Another son, after the end of the war in Dagestan, moved to Turkey and became the head of the Dagestan regiment in Turkey. Truly, this is a legendary person. May Allah forgive his sins.
just one thing. Shamil's son didn't betray him. he was handed over to the Russians when he was a kid as part of a hostage negotiation and became a general in the Russian military. I just watched a movie about him called Amanat/The Hostage which is free on youtube rn and I highly recommend
I am no fan of Islam, but I respect Moslems for their determination against invaders. Like the way the Afghans fought USSR. I am a Slav (like the Russians) and coming from a Christian Orthodox background (again, like the Russians), but I am on the side of people like Sheikh Shamil and all the other Moslems who fought the Russians. I hope to see Chechnia and the other Moslems countries that are within the Russian Federation independent one day.

The Russians knew that if they killed or abused Sheikh Shamil, it would have only sparked another expensive war of attrition for them. This is also another reason that the Russians are still forced to allow Dagestanis and Chechens to practice their own religion. This includes the Soviet period when Atheism was enforced throughout the rest of the USSR.
Where you got it wrong is that he was kicked out of Dagestan and the Chechens took him in. Chechens were already fighting Russians.
