If one wanted to better understand the modal approach to playing, writing, and arranging music, listening to Kind of Blue by Miles Davis and ALL of the music of Abigail Washburn would be a really great start. Her sense of modality is sophisticated, advanced, and highly original.

In America you have a history of being able to express yourself hence allowing a diversity of ideas in art & music which has flourished over the years.
