberate, and if so, what would be the reason? ( I can't think of a reason you would intentionally do that.....)
What little wind was forecast was to be at our backs. That was also the best spot for a hide. Any other spot in the area and the blind would've stuck out more.
Last season, I had a lot of 2 shot ducks. Imo, that’s better then an empty gun and the duck flys off. Which is rougher.

Any reason you don't use a jerk rig or some sort of motion decoy in such conditions?
Submerged vegetation and refreezing water make using a jerk rig difficult.
need a jerk rig to keep small holes like that open without walking out there and busting ice!!
Wouldn't have worked with all the vegetation and freezing temps
